(AN APOLOGY TO FMAB)rewatching after about 8 years, thought it was overrated the first time, love it or hate it,this anime literally deserves the #1 position forever

Writing this post while i'm in pure ecstasy,Just finished ep 51 and god oh god,the scene of alphonse emerging while ray of light is playing in background gave me pure excitement, wanted to make this post when edwards said to winry,"your hands are not meant for killing, they are meant to give life",and let it all out plays while winry cries, what a perfect writing and direction...i realised that fmab might not even be someone's top 10,but still,no sane person can deny the fact that this is the closest anime to perfection.the direction, the animation, the ost,the op and ed,most importantly, the writing,it's like everything came together to make this the greatest anime,i stopped watching anime after aot ended due to the recurring aura farming themes, but this made me fall in love with the medium all over again,i had to make a post to appreciate this piece of work,as i thought it was overrated when i just had starting watching anime, again, this might not be my fav anime, not even in my top 10,but still, this is something which deserves the #1 spot for decades to come, until something better comes forward, aot is my favourite, but fmab is the most perfect.Feeling a little sad as this journey is going to end soon, but i'm glad i gave this a rewatch.

I got some pretty bad memory loss from when I had depression, now that I'm better I'm making the most of it by rewatching Full Metal!

I had moderate depression for at least 3 years before I finally ended up breaking down and getting help. After some time I've got help and I've been feeling way better. Partway through that recovery I learned that memory loss is a symptom of depression. Well it's sad I can't remember important events I get to watch all these shows again that I barely remember anymore but I know were good. And I learned that my already obnoxious optimism gets even worse now that I'm doing better.

I'm 16 episodes in and I'm already shocked at how much things have moved. Some of the events I thought happened later on happened really early on. I'm getting to the point where I only know a few plot points and then everything else is new.

Lastly I just gotta say, if you ever at all feel like you're in a situation where you need help or things feel wrong make sure you reach out. Part of why I struggled for so long is that I didn't say anything. Being a guy I was constantly told I needed to tough it out and so I did, but it wasn't great. Unfortunately I get told that a lot and can really struggle to talk to people about sensitive things because of that. Also, you don't need to struggling in the way others depict it. What I mean is not all depression is stuff like self harm, panic attacks, or clearly wrong things. I kept chugging along because even though I felt down, i wasn't showing symptoms people normally do.

Sorry for the rant, I just felt the need to disclose this great discovery of mine and kept yapping. I'm willing to answer questions about my experience if you want but I figured I don't need to overshare too much on a Reddit post that people didn't ask for.

There used to be a time when Wrath was afraid of something.

Makes me wonder, what kind of man could he have been had Father’s experiment on him got thwarted? Man even had a genuine ambition to be a ruler.

Maybe he could’ve been a young politician with superb charisma, political knowledge and dreams, the Mustang of his age. He could’ve accidentally created the Ishvalan blood crest by simply waging war on Aerugo.

why can't the homonculi get pregnant?

they can't copulate with humans as Wrath failed, but they never really specified what specifically prevents them beyond being homonculi if I remember correctly. assuming they all have genitals (which would track since Wrath attempted to have a child with his wife and failed, Greeds loves women which implies he has a lot of sex, and Prides fetal state had some), couldn't they at least have a child between each other?

in fmab, im not super sure how the souls work but maybe they could have sex, transfer one of the souls in their philosopher stones since they're still alive (and I'm sure one of these souls is a baby with a conceptualization of themselves not developed enough to reject), and imitate conception? envy has them embedded in her most powerful form so she at least can interact with them, even if it's not to the extent of hohenheim

2003 power system is a lot harder for me to grasp but from what I gathered, their sustenance (red rocks) were collected through a process involving pregnant women. they don't have souls but surely they could try to imitate the process and continuously sustain the child through the rocks? though this seems less likely since they would have to not only transmute but also redo the situation with Wrath, which would be hard

realistically they wouldn't but this ain't for them it's for me

I think a 6-7 part mini-series on the origin of each canonical human before and the short time after being changed by 'Father' with a stone would be great

I would like to know if there is any remnant of the original humans still in conflicting mental talks with the sin persona, similar to Greed and Ling Yao?

Ling Yao's fate suggests that a stone was put in a human each time, but if that's the case, it conflicts with the "true essence" form of homunculi like Pride and Envy.

Is there any HIDDEN poetic symbolism behind the offensive & defensive abilities of the 7 homunculi that perpetuates their sins/names?? I feel like there is nuance that went over my head due to plot.

  • Gluttony: spitting ...air....like bullets? I don't know... (I WILL say that it doesn't seem like 'Father' really disjointed himself from gluttony if he was seeking to have the power of "God" itself)
  • Lust: having those claws to pierce one's "defences" to get closer to them (sexually)?
  • Greed: having carbon armour to prolong lifespan and survive retaliation while taking what they want from others?
  • Envy: self-explanatory.
  • Pride: ....?
  • Wrath: ....?
  • Sloth: being the fastest in order to be useful & effective when necessary, so they can maximize their time being lazy & inert?

Looking for Riza official art

I saw this illustration of Riza Hawkeye in a YouTube video showing “The Complete Art of Fullmetal Alchemist” book, but I couldn’t find a higher-quality scan on Google or Pinterest. Can anyone help me find one?

If the homunculus cannot use alchemy , then where is their power coming from ?

I know they are created from the philosopher stone but the stone doesn't grant you any power , it's just a glorified battery , giving the stone to a non alchemist would be useless . Aside from Gluttony who is built to replicate the door , Greed and Envy's ability especially feel like alchemy to me

Some say they cannot use alchemy cuz they have no soul but they do ? they have a dominant soul exist outside of the philosopher stone , do they

Fullmetal (2003), and where to watch it in 2026?

I’ve seen brotherhood, but I recently saw a clip from the 2003 anime’s movie that piqued my interest. Is there anywhere I could possibly watch the original series and the movie, I checked crunchyroll and some other streaming services, but no dice.

Fanart/FMAB-Style Screenshots (Alt. Brotherhood Ending)

Thought to share this previous art set I did back in March! This pretty much stemmed from the idea of: "What if the Philosopher's Stone had exhausted itself after healing Havoc, and Roy was left blind?", leading me to wonder how a 'farewell' scene between him and Edward would go before the latter leaves for the West.

I imagine Roy wouldn't be too fussed about it (or would at least try not to look like he is), while Edward... feels differently. Not that the other would notice.

and yes I only recently found out that I used the wrong stars/stripes for the Brigadier General rank forgive me for being a fraud aksjdhaksns /j /lh

These are also cropped versions of the original upload (to fit the 16:9 format) with fixed text, so feel free to check out the full illustrations if you're curious. I prefer the composition on those personally. ^^
