Really?

I'm tired of Sam fumbling wins. This time he literally had it. He had all the luck and everything, but it's like his brain spills every time after the 5th episode. Bad decision after bad decision.

Well played team badam.

This video just pissed me off a lot..

Mike Downie Appreciation Post

Best train footage we ever got. His camera work is just amazing!

Nailed the challenges like a seasoned player, yes including the last one. His rocks picks were amazing.

He is the perfect partner for Sam. He can take a lot of the filming duties, has a huge positive enthusiasm, and can help with strategy.

He also overall fitted very well, he loves trains, loves traveling and was always excited with the places they traveled to, he was also “just right” competitive, and seemed like someone that had been on the show many times before.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to Mike for an amazing season, and hope he is invited again in the future!

Sam Denby trying to replace The Snack Zone with Choo Choo Chew is a metaphor for how businesses are trying to replace their workers with AI

The Snack Zone is a beloved snack show, created by two employees of a company named Ben Doyle and Adam Chase. It's full of love, joy, and whimsy.

Choo Choo Chew is a plagiarised version that was revealed to have been created with Chatgpt in a layover podcast epsiode for S6.

Sam Denby represents corrupt business owners. He does not care for his employee's creations, and believes AI can do a much better job than them.

Ben and Adam represent the average worker struggling to fight back against AI. They created the original snack show on jet lag, however now they have to fight to ensure it isn't replaced by Choo Choo Chew.

Despite the corrupt business owner trying to replace their innocent employees creation with AI, it will never happen. This symbolises how there is hope, and how together we can stop the rise of AI if we refuse to give in and use it.

I believe this is a perfectly crafted metaphor and shows how deep Jet Lag is a show.

(this is a shitpost, don't take this seriously)

This is the third season that has ended terribly because of Sam’s terrible decision making.

I am team Sam since season 1. But it frustrates me so much when he gets an idea and goes full steam ahead instead of taking a minute to think it over properly.

Season 17 Outtakes are up on Nebula

The outtakes are up! It's always fun to see what's happening in the background. I am always struck by how much dead time there really is between the action. They edit the show to be so tight, so you don't always appreciate just how much transit time there is. It must be really tough to go go go then sit for hours then go go go!

Tl;dr of Season 17

(On an honest note though, I really enjoyed the season production- and for 2/3 also gameplay-wise. The challenges were great, Taiwan is a super interesting board and Downie is a great guest! Hope he can return some time in the future. Glad for Team Badam that they snatched it back, but obviously baffling how the Night Herons threw this.)

(S17) I don’t get it. I am so confused that I feel like I HAVE to buy the Layover for Taiwan.

(Watched the finale on my boyfriends laptop and he does not have Layover)

Absolutely peak performance from both of them in the first half of the season. Love Mike, love Sam, team Sike I was rooting for you since day 1 and I saw you were about to win based on the map, which granted them such a huge advantage I almost thought they had the game in the bag.

Then Episode 7 happened. The entire time I just could NOT understand what Sike is doing. Badam made a bad decision trying to break into Taipei through Keelung: they had to retreat all the way down south and effectively ceded a whole game day to Sike. So with the near perfect board, with Badam *out of the game* for nearly a whole day, what did Sike do to catch up on the station count?

Nothing. They were so scared that Badam were going up to Taipei that they startef “fortifying” on the local routes, which is pointless because that does NOT deter them from taking the express high speed train.

From here I was skeptical.

Then they decided to do a waiting game with Badam before proceeding with the game. Okay - I can see how Sike perceived their position as dominant, as they were indeed closer to getting to the 90 chip and 50 chip challenges before flipping up the east coast. So they could *afford* to wait - but that does not mean they *should*. This got me confused like Badam at the Dragon & Tiger Towers.

Then fast forward to Ep 8 they decided to pull a “big brain move” by going bust deep into the east coast line and betting everything on the challenge in Beipu.

I completely lost it. Why? WHY? Practically screaming at the TV, I could not fathom the decision. They had the challenges around them, the timing is right, their strategy would have been sound if they just did the obvious move. But deciding to flip only a few stations and going bust for the variable chip challenge is… I just don’t even know how that is preferable??

Are they rage baiting me into buying the additional Layover? I mean if they were then it’s unfortunately working.

The ending was foreshadowed...

Whether they intended it or not, the colors of each team matched with the Dragon and Tiger graphics featured throughout the series.

As we learned in Ben and Adam's pagoda towers challenge, the dragon was seen as a symbol of good luck and the tiger was a symbol of bad luck.

Ben and Adam's team color was green like the dragon, while Sam and Mike were orange like the tiger (or a weird pig).

Just a beautiful little Easter egg to a fantastic season!

Edit: it wasn't on purpose, but it is a fun serendipity

What's your favourite Jet Lag episode?

I'm currently rewatching Hide and Seek Japan and I was reminded how much I loved the episode where Sam hid at the airport.

Together with the desert power episode from Australia and the Austria episode from Schengen Showdown, those make up my top 3. Admittedly it's been a while since I've watched a few of the seasons.

What are your favourites?
