Mohiniyattam - pure chaos turned into comedy

Mohiniyattam - The amount of detail packed into this malayalam movie is crazy

This is just one example, where I had to pause the movie to read the details.

This is how you make a movie relevant for all

ik ik there are already a lot of posts in this sub regarding this movie but i loved it sooo much so i have to post it.

Just watched this movie i'd say this is exactly how you make something work for every age group. It has references from 90s films to Gen Z memes, blended so naturally that none of it feels forced or like it’s desperately trying to stay relevant, unlike some movies that throw in decade old memes trying to attract younger audience.

I wish i could watch this movie in a houseful theater but it was not playing anywhere near me (Delhi)

Movies that saved Malayalam actors' careers

For example, Mammootty was going through a rough phase before New Delhi happened. Same with Jayaram before Veruthe Oru Bharya and Fahadh before Chaappa Kurishu.

What are some other Malayalam movies that completely revived an actor's/actress's career or brought them back into the spotlight after a flop phase?

Damn thats a fricking good movie..

I watched Bharathanatyam the day before yesterday and watched Mohiniyattam today. As a cine lover, I really liked both movies. Even though the second part was much better than the first one, it's very rare for me to have the same level of interest in a sequel. But I thoroughly enjoyed it with my family.

Gosh, Baby Jean absolutely killed the role of Subash. I'm actually surprised that the vazhipokkan star was given such a prominent and fun role. 10/10 to the casting director and the director.

Premam discussion

Did Malar really love George in Premam, or was it more of a deep affection/friendship from her side because he was her student? Is there particular scene made it most obvious to you that she probably had romantic feelings for him?

Vaazha 2 opinion

Why are the girls in Vaazha 2 fair-skinned while the lead boys are dark-skinned? Where is the representation there? It feels like male leads are accepted regardless of their skin tone, but female leads are still expected to be fair.

I appreciated many aspects in Vaazha 2, especially the portrayal of the Muslim community, but when it comes to female representation and colourism, I feel we still have a long way to go.

Thank you for all your opinions. I am a Malayali and I’m not trying to compare Malayalam and Tamil cinema here. Malayalam cinema is known for breaking stereotypes and portraying real people. To be clear, the young women in this film were fabulous and talented and I’m in no way discrediting them. When young men watch these films they often see themselves and feel validated by them — why can’t women have that too? That’s all I’m asking. I’m not saying to cast a dark skinned female as a tick box exercise, but a talented dark skinned female who deserves to be seen and celebrated. Imagine Malayalam cinema doing this and the the kind of appreciation it would receive. That’s all folks !

Did You Ever Find Any Unconvincing Scene or Logical Doubt in Manichitrathazhu?

In my opinion "Manichithrathaahu" remains one of the rare films that feels almost completely convincing even after repeated viewings. The writing, performances, psychological detailing, and the way the mystery unfolds still feel remarkably tight.

Even then, I had one small doubt regarding a particular sequence in Manichitrathazhu.

There is a scene where one of the maids suddenly screams, everyone rushes in confusion to find out what happened, and during that distraction something hits the clock. In that sequence, Ganga (Shobhana) is also shown there. Initially, I felt slightly doubtful about who could have actually thrown or hit it at that exact moment.

Later, while watching YouTube videos that explore hidden details, movie explanations etc. along with reading discussions on forums, I came across an interpretation that during the brief confusion and diverted attention, Ganga herself could have managed it unnoticed. I don’t remember exactly where I first came across that explanation, but afterward it felt logically convincing to me.

So I wanted to ask others here:

Did you ever find any scene, sequence, or small detail in Manichitrathazhu that felt slightly unconvincing, logically doubtful, or open to interpretation — in a movie that is otherwise considered nearly flawless?

Would love to hear different observations and perspectives.
