Most overrated Houston Restaurants in 2026 so far
1). Corkscrew BBQ
Is Corkscrew BBQ bad? No. However, waiting two to four hours for fairly standard barbecue does not make sense to me. A Michelin Bib Gourmand is reasonable, but a star feels misaligned with the overall experience. I have been to Michelin starred barbecue spots in Austin, and they offered distinct options that justified both the recognition and the wait. In this case, I would rather go to places like Pinkerton's Barbecue, The Pit Room, Truth BBQ, or Killen's Barbecue. They offer comparable brisket and ribs without the excessive wait, so I do not see what meaningfully differentiates Corkscrew.
2). Agnes and Sherman
I have seen this restaurant mentioned frequently, so I decided to try it. I was initially hesitant based on the menu and photos, but its popularity made it worth evaluating. The best item was a spin-off of a Caesar salad. Beyond that, the food both looked and tasted unrefined, closer to an experimental home kitchen of a single guy in his twenties than a cohesive restaurant concept. Unlike Corkscrew, where the food is at least solid, this experience was difficult to justify.
Bakery recommendation for a birthday cake
I am looking for a bakery that can make a birthday cake, like the cake on the intro to “the great British baking show”.
A Google search says that it is a “chocolate fudge cake topped with raspberries and chocolate ganache”.
My GF casually mentioned she would like a cake like that while we were watching the show a few months ago. I have never bought a birthday cake so I don’t know where to start.
I do not think this is too difficult of a cake, but I am not a baker, so what do I know. Any recommendations are appreciated.
Here to plant my "Best Fries in Houston" flag
Duck fat fries at Lee's Cocktail Bar. Thick cut, crispy but soft inside, salty, great dipping sauce, perfect with a cocktail. Can't have enough of them.
Baso - one more time.
My buddy and I went last Thursday (posted pics to the sub) and went back last night.
This visit we got: aka ebi (diced sweet shrimp), maitake (a must order), lettuce (fun flavor but can skip this), ribeye, and the cheesecake.
The two standouts on the menu are the endive dish (ordered last visit) and the maitake. Absolutely delish. Between the pork chop and the ribeye, I say go pork chop.
Hint: don’t be afraid to ask for half orders of dishes. Many of them can be done. The Maitake pictured is a half order.
Last hint: if it’s just 2 people going, put on your reservation or call to request the chefs counter directly at the fire. It’s fun watching them and plus the heat is nice b/c the place is usually pretty cold temp.
Brisket and Rice
Is it worth going to? Or should I skip and go somewhere else?
ISO TexMex or BBQ restaurant with a fun atmosphere for a group
We are coming to Houston in May and I’m looking for TexMex and BBQ suggestions for a group for dinners. Would be a group of older teens and parents ~10-12 people. Looking for a fun atmosphere and getting to try TexMex and good BbQ.
We are staying at C Baldwin Curio (not sure what that area is called?) but have vehicles so can drive. TIA
ETA: we are from Los Angeles so specifically not looking for Vietnamese, Korean, Persian options as we have plentiful access here. Thanks!
Manchuria Fried Rice at Alings Chinese Bistro
This was my Monday’s dinner at Alings Chinese Bistro, a popular Indo-Chinese (Hakka) fusion restaurant. It was very flavorful and with a kick of spiciness. The savory ingredients were ginger, garlic, onion, cilantro and soy sauce.
Review: Burmalicious popup makes a compelling case for more Burmese food in Houston

houstonchronicle.comWedding Catering
I’m vegan and go to a lot of exclusively-only-vegan restaurants, I’m getting married in February 2027 and I wanna have some delicious vegan food and a meat option for my guests. I’m obviously not very well versed in the meat options department lol. It’s a small wedding, 30-35 people and we’re looking for something that’s more affordable.
Any recommendations? Thanks! ☺️
PLEASE HELP ME FIND THE RECIPIE
To literally anyone that can help me. I visited Houston not too long ago and was lucky(or unlucky depending on how this post goes) enough to try the cookies at Tiny’s Milk and Cookies. It was quite literally the best chocolate chip cookie I have ever had in my life. Unfortunately, I live extremely far away from Texas and don’t know the next time I’ll be able to visit and have one. But as an avid baker I’m determined to find out the recipe so that I can make them at home. I’m sending out the bat signal to literally anyone who may even know someone who might know the recipe to these cookies. Please reach out if you can help. Thank you!!
