The world’s first modern fingerprint system was developed in Bengal

Before fingerprints were used worldwide for criminal identification, a British officer named Sir Edward Henry developed the classification system in colonial Bengal with the help of two Indian Bengali mathematicians Azizul Haque and Hem Chandra Bose.
Their work from Kolkata became the foundation of fingerprint identification used by police forces across the world, including Scotland Yard and the FBI.
So technically, one of the biggest breakthroughs in modern forensic science was born in Bengal.
Not many textbooks mention the Bengali minds behind it.
“চিত্ত যেথা ভয়শূন্য” — Bengal has always left fingerprints on history.
