Mixed Fire Dragon Squad All Done! From 1990 to 2025!
After getting the Finecast box riiiiight before Fuegan leaked I really, really sat on that six man group. I picked up two of the new plastic minis of the month, tweaked one, and then found two old 1990 versions in the old bits box and hey... the history is almost all here! I don't have any of the 3rd Edition spikey ones, which is fine.
You can see they mix pretty well.
I'm overall happy with this bunch paint wise. Fairly "quick and dirty."
Zenithal up from Mechanicus Grey to Grey Seer to Skull White.
Contrast Gryph Hound Orange
Fuegan Orange all over
A little bit of black-lining, normal metals, and other details to taste.
Helmets are generally more white, with Contrast Imperial Fist, then Dorn Yellow edge highlights.
I will probably never use them because I have a toddler. :)
Autarch kitbash out of the spares from my recent Yriel project
They appear without warning. They disappear even faster. Saim-Hann is pure instinct.
Autarch kitbash out of the spares from my recent Yriel porject
Kharseth in the colors of the Greensteel Warriors!
Yriel needed his best friend!
first Corsair almost done!
hey all, just finished up this corsair voidscarred for the night and wanted to share the progress. any advice is appreciated!
To bird, or not to bird?
I can’t quite get it all in focus because iPhone…
But do you all think the bird helps? To me it balances the composition, but others say he’s a bit pointless?
Help identifying this model
Hi its me again, the guy who got handed a ton of models with no idea what anything looked like. For the life of me I can't figure out what this metal mini is supposed to be, and the guys from the store that were helping me are busy. Does anybody here know what this individual might be? Feels like a character to me but I am likely wrong.
(WIP) Thoughts on this color scheme for my scorpions?
Still a WIP, but I’m trying some things out for an alternate scheme for my scorpions. Was not too thrilled about the prospect of painting bright green and yellow, so I came up with this. Any thoughts? It is not done yet, but the main armor color is mostly complete.
Autarch on jetbike
While waiting to see if this kit finally gets an update in 11th. I have kitbashed some spare windriders into 3 autarchs on jetbike. One for each weapon option.
First model in the range done.
Open to thoughts and feedback, like the color scheme but trying to decide if the colors work for the whole range
Dire Avenger done. Slightly bashed with guardian arms
What's up with Eldar model scaling?
I had a feeling like our updated character models, specifically Autarch and Warlocks, are bigger than other models, so I did a proper comparison and sure enough they are significantly bigger than the just as recent guardians or all other aspect warriors. Isn't that really weird? I don't think any other faction has special scaling for characters, at least nothing I could see on Minicompare.
Building a Wraithlord do you think opponents will upset if I change him up to be squatting position?
I have this desire to see this wrairthlord, squatting, with either his sword inverted tip in the ground. Once I get into proxies and kitbashing I started to realize that part of modding minis is keeping their general size and height.
I'm also not opposed to one knee bent on a rock, to preserve height but wanted to get the communities opinion.
Turns out CEX isn't too bad for 40K, got all this to start off my Eldar army for a good discount.
Will pick up both the corsair and standard combat patrols next once I have worked my way through all this. I know the Lhykhis isn't ideal with what I have but it was only £15 brand new and didnt want to pass up on it.
Eldrad Ulthran model kitbash ideas?
As every picture I’ve seen of Eldrad Ulthran is from the front, I’ve never seen him from the back. Personally I think his cape looks ridiculous with this gap where the staff goes through.
Does anyone else have a similar opinion and have you kitbashed at all to kinda hide this?
I haven’t kitbashed a single model at all yet, so any tips would be lovely!
Illic Nightspear kitbash day 4 & 5
Day 4. Fitting the right arm with the rifle proved easier than I had anticipated. the little cable from the scope actually fits perfectly with the shoulder pad. The larger pipe running to the backpack didn't really but not so much as to need repositioning. The back end of it also ends up almost entirely behind the big rifle holster that Rangers have as an optional bit. So all good.
I read the short story of Illic's narrow escape on Carnac. It was not explicitly stated but seems likely that Voidbringer contains the soul of Eldanoreth (the renowned Eldar smith) in the same way as Asurmen's sword contains the soul of his deceased brother. It 'speaks' to him occasionally. Of course this means Voidbringer needs a soulstone attached somewhere. Very fiddly work, this was.
Day 5. Much deliberation on the left arm and sword. Sourcing a new arm already holding a powersword in the pose I wanted was proving to be more trouble that it was worth and would mean I would have to sculpt the long sleeve of the Ranger cloak and glove over most of it anyway. So I decided to build it from parts I already had. The upper arm with sleeve is from the standard Ranger kit just angled more inward. The forearm and hand are actually from the same arm (shuriken pistol) but cut at the elbow and reposed. Cutting away the pistol and leaving the hand intact required some precise and patient work - more fiddly than the soulstone.
I'm not all that happy with the sword but I don't hate it either. It's just the top of the starglaive with the Autarch rune removed. I didn't want the sword to look too fancy as it's not Illic's signature weapon, so a slightly shorter blade seemed appropriate here. But it still had to be a powersword in some way. I have some harlequin blades spare but those don't have the little egg-shaped power cell ubiquitous on all Eldar power weapons.
I decided against the tactical rock that comes with the Autarch as it made him even taller than he already is and also changes the pose to something I didn't like. I tend to model all my Autarchs with a neutral, almost boring pose because in my headcanon these chaps are never really surprised by anything. Illic is not an Autarch but he's not far off imho.
The head is still loose as I will probably undercoat it in white instead of black and I still need to clean up the left elbow where the sleeve meets the glove. Also still to do is sculpt a hood behind the head like the other Rangers but otherwise he's pretty much done.
