I downloaded goodnotes back in 2022, but I have always used notability as I’ve always seen it as the best option for me. I would like now to check how GN is doing, what features does it have and how does it compare to notability. My question now is: is it worth it to switch to GN 7, or is it really too buggy to use? What features would I have access to? What changed?

Hi, so basically I want to use Goodnotes on both my iPad and my Windows computer with goodnotes sync. I am currently using goodnotes 5 with one-time payment on my iPad.
2 questions:
Is Goodnotes essential enough or do I need goodnotes pro?
Do I need to create a new goodnotes account because on the website it says it doesn’t work if you upgrade from one time payment. if so can I transfer my old notebooks?

I have been using goodnotes for a year now, everything was going smoothly until few days ago.
My iPad is 10th generation. app version is 7.0.47.
i tried to export a file (a bit large) to a friend via airdrop. it didn’t go through and when I tried to cancel the whole app showed that the entire document folder was empty. which meant that everything I had collected over the year is gone. all my notes are in this and my exams are close, so if this is gone I’m done for. so I panicked and minimized that window, and opened a new one. that one came out okay and everything was there.
and the “swipe up to get a new page” option did not work and when I cancelled it the whole page was empty. then I closed the document and opened it again and then it was fine.
small things like these keep happening. my iPad is also relatively new (only 1.5 years of use), but it does have some issues like airdrop slowing and occasional glitches. what could be the problem?
Currently, Image-based PDFs and Screenshots / inserted images are not searchable.
They're basically dead content. Which is kinda frustrating because a lot of study material is literally scans or screenshots. It would be a huge upgrade if GoodNotes could run OCR on imported PDFs that don’t have it and detect text inside inserted images. Knowledge should be retrievable and searchable. Perhaps we could extend the Ai features already implemented to improve the search experience. Having to process files elsewhere just to bring them back into GoodNotes breaks the whole flow. Feels like this is one of those features that would instantly improve daily use for a lot of people. Anyone else annoyed by this or found a decent workaround?
Best Android Tablet PDF App Like Drawboard for Heavy Studying / Large Hyperlinked PDFs?

I’ve been using Drawboard PDF on desktop with huion h640p graphic tablet, and it has been amazing for studying. I recently got a Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, and I’m looking for an Android tablet app that can offer a similar experience.
A big reason I liked Drawboard is that it had features that were extremely useful for my workflow as a medical student:
What I usually do is combine all PDFs of the academic year into one large file, then design a first page that works like an index/table of contents with all lectures listed and each one connected using hyperlinks.
So for me, hyperlink support is very important because it saves a huge amount of time when navigating large study files.
Also, Samsung S Pen support is very important (pressure sensitivity, button support, smooth writing, low latency).

Hey, wanted to ask people who actually use Goodnotes Whiteboard seriously.
I only take notes on infinite canvas on conceptsApp, mostly math / CSE type stuff. I’m currently on Concepts, and I really like the canvas + pen feel, but the lack of proper search is becoming a big pain.
I’m considering switching to Goodnotes mainly because of search, but I keep seeing posts about Whiteboard limits and that’s making me hesitate.

Also one more issue: search on my Mac app is behaving really weirdly. I’ve already tried reindexing, toggling indexing, restarting the app/Mac, etc. It works randomly. If I write a new word on Mac, sometimes only that new word becomes searchable, almost like the full handwriting index from iCloud isn’t syncing properly.
Has anyone else faced that?
Would really appreciate real-world experiences before I migrate everything.

Hello. I am currently using noteful for about a year or two now. But i always feel that i am missing on features or the fluentness of goodnotes. I am thinking of buying goodnotes one time purchase.. Is it worth the money. Hep me please
1000+ updates later, we still only have a round-edged highlighter. I’m actually sick of this. It should have a straight-edged highlighter for notes. It looks more aesthetic, and I’d like to have the option to switch between the two and use whichever I prefer. Not even having that option is exhausting me.
Notability has officially made me mad. It updated and literally no longer works and is unusable. if they don’t fix it by monday i will be switching. people that have went from notability to goodnotes, what do you like better? what is different? etc.
After version 7 update Goodnotes 6 is having issue in syncing with error message "we could not save your changes please try again" PLEASE FIX IT.

I have been a Goodnotes user for all of my classes since the beginning of 12th grade. I am now coming to the end of my first year of university and as I try to study for finals, I am running into storage issues on my iPad which are interrupting my ability to use Goodnotes to study! My notes have not been syncing for some time, as I have had full icloud storage but the most recent pop-up that I keep getting says “Storage full, empty trash”. As my trash was empty, I tried deleting old notebooks, which it wasn’t letting me do. The app would then pop up with the attached error message for only a second and then the screen went completely black. I tried many times and deleted other photos and apps from my iPad. Eventually, I was able to get back in the app and delete over 330 pages from high school. Somehow, the amount of storage that Goodnotes is taking up on my ipad went UP!
I am not sure how it is taking up so much storage in the first place, I have friends using Goodnotes who are also in first year and are taking similarly rigorous courses which rely on note-taking and they do not have this issue despite having just as many notebooks and just as many pages if not more. Anyways, I cannot comprehend how I haven’t freed up storage from all of this deleting.
Should I wait overnight to see if anything moves? I contacted Goodnotes tech support and I get this automated message to check this link to instructions to do a manual backup and offload the app. Everything is so finicky and glitchy right now from the storage issue, I am not sure that doing a back up would even work! I am also worried to lose my year 1 notes, especially my current ones. I am using to study for my finals for the next two weeks!
I am not the most tech savvy and I am quite worried about my ability to study via Goodnotes for my examinations!

After selecting an object with the lasso tool,i try to use the screenshot feature by tapping “More“, But it freezes like a video and I can’t do anything.
As soon as i tap it, the keyboard pops up and the. “More” menu disappears.
I even deleted and reinstalled the app, but the problem still persists. does anyone know how to fix this?

Lmao you actually cannot write it. Every single time I tell myself to get over the latest (of so so many) Goodnotes issues, stop being such a perfectionist and using it as a reason to not do work, and get on with it, I immediately find another problem. I've literally just spent 2 hours looking for another notes app for the hundredth time, only to admit defeat and pay for another year of Goodnotes, to immediately encounter another problem. Please help !!!!!
One of the things I hate about Goodnotes is that it's so difficult to format typed notes and annotate the page with drawings/diagrams. I really like the content to look uniform so I have neat notes to work off of. Making that a viable option is proving impossible for the Goodnotes team so my latest compromise was working out exactly what my perfect pen settings are so at least my handwritten notes will look somewhat consistent.
NOPE!!!! I worked out my perfect settings are those in the highlighted row. I create a new note to get on with actual work and all of a sudden the same exact settings are different???????? Can someone please tell me if I'm doing something wrong because as embarrassing as it'll be getting worked up for no reason I'd much rather that than add it to my growing list of Goodnotes resentments!!!!!
