Trying to decide if the game is for me or not before my refund window is up but I’m very confused how you’re supposed to manage controlling so many units with so many mechanics like cover and individual troop inventory, I struggle enough in total war games to utilize everything

Like (pulling numbers out of my ass) if I have 35 rifleman and an AT squad and a commissar (hate playing Germans in ww2 games) and a tank and a jeep with an MG on the back and a medic, and I’m supposed to push up and capture and hold a point, how tf do I manage that many units at once?

For reference I’m complete and total ass at company of heroes too for the same reason I just don’t know how to use all of my units effectively and predict what the enemy is going to be doing.

I understand the basics of ww2 tactics, tanks push in towards the strongest part while supported by infantry moving cover to cover protecting the tank while other infantry go around the flanks and support with grenades and taking control of buildings yadda yadda, I just don’t understand how I’m supposed to do that when I have to control every little thing individually. I did the basic infantry tutorial and winged it in a dynamic conquest thing for a bit and gave up pretty quick because I was just overwhelmed.

I have a lot of strategy game experience but not a lot in games like this, like in total war it lets me hit pause and organize my units all nice nice whenever I want, in mount and blade bannerlord my units are grouped together in large amounts so it’s much easier to manage them since it’s just 4 large groups, dawn of war the mechanics are much less complex and it’s more of a numbers game, etc.

Tried getting a screenshot of a crazy artillery bombardment, happened to catch a jet going down in the middle of it

Does anybody think airforce needs an upgrade?

I feel like there are not enough variety of planes, for example Germany is missing Ju 87,Focke Wulf and I would like to see Me 262,which is rarely in games

I know airforce is not the main focus but still I would love some kind of DLC that expands it

Post-Combat Relaxation

Recently I bought the game during the sale, I really liked Call to Arms so I thought OSTFRONT would be really good and it was. The combat feels great, I like the music and the WWII nerd in me is very pleased.

Conquest has been another beast for me. I really enjoyed the fight, managing units and how artillery feels super good but I also noticed something else.
Recently I find myself enjoying what comes next after the battle more and more, the repairing of vehicles, the towing of abandoned field guns and the capture of vehicles.

I caught myself wanting to get back to that. I relax a lot when I start just observing my units. The game is pretty and it lends itself imto moments when I say “That was actually someone’s morning” and compare it to real photos of WWII.

Maybe I’m looking too far into it, but I really really liked this game and I’m glad I bought it. Maybe I’m not the only with these feelings?

Conquest Difficulty

I’m pretty much routed and defeated on every advance in a standard AI campaign. I am finding German armour very very hard to deal with as the US.

They can often destroy my entire advance at the first objective! I survive by retreating to farm some funds and ammo points and research. I manage to hold a succesful defence and exploit the armour we defeated to capture and use or sell, and slightly advance my research. but my gains are diminishing every defence as armour remains a challenge. I don’t have anything to deal with German armour effectively, and I am left with a few ideas.

  1. Did I play it too safe in the early game to generate research points and am I too far behind? I only just managed to move past the M3 Lee and research the M4 Early DV. I often am up against a single tight grouping of Panzer III & IV. I’ve had some very succesful and economic defences by doing the usual things, using recon to identify approach, siting choke points, hiding AT, and my defence planning is good with engagement areas and mutual support - my first line usually breaks after 1000 points in attempts to defeat armour blobs to exploit.

  2. My main ability to deal with these tanks seem to be most organically effective with the 57mm Gun M1 AT (Late), but it’s often destroyed very easily. I have not unlocked bazookas (probably related to point 1 having learnt the AI will release units based on the day and I’ve been stuck in a delay battle strategically with limited gains due to the inability to advance an offence)

  3. Is my struggle simply a skill issue with planning and micro…and in this case, can anyone recommend some good learning material?

  4. My composition must be lacking. I usually use 2 45 Div squads, 2 ATs in call in 1, more AT guns and infantry in call in 2, Captured panzer III with more AT in call in 3. I can recognise a lack of artillery but I have found it mostly ineffective and it gets compromised easily drawing the tanks in anyway…and my M3s never stand a chance in support or supported by infantry in the advance.

I’ve managed to breakthrough the high cost of the Lee M3 at least and research the M4 Early before I put down the game tonight. Do I push for the hellcat and keep playing or is the lesson here: skill issue, go back to easy and play around to generate some new tactics? I can easily defeat a standard AI in regular skirmish; for what it’s worth; before armour becomes a problem. So I thought I might have been ready for the challenge!

Enjoying the game, as frustrating as it is.

Time to delete all saved data?

For a few months now I’ve been unable to play dynamic conquest, loading DC forced an instant crash. singleplayer mission work find. I’m playing on GeForce Now, does anyone know how I can access these files to delete them?

Annoyingly I can’t access the files in game, as it crashes every time before getting to the “Load game” screen. nightmare.

I’m at a point now where I’d rather delete all saves, achievements, progress, just to be able to play. ~500 hours in.

any help appreciated, thanks.

Is there something in COH3 that you would like to see in Ostfront?

Basically title. I have a online friend who insists on me getting COH3. Ive told him so many times that the variety that Ostfront provides in unmatched and its impossible for me to go back to "here is 2 medium tanks and 1 heavy". But i have to admit COH3 seems like it has adopted alot of stuff alot of veterans wanted from COH1.

So my question to people who have played both Ost. and COH3: Is there something that COH3 has that Ostfront doesnt?

No hate for any of the games mentioned <3

made custom squads and lots of weapons are misclassified, so veterancy does not apply.

stg 44 should be a rifle, but actually it is not see skill 6. only 2 stars.

How to learn and start playing normally CtA?

I bought the game a long time ago, but I can't learn how to play it. I've gone through the tutorial, watched the guides, but nothing's changed. I wanted to buy the DLC, but I'm not sure I'll continue playing. How do I learn to play THIS?

Mods that improve conquest AI without altering vanilla balance too much?

There are a lot of popular mods that claim to improve AI.. and then also list 1000 other changes to the authors liking, like extending weapon ranges, adding new units etc, making the moustache man himself playable because why the hell not (ok I made that one up, but you know where I'm going with this)

I don't want those sorts of changes, I just want more difficult and smarter AI operating on mostly vanilla mechanics and stats. Some very minor alterations, like AI using medics are fine I guess.
