Question: What platform would you recommend I invest in?
Below I’ve listed out what I have that is relevant to the original question. I am looking for a platform to invest in further and focus training on a single platform. In the past I haven’t done a lot of aftermarket stuff on my handguns, particularly my carry guns. I’ll change out the sights and magazine baseplates and add a light, but not much more. I tried a red dot years ago on a handgun years ago and didn’t like it. I do have them on my rifles though. I am interested in giving them another shot.
I’d like to have something enjoyable to shoot that I can still carry, along with something small that will operate similar to the larger carry gun.
IWI: This would be my preference, but the aftermarket support is garbage. My Jericho is my favorite, but not realistic for conceal carry. I hate the fact that they went with a proprietary mag on the full size Masada. I love shooting it and it has all of the modern features. If they would have stuck with the cz75 mag, I probably would probably be fine with staying with my IWI stuff, despite the shallow aftermarket support.
Glock: Best aftermarket support and I can shoot them fine. My Gen 5 19 sucks because it’s the early model with the half moon cutout. I struggle to shoot fast because it slips in my hand, because I can’t anchor down with my pinky.
Sig: my p365 Xmacro is great. I can shoot it great and it feels good on my hand. Oddly enough it doesn’t conceal as well as it should for me. Plus, I’m not a huge sig fan and I only own 2 sigs.
CZ: I don’t own any CZs and I have only shot a cz75 once or twice, but I absolutely love my Jericho. I love the da/Sa on my Jericho. I know it’s a clone, but I don’t have enough experience to know how similar they feel. Also, my range doesn’t have any CZ rentals. I’ve never heard too much in the way of negativity towards CZ.
For reference I have the following: IWI Jericho F9 IWI Masada IWI Masada Slim Elite IWI Masada Slim Commander Elite Tavon X95 Gen 1 Galil
Glock26 Gen 4 Glock 19 Gen 5
Sig P365 Xmacro non-comp
I know this is a long post, but I would appreciate any recommendations or feedback that you might have.
Galil or Zion-25?
I already have a Zion-15 in 5.56, and am looking to get something in .308. The Galil gen2 16” and Zion-25 18” are only a couple hundred bucks difference in price, and I’m having a difficult time choosing. The 15 is my CQB, so I like the idea of a DMR, or something more for distance, and am thinking I’d like to put a 2-10 or 3-15 scope on it. So, that really leans more toward Zion-25 territory, but the Galil is a Galil! I’m pretty torn. Any input?
Video: Masada Slim Commander + Spectre 9
For those of you curious, here’s what it sounds like at the range with 158grain 9mm.
Also, I know my technique was terrible — I was trying to film while shooting and I had to lean on the mat. 😓
IWI CARMEL 5.56 NATO Rifle w/ Side Folding Adjustable Buttstock - 16\\\
Rainier Arms has the Carmel for $899. Only showing 2 In stock at that price.
Zion 25 is Great! My Carmel is a different story 😳
Zion 25 owner of the 18” .308 version.
Love it, although it took about 200-300 rounds to loosen it up. It used to gouge case shoulders upon ejection and was very difficult to use the charging handle to eject a round when clearing the gun.
That’s all solved and it groups great.
My Carmel is now my problem child. Before, it worked great. Had about 1,000 rounds through it. No issues across several brands of ammo. It worked flawlessly.
Then I found out that its serial number is in the range for a recall. I sent it in, IWI worked on it and returned it.
Today, I loaded 60 rounds of Hornady Frontier 55 grain 5.56.
I had over a dozen failures to fire (some were light primer strikes but other looked like the primers weren’t touched by the firing pin) and about 15 primers that were torn open after firing.
After each failure to fire, I couldn’t pull the charging handle to eject the round.I had to slam the charging handle against the edge of the stand to eject the unfired round.
What happened when my gun was at IWI???
Masada Slim Commander with Spectre 9 and TLR-7 HL-X
Just finished this Masada Slim build. Excited to see how she shoots.
Masada slim vs Shield plus?
Hey guys, just interested in ppls thoughts on the Shield plus. I actually already own a masada slim, and it's my favorite ccw. My only concern: I had the striker break on me with fewer than 500 rounds through it and not much dry firing (because I don’t practice much lol). IWI fixed it immediately, but I guess it's still something I’m having a hard time getting over.
Thanks a lot!
Finally had the time to put the Commander frame on my IWI Masada Slim Elite.
Biiiig shout out to u/LethalNumbers and Pro2 Customs for their excellent customer services, and quick communication.
New Gun & Holster Day - Muddy River Tactical
I was looking for a new EDC and stumbled across the Masada Slim Elite - also my first IWI. In the last 3 weeks I've put over 3,000 rounds of every type of ammo you can imagine and haven't had a single hiccup. It's a tack driver, and the muzzle flip is far less than I'd expect from something this size. Really glad to have discovered this pistol!
The larger point of this post is to mention the new holster. There aren't many options for the Masada Slim, but after reading a lot of Reddit posts, I settled on the Muddy River Tactical (MRT) kydex. I emailed MRT on a Fri evening at 9:53pm and Kevin responded an hour later at 11:14pm, answering every question I had. I don't expect that kind of response (late on a Friday night), but wow! We exchanged a few emails and I was beyond impressed with the service I received. I rarely go out of my way to name drop someone's company (since I'm not getting any kickback or incentive), but my experience with MRT has been so good that I felt obligated - I hope Kevin gets all the business he can handle. The fit and finish on the holster is excellent and the comfort is impeccable. I highly recommend MRT for the Masada Slim.
Amazing Training Days w/Masada Slim Commander
Amazing Training Days with Masada Slim
Just had two days up at Sig Academy and opted to run my Masada Slim Commander hard. Barricades, movement, steel plates. Awesome training. Humbling and affirming.
Over 700 rounds in 2 days. Zero malfunctions. Ran several different Masada and CZ75 mags. She was an absolute champ, 100% reliable, fast, accurate. When I did my job, clean plate runs.
Mine is fully kitted ... magwell, optic, threaded barrel, comp. Best striker I've ever run, and it's not even close. Splits are sub-.2, all 6-inch circle at 7y minimum. Probably picking up a bare-bones Slim Elite as my EDC to pair with the Commander as my duty gun.
And yes, my paint job shows a lot of wear. Good. She worked hard this week!!
