Not enough funds for the fall

Just found out that I won’t have enough money to stay for the fall semester. I work full time, get the max aid from fafsa(supposed to get pelicans promise and the geaux grant but they won’t give it to me) but it’s still not enough. Already tried getting private loans for it they said me and my mother don’t make enough so at this point what are my options because I’m coming up a few thousand short.

what are classes that are known to be weed out classes?

I’m going on the premed track so I want to be wary of classes that might kill my gpa. I’ve heard calc II can be difficult. what other ones are there?

(I’m doing biological engineering so there will be some stem classes as well)

How Much Is Your Rent?

Long story short, my roommate and I have not yet signed a lease for next schoolyear. As we've continued searching for a place to live, I can't help but notice that housing costs have increased. I currently pay $720 a month, but it looks as if most places now are at minimum $850 a month.

Out of curiousity, how much are y'all paying for rent per person?

(Incoming Graduate Student) General Questions About Where to Live in Baton Rouge and Campus Life Inquiries

Hey, I'm a new graduate student (got accepted a few weeks ago), and I've started the ever-so-fun hunt for a place to live.

I'd like to hear from anyone about where they have enjoyed living in Baton Rouge, on and off campus, how much it costs, and where they felt most comfortable. I'll most likely be living off campus, and I believe I am willing to live with a roommate or two if it means lowering costs. Any and all information helps!

As for questions:

  • What's the craziest thing you've had to deal with living in Baton Rouge/at LSU? Is it craziness that only Baton Rouge/LSU could offer?
  • If you are a graduate student, what's the living situation been like? I've been living with my parents all my college life (cause i lived close to my undergrad) and would love to hear from people who are in the same boat, but if not, that's fine.
  • How is living close by to campus compared to living far away? I just saw a recent thread that the rent increases the farther out you go, but is the commute another downside?
  • What's the most effective way to find a roommate? My parents suggested living on campus my first semester or year, then finding someone willing to be my roommate, and living with them for however long. If this question sounds naive, it's cause I am lol.

Anyways, I hope these questions engaged you. By the way, if you aren't comfortable sharing any particular information, feel free to DM. Anecdotal stories are better than going in blind. I'll hopefully try to visit the city over this summer before I officially commit anywhere.

Enjoy y'all's summer!

Graduate Student Academic Probation.

If anyone here is a grad student with knowledge on this topic, please feel free to share… I had above a 3.0 cumulative heading into spring semester. However, after spring semester, I dropped to a 2.99 cumulative gpa exactly. Does anyone know how academic probation works with a graduate research assistantship? Am I doomed or is there still hop?

Hello, I (21F) am moving to Baton Rouge to attend LSU. I heard of Royal Palm Apartments on Zillow, but can't really find out much about it online. It is a good price, so I am wondering if it is too good to be true or if I found a hidden treasure. So, if anyone has/does live there, can you answer these questions please:

  1. Is it in a safe area?
  2. Do the gates and cameras work?
  3. Are there any infestations?
  4. How is the management?
  5. How is maintenance?
  6. How bad is the commute to LSU?
  7. How is the neighborhood and community?

Nobody reaching out to be roommates

I’m an incoming freshman and will be in business residential housing and nobody has reached out to be roommates! The deadline to choose is May 10th and it seems like nobody is talking and I totally feel like I’m doing something wrong- was I maybe too honest in my Roomate profile? Seems like everyone is saying that they’re “chill, clean, and go with the flow!”, but there’s no way that’s true. Is it hopeless? Am I going to have to go the blind route?
I’m also super nervous because I was never really the type to have a bunch of female friends, though I always tried real hard. Hoping that will turn around but this isn’t making me feel very hopeful

Hey guys, I'm an International Student from Brazil, and I will be traveling to Baton Rouge, to live there for one year and attend to a Law LLM at LSU.

I`ll be going all by myself, and I dont know anyone in the U.S, so I'm a bit afraid of how International Students are treated and all this stuff.

Do you guys have experiences with International Students to share and how is LSU about that? I hope to have a great time there...
