Does Balen have no heart?

A lot of people here feel that balen does not have humanity. He is an authoritarian or a dictator/fascist. As someone who has closely followed him since his mayoral campaign days i have noticed some patterns. In society leniency exists only when both parties are honest. In his early days, he used to give 35 days notice for eveything. The result? People took it lightly and ignored the deadline and when metro reached there after given time, people started crying that they were not informed anyways. Take the case of norvic hospital, they were given 35 days which they ignored and when kmc reached there one of the choudhary son asked for few more days so that they can manage it. KMC fulfilled their request and gave them extension on deadline. The result? They got stay order from court and the illegal norvic structure is not demolished still after nearly four years.

The same thing happened with alpha beta building. Balen gave ample time during his mayoral tenure for illegal squatters, the result was they organized and pelted kmc officers with stones, and lethal weapons.

Time and time again, when kmc gave leniency for illegal stuffs, nepali people took that as weakness, exploited it, politicized it.

Now, why should balen be lenient on rule of law when the society itself is not honest? My answer, he should not be! However sour it may taste, nepal needs this medicine. Nepal needs to endure this if it yearns for equal society ruled by law.

Natra last ma, illegal means bata property jodeko haru sadhai dhani bata jhan dherai dhani hudai janchhan ani lawful citizen haru jaile disadvantage ma hunchhan. Ani one day every lawful citizen will start to ask a simple question, tyaso bhaye hamile kanun kina follow garne?

If you reached till here, congratulations!!! 😅✌️

Finally, happy birthday to or PM Balen.

What is this guessing journalism by onlinekhabar?

They not only guessed that government will bring ordinance but also guessed what exactly what ordinance too. Their exact word was:

“सोमबार दिउँसो बस्ने मन्त्रिपरिषद् बैठकमा अध्यादेश ल्याउने तयारी भएको स्रोतले अनलाइनखबरलाई जानकारी दिएको छ ।”

Who exactly is this `स्रोत` , no one knows.

They even had time to go to congress and published their reaction too.

https://www.onlinekhabar.com/2026/04/1919436/bringing-an-ordinance-by-bypassing-parliament-is-not-a-dignified-move-congress

It was found to be wrong because government only made 3 decision today and none was ordinance.

And as usual, there will be no retraction from their side, गल्ति भएको भनेर सच्याउने कुरा पनि छैन।

What kind of journalism is this, no retraction, no solid source, just guesswork and fake news peddling to make the headlines, and for rage bait?

Limbus Did Not Rule Kathmandu Valley: The Migration from Northern Burma, Yunnan, and Lan Na

The history of the Eastern Himalayas has long been obscured by a persistent myth—the claim that the Limbu people are the direct, unbroken descendants of the ancient Kirati kings who ruled the Kathmandu Valley thousands of years ago. This narrative, largely constructed by 19th and 20th-century intellectuals in Darjeeling to secure political and indigenous status, purposefully ignores a mountain of linguistic, cultural, and genetic evidence. The reality is far more dynamic: the Limbus are not the "lost kings of Kathmandu," but are the descendants of a sophisticated, multi-ethnic exodus of displaced elites and tribes from Northern Burma, Yunnan (Mong Mao), and the Lan Na kingdom of Northern Thailand.

The Fallacy of the Kathmandu Origin

The attempt to link the Limbus to the Kathmandu Valley’s ancient Kirat period (c. 800 BC – 300 AD) relies on the intentional conflation of the broad term "Kirat" with the specific ethnic identity of the Limbu. While the Kathmandu Valley was indeed ruled by people labeled as Kirats, the administrative structure, language, and material culture of that era bear no resemblance to the specific traditions of Limbu or Rai Tribe.

The Limbu political system of the Ten Kings (Das Limbu) and their fortified capitals, known as Yioks, does not appear in the archeological or historical record of Central Nepal. Instead, these structures are carbon copies of the Wiang (fortified cities) and Muang (city-states) found in the Tai-Shan world of Southeast Asia.

The Mong Mao and Northern Burma Connection

The true ancestral heartland of the Limbu people lies in the river valleys of the East—specifically the Nam Mao (Shweli River) and the Chindwin and Salween basins. The historical "Kingdom of Pong" (Mogaung) and the Mong Mao empire are the actual birthplaces of the Limbu ruling lineages.

Names like Pongbohang, Ubahang, and Mabohang—frequently cited in Limbu oral traditions—are not Himalayan names; they are phonetic evolutions of the Tai-Shan and Kachin elite titles. The "migration from the East" mentioned in the Mundhum (oral scripture) was not a spiritual journey but a literal refugee trek. As the Bamar (Burmese) and Jingpo (Kachin) expansion crushed the Tai-Shan states in the 16th through 17th centuries, these aristocratic "Sawbwas" (Subbas) led their people westward into the Himalayas to escape total annihilation.

Actual Map of Mongmaorong in Yunnan Burma border

The Lanna and Sipsongpanna Footprint

Perhaps the most striking evidence of this Southeast Asian origin is the linguistic footprint of the Lan Na kingdom (modern-day Northern Thailand). The name of the royal lineage Mung Tai Chi Emay Hang is a literal preservation of "Muang Tai Chiang Mai"—the "Tai State of Chiang Mai." The establishment of a "regal residence" at Phakphok in Ilam mirrors the highland geography of Doi Pha Hom Pok in Chiang Mai.

https://preview.redd.it/35an1c1gyqxg1.png?width=1156&format=png&auto=webp&s=4cf3ae3698b74e4a5ec6914a4b932163989a453e

These migrants were not a singular "tribe" but a complex confederation. The ruling Tai-Shan elites brought with them various minority groups, such as the Palaung (Papo), Akha, Lisu, and Rawang (Kuitz). Over centuries in the isolation of the Eastern Himalayan ridges, this diverse group of Southeast Asian refugees merged with the local "Black Adivasi" substrate to form the modern Limbu identity.

Reclaiming the True History

The "Darjeeling Narrative" served a purpose in its time—providing a shield of "indigeneity" against the Gorkhali state—but it did so at the cost of the truth. By claiming to be the ancient rulers of Kathmandu, the Limbus were forced to disown their prestigious history as the survivors of the great Southeast Asian empires.

The Limbus did not rule the Kathmandu Valley. They were the architects of a secondary kingdom in the East, built by survivors who brought the irrigation techniques, the silk-weaving traditions, the silver-work, and the sophisticated administrative codes of Mong Mao and Lan Na to the mountains of Nepal. To acknowledge this is not to weaken the Limbu claim to their land, but to finally honor the resilience of their true ancestors: the kings and tribes of the golden valleys of the East.

Limbus have exploited the Indian benefit system for uplifting ancient black adivasi people

The sociopolitical landscape of the Eastern Himalayas is built upon layers of migration, some preserved in history and others buried for political convenience. Among the most complex and least discussed transformations is the systematic erasure of the Southeast Asian origins of the Limbu people. For decades, the dominant narrative has suggested an ancient, unbroken presence in the Himalayas. However, a deeper analysis reveals a calculated effort to suppress a vibrant history rooted in Northern Burma, Northern Thailand, and Sipsongpanna. By rebranding themselves as indigenous "Kirat" tribes, the Limbu elite have effectively hijacked the identity of the ancient "Black Adivasi" people to exploit the Indian government’s affirmative action and benefit systems.

The Ancient "Black Adivasi" and the Southeast Asian Link

The true indigenous inhabitants of the Eastern Himalayan foothills were ancient Austroasiatic-speaking "Black Adivasi" groups. These populations shared deep genetic and cultural connections with the prehistoric inhabitants of Southern China and Southeast Asia. Today, these ancient lineages are virtually extinct in Southeast Asia, surviving only in fragmented tribes like the Palaung , Wa, or Lawa.

https://preview.redd.it/ch2melswjjxg1.png?width=609&format=png&auto=webp&s=5848c2813f5c8053d6a92d1c799b3aaa5a72bd37

In India, the government designed reservation and benefit systems specifically to uplift these vulnerable, ancient populations who faced millennia of marginalization. However, the Limbu people—whose core political and linguistic structure actually arrived much later—utilized their shared phenotypic traits to "merge" into this Adivasi category. By claiming to be the primordial "Kirant" of the soil, they successfully diverted resources intended for the genuine, ancient substrate of the region.

The Erasure of the Tai-Shan and Sipsongpanna Legacy

The primary reason for this identity theft is a deep-seated, misplaced sense of shame regarding their actual origins. The ancestors of the Limbus were not local forest-dwellers; they were the displaced aristocracy and subjects of the Mong Mao and Sipsongpanna kingdoms. They were part of a sophisticated Tai-Shan political world.

https://preview.redd.it/dsyg9t29kjxg1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=e6fc0b206d72a72e4ae58f2bb9d00cb0c04f73a1

The migration into Nepal occurred in distinct waves, often triggered by violent displacements in the East. One significant wave was driven by the invasion of the Tunguoo (Bamar) and later on the Jingpo (Kachin) people, who began pushing into Tai-ruled territories, causing massive upheaval. Rather than taking pride in their history as resilient survivors of the Great Southeast Asian Collapse, Limbu intellectuals—particularly those influenced by the 20th-century Darjeeling school of thought—buried these roots. They feared that being labeled as "migrants" from Northern Thailand or Burma would jeopardize their claim to the land and the accompanying government benefits.

https://preview.redd.it/b8j7zhwgkjxg1.png?width=1202&format=png&auto=webp&s=58a7a94cc95b1aa4f4bbbd3b584f93dc44974cda

The Kipat System: Tai Sawbwas in the Himalayas

When these Mong Mao Tai elites and their accompanying minority tribes—the Akha, Lisu, Rawang (Kuitz), and Palaung (Papo)—finally arrived in the Himalayas, they did not arrive as "primitives." They arrived as an organized military and administrative class.

Historical records indicate that the Sen Kings of the lowlands and later the Shah Kings recognized this organizational capacity. They granted Kipat land—a form of communal land tenure—as a strategic political move. The term Limbuwan was not an ancient ethnic designation but the name given to these Kipat lands where Tai Sawbwas (known locally as Subbas) would continue their traditional role of governing the "lesser" tribes (the true Adivasis) while cooperating with the central Nepalese monarchs.

The High Cost of Historical Theft

By trading their royal Tai-Shan and diverse Southeast Asian history for the "Scheduled Tribe" benefits of India, the Limbu elite have committed a double tragedy. They have participated in the economic marginalization of the ancient Adivasi people whose identity they wear, and they have culturally impoverished their own children by denying them their true ancestry. To restore the "fabric of the nation," it is essential to dismantle the Darjeeling-made myths and acknowledge that Limbuwan was a byproduct of the great Southeast Asian migrations, led by kings of the East who were far more sophisticated than the "tribal" label suggests.

Stunt garera desh banchha? Bandaina!!!

Stunt: Ban student politics
Real work: If you want to depoliticize institutions, make universities institutionally independent and ensure there is no political interference. Why is the Prime Minister still the chancellor of universities?

Stunt: 12-hour ultimatum to demolish buildings based on the maapdanda drafted 20 years ago for buildings made 30 yrs ago.
Real work: Give fair compensation and proper relocation time especially for tenants who had no role in any of it.

Stunt: Home Minister stepping out of a car to instruct traffic police
Real work: Decentralize authority. Build institutions that function without needing performative intervention.

Stunt: Catching low-level officers taking bribes
Real work: Reform and truly empower anti-corruption bodies like the CIAA so they can investigate anyone, including the Prime Minister.

Stunt: Bulldozers in sukumbasi settlements
Real work: Digitize land records (maalpot), that way it is easier to seperate fake and real sukumbasis, and manage the real ones get rid of the fake ones

Stunt: PM removing the Home Minister
Real work: Stop concentrating power. One person holding 5o different roles across universities and constitutional bodies weakens governance. Decentralize!!

Stunt: Arresting politicians and businessmen for headlines
Real work: Due diligence, strong investigations, and awareness of economic and social consequences. Poorly handled high-profile arrests cause instability and hurt investment. Share dubne nepali kai ho, road maa aaune nepali nai ho.

Power theatrics create headlines, not systems. They are getting dopamine hits and feeling powerful, and the politically illiterate Nepali masses are getting brainwashed. When governance is about clout chasing and headlines, the public gets short-term satisfaction, but long-term damage.

Stunt is mutually exclusive to real development.

What do Rai, Limbus want from Newars?

Despite having no historical or ancestral relationship with the Newar community, there is a growing trend of Limbus and Rais pushing narratives that they are "long-lost brothers" of the Newars. This claim is increasingly bizarre when you look at the actual ethno-history and migration paths of these groups.

The historical reality points toward the east—specifically the Tai-ruled regions of Northern Burma, Northern Thailand, and Sipsongpanna. The ancestors of these groups lived within the administrative and cultural orbits of Tai-Shan kingdoms like Mong Mao, Lan Na, and the Kingdom of Pong.

The Sawbwa(Shouba) royalty of Northern Burma

It is fascinating—and a bit concerning—to see these groups seemingly willing to erase their own rich origins to fit into a modern Himalayan narrative. By claiming a "brotherhood" with Newars, they effectively distance themselves from their actual roots as:

  • Tai, Akha, Lahu, Lisu, Rawang, and Palaung populations.
  • Subjects of the Subopha and Tai Sawbwas in the Shweli River basin (Nam Mao/Mongmaorong).
  • Inhabitants of Mong Kwang and other Tai principalities.

Limbus oral and written history mentions Kingdom of Pong and city named Mongmaorong and Nammavong of Burma

Why is there such a strong push to abandon the history of the Kingdom of Pong or the migrations from Sipsongpanna in favor of a fabricated connection to the Kathmandu Valley? Is this an attempt to gain political leverage, or is it a genuine identity crisis where the real history of migration from the Burmese borderlands is being traded for a more "convenient" local story?

https://preview.redd.it/x2jn9mum69xg1.png?width=1141&format=png&auto=webp&s=49f2ad801ff5eb8944db8317850052ccb6c8bdf7

It's time to stop the propaganda and start acknowledging the actual migration routes and the Tai-Shan influence that shaped these groups before they ever reached the Himalayas.
