I'm looking for some recs with a competent, adult, normal Hermione. Examples of which would be in Measure of A Man, DMATTOOBIL, Sprigs of Tansy, A Shift In Loyalty, A Hard Roe to Hoe, Sacramentum, Remain Nameless, etc. Yes, she's incredibly smart, very loyal, hard working but doesn't have all the answers, makes mistakes sometimes, isn't mad all the time, enjoys time with her friends and is a bit insecure like all humans are. The characterization of Hermione being good at all things, has major attitude, and can run baddies down in 6 inch heels and kick their butts all with a pithy comeback gets old for me. I want a story, good writing and a competent Hermione - insecurities, warts, brilliance and all. In other words, like most of us. I'm reading a WIP (well, I've stopped because I totally glommed all the chapters and now I'm just going to wait for it to be finished bc I've found I'm NOT a WIP person) called Hermione Granger's Rules for Growing things and I love it. Longer than 60,000 words and no WIP would be appreciated. No offense to mega lovers of the BAMF (or your definition of it) trope. TIA

I saw this on another subreddit and I immediately wanted to see if anyone has this in their fic. I’m not choosy about the third but would prefer an MMF, so hit me with your recommendations!
I need help 🆘 I’ve searched and searched and searched, but I can’t find a fanfic set at Hogwarts that gives me what “Post-War” and “Voldemort Wins” have given me. I’m stuck living off TikTok edits, and I need more than 20 seconds of story.
Here’s my super-specific request:
- Enemies-to-lovers, because I ended up here for the drama; otherwise, I would’ve chosen Ron.
- I want it to take place at Hogwarts; I don’t care if it’s 6th, 7th, 8th year, or a complete rewrite where they start liking each other earlier (at the 4th-year dance would be nice *wink, wink*). It can also be flashbacks.
- Angst (let them fight, let Draco be battling his demons, let Draco kiss Pansy, let Bellatrix do what she does... I want to tear my hair out)
- Secret relationship 🫦
- Forced proximity
- Slow burn
- It doesn’t have to be super spicy, but at least a climax to their mutual desire. I don’t want a story that’s too juvenile.
I’m looking for that kind of somewhat sad school atmosphere from the Half-Blood Prince movie, with them ending up together.
I have a strong stomach, so if your recommendation is very dark, I don’t mind—just give it to me.
I’ll say again that I can’t seem to find anything like this, but examples similar to what I’m looking for would be:
- Isolation by Bexchan (chef’s kiss)
- The Bracelet by Akashathekitty: it was one of the first fanfics I read many years ago; it basically had everything I mentioned, but from the middle on it lost quality, and personally, I can’t stand Hermione’s personality in this story.
That said, I leave it up to your wisdom.

“Sorry—this imbecile calls himself the ‘Naked Chef’?” came Malfoy’s voice as the title sequence played. It was the first thing either of them had said in over an hour.
They were in their usual nighttime spots—though the fact that they had “usual” spots was rather distressing, to be honest. In any case, she was on her sofa, ensconced in a patchwork quilt. Her glass of Riesling was on the side table within easy reach. Malfoy was in his tank, perched atop the half-log. The blue light of the telly was reflected in his bulbous eyes.
“Yes,” replied Hermione. “No idea why.”
“Clearly trying to titillate his audience,” he said with the air of one formulating an incisive hypothesis. “Although why anybody would want to see him naked is beyond me. He’s got eyes like a mole.”
“Maybe some viewers care about more than just his face.”
“Oh? Haven’t seen his arse yet, but is it good? Pert? Biteable?”
“Don’t be crass.”
“Do you like this clod, then?”
She wobbled her head. “Not really my type.”
“What’s your type then, Granger?” he drawled, glancing over at her.
She took a large sip of her wine. “Oh, I dunno. Not too tall.” She took a second to think more on the question, which no one had ever asked her before.
“That’s it?” asked Malfoy incredulously. “You’re attracted to people who aren’t ‘too tall’?”
“Men who aren’t too tall,” she amended. “And—hmm… Obviously he must own books.”
Malfoy scoffed. “Everyone owns books.”
“Not true. And he must read them.”
“Granger. With whom have you been socializing?”
“You would be shocked at how low the bar is,” she grumbled. “What about you, then? What’s your type?”
“Demure—”
“Oh, my word,” Hermione murmured, already hating his answer.
“—suggestible—”
“For heaven's sake—”
“—and filthy rich.”
“You had better be taking the piss,” she huffed.
A low laugh came from the tank. “I am taking the piss, Granger.”

She loved a list. Her desk was covered in them. She probably had a master list somewhere which listed all of her lists in an optimal list-y format.
She latched onto that, slightly manically. “A list, yes.” But then she was off again, because it seemed she was currently allergic to composure. “Except we don’t have any pens or — or paper or a wand.”
Draco’s patience was fraying at the edges. “We have our mouths, Granger! Not every Godric forsaken list needs to be written down. Let’s talk.”
She blinked at him, breathing slightly too quickly. “Talk. Okay,” she said, and underwent full-body capitulation, flopping straight onto the grass as if she’d suffered an instant loss of muscle tone. “Talk. I can do that.”
Draco commented, “We have legs too.” In case her many wits had abandoned her (which, scarily, seemed possible), he held two fingers in the air and mimed walking them along like a shit puppeteer. “We can always walk until we find civilisation and one of those fellytones you can call Potter with.”
Granger smiled ever so slightly, but then her face wiped clean and she sat bolt upright again. “What if we have to walk for days? I don’t have my bag! We have no camping equipment or … or food or — or clothes! ”
His eye almost twitched. Only almost though — it wouldn’t do to let her see any sign of weakness. “Just lie down, witch.”
It was a testament to the extent of her breakdown that she did just that. No arguments beyond a whispered but indignant, “I haven’t even got a bra on,” as she slumped down. Draco wasn’t sure if he was even meant to hear it.
So, obviously, he employed great tact in answering. “What about knickers?”
“Shut up, Malfoy.”
It was an answer even though it wasn’t, he thought.
His ears felt a little hot. Weird.

There's a scene in ch 31 where they are playing truth and dare, Hermione is sitting on Theo's lap and Draco is asked a question. Instead of answering it, he apparates Theo and Hermione to his room...and things get heated 🌚
He asks theo to restrain her hands and pull apart her legs while he goes down on her so she can't struggle. He edges her 5 times before finally letting her orgasm and them coaxes another few even when she begs she's had enough.

I just finished I’ll Make You Proud, and I loved Draco’s love for Hermione and how i was everlasting. Does anyone have another fic where Draco is devastatingly in love with Hermione and in a state of denial, “She’ll never love me” and he goes in with his life. All the while Hermione falls for him and she’s even doing the chasing. Draco loves all this attention but he’s just in disbelief. Does that make sense? Is there a fic like this? Do I have to write this?
