Two more have popped!

First one: Black is Black
Second: “unknown”

ETA: Thank you u/OpinionatedOcelotYu ! Now Identified as “Slovak Prince”

Both are from Schreiner’s Gardens. I need to look through their web site to see if I can find my “unknown”. Any suggestions?

30 yrs ago I was eyeball deep into iris and breeding. I made a cross with Thornbird (Ive since lost all records so dont know the other parent). Over the yrs Ive made further crosses with that line to the point Im probably 7 or 8 generations down. (see below)

The yellow here (I call Driven) is from that line at least 15 yrs ago, the only 1 I had left. 2 yrs ago a crossed it with another unknown and this mustard with horns just opened this morning! Its a great plant; Looks like 8 or so buds, easily over 36" stalk, 5 fans on a 2 yr old plant.

My Morning Hello

Hello! Just wanted to share the Iris that have bloomed so far. I bought all my rhizomes from an Iris farm 20 something years ago. I had written down all the variant names and have lost them thru time. Happy Mother’s Day!

This beautiful iris showed up in my iris bed - all the others are just light blue. All the iris were gifted from other gardens, so it’s possible it’s just taken this one a couple of years to show up. The photo actually shows two blooms, one behind the other. Does anyone recognize this variety? It’s big and really stunning.

All of these are from Schreiner’s Gardens in Salem OR. They are an easy drive from us and they have a huge viewing garden open this time of year. First one is Dazzle. This one didn’t bloom for me last year and I’m tickled to see her this year. There are three other bloom stalks of her. The next is Better than Butter - such a heavy bloomer last year and this. Happenstance follows - I posted this one earlier - was the first to open and there are more bloom stalks than I can count. Last is a peony that just opened and I couldn’t resist including it (sorry- ok, not really 😉). Next to Better than Butter is Black is Black which will open likely tomorrow. All of these varieties put up at least two buds per stalk - some have three. Each bud is really two - a second bloom follows after the first one fads - have to be very careful dead-heading!

Finally got one with no frost damage! Topped Off (with bonus Silverado that just opened this morning and Red Lion from last night)

Being in easy driving distance of Sutton Iris Garden is a blessing on my garden and a curse on my wallet.

Driving me crazy!

This big royal purple has been in my mother's garden since 1972, the year she got married. This picture is very true to real life color, it has a strong grape scent and is pollen sterile but it does produce seeds when used as a dam rather than a sire. I named it Concordia but I've been trying to find its real name forever, with no luck! The closest I've found is "Royal Canadian" (Edmison, 1959), but that has the wrong scent according to the internet. Anyone have any ideas?

Three more irises have opened

In the last 24 hours or so, two more reblooming irises have opened along with several blue dutch irises.

The latest two to open are Califlora Ozark Rebounder & Eggnog.

Check the comments for IDs on all but one

Tennyson Ridge, Topped Off, Double Shot, Twist of Fate, and one with no ID. If anyone knows what the last is, let me know. It hitched a ride with another rhizome so I have no clue what it is.
