Just finished watching the pilot, and I’m struggling to empathise with Hwang Dong-man. I like him, he's interesting and funny, I understand that he’s anxious and stuck, and I want to root for him, but the way he externalises that frustration makes it difficult. Instead of processing his failures, he projects them onto the people around him by criticising, suffocating, and disrupting their peace.

He’s also not unaware cuz he’s an adult who can see that he's ruining everyone's good time by being such a pain, but continues anyway. The constant complaining and negativity become exhausting, especially when everyone is an adult dealing with their own struggles.

What bothers me most is the hypocrisy. He’s quick to judge his friends’ work and rarely celebrates their wins, yet he reacts defensively when criticism is directed at him, just like how he exploded at Choi Dong-Hyeon. What more does he expect his friends to do other than help him through? Is he expecting them to handle him whining all the time?

There are moments where he feels grounded and sincere in his conversations with Byeon Eun-a. Overall, I don’t dislike him for struggling, but how he chooses to handle that struggle.

I just want to know what sort of growth one should expect from him to root for such a character throughout the show... Is he on his way to realise how insufferable he was while trying to work on his career and personality, or will everyone magically start respecting him without him reflecting on his words?

Which Drama is it according to you?

For me its Lovely Runner, don’t understand why past me dropped it. Now I’m realising that I might have done the same to Her Private Life so I might revisit that sooner rather that later.

What was your first kdrama that got you addicted

The first kdrama I ever watched was Heartstrings, and funny it was dubbed, so I never knew what the actual actors sounded like until I saw bts vids for them on yt.

Sometimes I go back now and watch an ep or two just for the nostalgia. But it made me wonder, what other old kdramas have you watched? And what was your first?

A good day to be a dog, underrated?

I watched this drama when it was airing and surprisingly I don’t remember any hype around it at the time. Not sure why.

Though I thought Cha Eun-Woo was really good in it and I loved Gyu-Young as well, she did a nice job (the previous time i saw her was in It’s Okay Not To Be Okay). But I ofc -as usual- fell for the bad guy (Lee Hyun-Woo character) 😭.

What are your thoughts about it? Why do you think it didn’t have any hype around it? And what other kdramas do you think are underrated as well?

I just cannot remember where this actor is from and cannot find him anywhere. Not sure if he resembles someone or if he’s an actor in a kdrama ive seen. Any ideas???

so i took a break from kdramas after 2022 because of college and i finally came around to watch reply 1988 which i thoroughly loved, but i realised how differently dramas are marketed than western series. i have a habit of searching for actors and where else they've worked, but with kdramas it feels like they want you to feel like the actors only exist in that particular dimension in your brain and no where else but with western series, you are fully aware of how it is all an act and it doesn't exist beyond that series, and how these actors have a different life too. but with kdramas, its like their character has stopped in time and they are all still close knit and how they are all such close friends with no malicious intent towards each other ever (reply 1988 is also showcased in a similar way where they wish no harm upon any other character of the drama). even watching the reunion eps of reply 1988, idk how they make it so natural, and as a psychology student its hella impressive, but they make it seem like 10 years have passed but the characters are still waiting for you in their doorstep, looking for you to stumble upon them. these damn korean series never fail to impress me. no wonder why i was hooked to them in my teenage years, because i thought i was a part of them, they understood me, how they were waiting for me to discover them.

in the reunion eps, i notice how every actor had outgrown, but they were sorta forced to get into the same nature again as their character was in the series, how they were together in that drama, like we all know how it was acting, but they make it seem how they're all still close knit, which they might be, you never know, but i could feel like the awkwardness in some parts.

this is just something bizarre i notice haha, still very very interesting tho. i gotta write a paper about this. also, recommendations are welcomeee. i love slice of life dramas!!

i’m watching boys over flowers the K drama series and I’m on like episode four and am I the only one that thought the show took a dark turn when they framed her as a “slut” for sleeping with another guy but I find it crazy because she’s been drugged and what he’s doing is considered sexual harassment because he took off her clothes to make it seem like they were intimate even if they didn’t actually get intimate is this not crazy like I know this is 2009 and it was a different time but I’m watching this a little angry for the main character. I literally would’ve ran to the police like she woke up, not knowing what happened at all. That’s crazy.

yumi cells 3( not enough episodes)

After watching Seasons 1 and 2 of Yumi's Cells, I honestly felt like 8 episodes for Season 3 just wasn’t enough. Personally, I think it should’ve had the same number of episodes as the first two seasons. For some reason, everything felt rushed, like we were just breezing through the story too quickly compared to the pacing of the earlier seasons.

We also barely got any of the cute moments that made the first two seasons so enjoyable. I really wanted to see more of their sweet, lovey-dovey relationship. And honestly, even the final episode still had problems that made the ending feel a little unsatisfying. Overall though, i'm glad we got to see yumi happy and married to someone she really loves.

Yumi cells have definitely been an enjoyable watch and I will miss the cells( my favorite one is the love and lust cell ) and I definitely rate it a 8.9/10.

What do you guys think of how season 3 ended? Did you guys enjoy watching yumi cells as well?

Perfect Crown

Idk why but i keep seeing people not like Perfect Crown as much. I was so hesitant to start it given how many post I had seen of people saying it was pretty disappointing?

Watched till ep 4 and I ABSOLUTELY love it, havent been bored at all.

- The acting is SOOOO good, replayed so many scenes coz i was amazed with their micro expressions.

- The visuals CRAZYYYYYYY.

- The chemistry is top tier

- i absolutely love the plot although its a lil hectic for me coz of modern king theme. also they be using so many difficult terms, have to google words here nd there.

Either way 10/10 till now. i m jst curious why people dont like it as much, maybe the future eps r boring?? or people r jst hating coz IU nd byeon wooseok r the leads?

Medical Kdrama Recommendation

Hey so i just finished The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call and I’m looking for another K-drama with the same vibe. I was enjoying it so much and really hoped that it was a longer series.

I’m looking for:

\- Intense and realistic medical scenes

\- High-stakes emergencies and surgeries

\- A good amount of comedy to balance out the serious moments

\- Minimal romance (or romance that stays in the background and doesn’t become the main focus)

\- Hopefully, long episodes or more episodes

Basically, I want something that keeps me on the edge of my seat but still makes me laugh.

I did try to google similar kdramas like it, but I would much prefer recommendations from people who’ve actually watched the drama themselves and not just titles from generic Google lists, so I turned to this subreddit. Any recommendations?

Where are the gems at?

I started watching K-dramas with CLOY in 2019 and there have been so many amazing shows. Good K-dramas were the #1 reason we went back to Netflix after a long hiatus from that service.

But...there are so many bad ones. I start a show and they remind me of telenovelas. Then there's stuff like "Boyfriend on demand" - I forced myself to watch almost 9 episodes, but the main characters have the chemistry of a stone and a stick.

So many shows are just bereft of ideas. They feel mass produced and absolutely not genuine. Lots of slow walks and clichés like snow and falling cherry flowers.

So...where are all the good dramas at? Like CLOY, Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung, Hometown Cha Cha Cha and all that?

Video is from the official Studio Dragon. It's lowkey almost a week old but we don't talk about that.

Azure Spring: The Drama I Didn't Know I Was Looking For.

The first episode of Azure Spring dropped today on Kocowa while initially it wasn't on my radar a short reel picqued my interest. Rambling thoughts below, very light spoilers:

My watchlist is full of kdrama rom-coms and comedies, what's been missing for awhile is something grounded. Azure Spring seems to promise a touch of realism and a slice of life story to savor amidst the other dramas, all sleekly produced with stunning visuals, preposterous situations, and situational humor.

Azure Spring is visually captivating in a different way though, it's the location that pulls you in with long lingering shots the landscape. Set on an island off of Gyeongsangnam-do, the landscape is breathtaking; beautiful azure blue rippling water, distant hazy mountains, and a light blue sky.

The first episode hints at two people running away from their past; for An Na it's unrealized dreams which leadsto her homecoming of sorts, moving back to the small seaside town where she grew up in the home of her haenyeo (female diver) grandmother. For Deok Hyeon you feel tragedy is lurking behind his stoic demeanor and the dog tag with a bullet hole that he wears around his neck, prominently displayed on his tan chest from spending hours in and near the sea. Water connects them.

This is a kdrama that offers a quiet exposed glimpse in Korean life beyond Seoul or the commonplace character tropes. Dramas like My Liberation Notes that goes beyond the sheen of Seoul to the heart of family and endurance in the countryside; like Flowers in the Sand that offers waygookin an opportunity to see a part of Korean heritage that the rest of the world has few opportunities to see and experience.

I'm eager to see where this drama takes us, what we will learn and experience along the way.
