This was about that crazy lady in Texas wanting to put American "Zionists" in camps and castrate them btw
Message me if you want the link to the comment
A tankie sub cheers on a fringe Texas leftist primary candidate who said that "we need to imprison Zionists in internment camps" & "zionist billionaires control America".
Do you agree with this version of history of America and democracy?
I recently made a post to r/NewIran about how I feel political identity crisis because I always identified as a leftist, but now I suddenly see myself having hawkish foreign policy against Iran and other countries hostile to the west and liberal values in general.
One person’s response particularly intrigued me, saying basically that no country in human history did more to spread freedom and democracy as the United States did. Particularly citing Monroe Doctrine, allowing Simon Bolivar to do his revolution which turned South American countries into free and independent republics. And presumably referring to America’s opposition to communism during Cold War.
I like to think that, but I’m not entirely sure.
Regarding Iran itself, there’s of course the story about the supposed coup against Mohammed Mosaddegh for nationalizing Iranian oil. This is popular narrative among leftists and Islamists. When in reality, he was lawless tinpot dictator who destroyed Iranian economy and was believed to be Soviet puppet.
I’m wondering if the narrative of the US being the worse empire ever for doing regime change in so many countries, supposedly just because their leftist leaders didn’t want to share their national resources with America, isn’t actually turned on its head.
Americans have toppled or helped to topple many leftist leaders during Cold War. Isabel Perón, Jacobo Arbeéns, João Goulard, Salvador Allende… just to name a few. The common narrative is that Americans did or supported it because they didn’t want to see socialism succeed or simply for power.
Regarding power, power is mostly money these days. And money is needed by everyone. So the narrative that Americans topple democracies over the world because they don’t want to trade with the US doesn’t make much sense. When a Clovis has national resources, it’s in its best interest to sell it and profit off of it. You probably want the favor of the biggest buyer there is. Which is the US. So the idea that Mosaddegh or Hugo Chavez became the enemies of America because they wouldn’t sell their oil to them is stupid.
Not wanting to see socialism succeed… That is to me *kinda* plausible. But knowing how bad the conditions in USSR were and its own satellites, there seems to be very little evidence that socialism can actually work at big scale. Yugoslavia was arguably the freest communist country and it was still considerably beneath the capitalist west.
I have a theory that maybe just maybe, toppling these leaders may have been necessary to protect the world from the growing influence of the USSR. Maybe, just maybe, doing regime change over the place is a necessary and inevitable part of being global superpower.
Because think of it this way: If USA was not global superpower, who would be? Russia? China? Most likely both. And what would they do with all that power? Influencing world governments in their favor. Just like they did now! And not to keep them democratic. Imperialism is ugly and perhaps inevitable given histories of some countries. So maybe there has to be some counterweight to it.
While people may talk shit about America like it’s the most evil, greediest country in the world that’s responsible for all pain and suffering in the world, think of what the world was before it became global superpower. Global disorder. Isolationism was much more common than today, wars over stupid things, genocides… What if after all, America is really the great savior of the world democracy?
I think it’s without much controversy that if America didn’t enter the world war 2, all or much of Europe would either be subjugated by Stalin and become communist, potentially to this day, or by Stalin, becoming fascist to this day.
Has anyone else seen this girl on TikTok, Madeline Pendleton? Here she is defending the ussr’s invasion of Poland.
The Economist's glowing review of Chairman Mao in 1976 upon his death.
"In the final reckoning Mao must be accepted as one of history’s great achievers: for devising a peasant-centred revolutionary strategy which enabled China’s Communist party to seize power, against Marx’s prescriptions, from bases in the countryside; for directing the transformation of China from a feudal society, wracked by war and bled by corruption, into a unified, egalitarian state where nobody starves; and for reviving national pride and confidence so that China could, in Mao’s words, “stand up” among the great powers."
Where nobody starves.🤡 And this is an "economist" magazine.
"Biggest role in WW2 means have the most casualities and without lend-lease"
Pretty ironic when the Soviets begged the West to open the second front in Europe
The most hated person in Vietnam today
Context: The girl on the image is Bao Ngoc Ashley, a Vietnamese pro-Palestine activist who joined the Global Sumud Flotilla and sailed to Gaza to break the blockage. Just a few hours earlier, she and her teamates wer illegally abducted by the IOF. When this news was spread out on Facebook, it is expected that the Vietnamese communists will condemn Israel, or at least sympathize and pray for her safety, because of the *"common struggle between Vietnam and Palestine against imperialism"*, right? RIGHT?
Nope, the majority of Vietnamese communinsts (mostly national communists) instantly flock to every Facebook groups to humiliate and insult the crew, comparing her to Greta (haha f**king effeminate woke Gen Z). Only a handful of (international) communists urge the government to interfere to ensure her safety, and they are threaten by no one their own comrades to STFU or get a VND 7.5 million fine.
