Zion 25 is Great! My Carmel is a different story 😳

Zion 25 owner of the 18” .308 version.

Love it, although it took about 200-300 rounds to loosen it up. It used to gouge case shoulders upon ejection and was very difficult to use the charging handle to eject a round when clearing the gun.

That’s all solved and it groups great.

My Carmel is now my problem child. Before, it worked great. Had about 1,000 rounds through it. No issues across several brands of ammo. It worked flawlessly.

Then I found out that its serial number is in the range for a recall. I sent it in, IWI worked on it and returned it.

Today, I loaded 60 rounds of Hornady Frontier 55 grain 5.56.

I had over a dozen failures to fire (some were light primer strikes but other looked like the primers weren’t touched by the firing pin) and about 15 primers that were torn open after firing.

After each failure to fire, I couldn’t pull the charging handle to eject the round.I had to slam the charging handle against the edge of the stand to eject the unfired round.

What happened when my gun was at IWI???

Has anyone adjusted the Zion-25 gas block?

Has anyone adjusted the Zion-25 gas block? This is my first AR-style .308 rifle and I was thinking about decreasing the flow of gas (I think it is a little over-gassed as the cases eject forward a bit). (My other posts about my Zion-25 are under my old Reddit name u/Some-Young-9085)

What are factors I should consider when doing this? I understand that if I under-gas it, the BCG won't travel enough to pick up the next round. But what else is there to consider?

  1. Would there be a change in POI?
  2. Would the groups open up?
  3. Mechanically, are there any considerations?
