What do you not buy anymore — except from dollar tree?

What did you used to buy at say, CVS or Target regularly that now you have stopped buying there and exclusively buy at TDT because it’s the same quality and much cheaper? Also, what do you NOT get from dollar tree cuz it’s worth getting name brand?

Trying to rewire my brain to think of dollar tree as my drugstore but I just don’t know all the possibilities.

This can extend to makeup or skincare if theres a product that is super good. But strong scents really get to me which eliminates lots of the fun stuff 😣

For instance, I have gotten loofahs and wash cloths and soap bars from dollar tree and they’ve been great.

I saw they have a Sensodyne dupe which could be huge… and they have toothbrushes and even Tylenol.

I am wary of dupes of aquaphor or dishwasher pods, though, cuz those never perform as well as the name brand.

This is ridiculous!!

So I'm 16 I been working at Dollar Tree since February 9th I started as a cashier and then moved to being an early morning stocker at 5am about 5 weeks ago I would say.

For the record I love my job, the job itself is so easy and I enjoy it a lot. But there has been wayyyy too much going on at work itself and I don't even know where to start with this.

First, the root of all the issues is our District Manager, so he is making our incredible store manager fill in for a DM for "about a month" at another district wayyyy on the otherside of town about an hour away. So obviously, we really haven't had her around at all, but our DM has been in the store a lot which is fine.

Our DM in general does take advantage of everyone in general and he is a bit of a jerk he often threatens to fire us if we don't stay for overtime and stuff like that. We are also going through this whole reset which also is making my coworkers angry.

Our store is a model store it's one of the best stores in town I hear it every day and we have a really great team I'm proud of my store.

And I get the DM is just doing his job but we'll just never please him. But he's becoming too much for me.

My normal schedule is 5am-1pm Monday-Friday which is perfect for me considering that I can still do school after work and have time with friends. It's still basically full time and more than all my friends work, I also average 200-250 cases per day so it's not because I'm "lazy".

He first came to me last week saying "Hey Brooke I have a project for you if you don't mind staying for a little bit after your shift ends." And I was thinking in my head "wow the DM asked me specifically to do a project that's awesome" and he didn't seem like it was going to be a long time after my shift so I blurted out "Absolutely!" Then he says "You're staying until 3 cleaning the full front end." And my heart dropped 😂 I did it it's done but how he did that pissed me off.

Then, he asks me again the other day "How long can you stay for today?" I said "I can only stay my scheduled hours until 1 today" and he sighed and said "okay whatever." I said "I'm sorry I just have some stuff for school." And he walked away.

Next, our daytime freight team was 4 people.....then one of my coworkers just walked out on Monday morning.....and never came back. We had a whole corporate meeting on Monday so we had to delay the truck until Tuesday now this is where I almost hit my breaking point.

Our truck was scheduled for 5am....it got delayed until 9am.....then it said 11:20 it'll be there, we were all scheduled to get off at 1pm so my freight manager called our DM asking "hey can we possibly bump this truck until tomorrow?" And the DM's response was "No, none of you are leaving until this truck is emptied I don't care if it's until dark."

Thankfully the truck came at 10 and the three of us kicked ass and got the truck unloaded at 2:30 so it wasn't as late as we thought, it was also a 3,500 case truck. But during that morning of waiting for the truck I called my mom and bursted into tears because it's too much for me it really is.

I don't want to quit, I just want my store manager to come back but then again our DM told us last week "I can guarantee you she'll be back, but if she doesn't come back you'll have a new SM" so it's like which one is it? 😅

Anyways that's just part of it, am I in the wrong or is our DM a jerk? Because it is illegal for me to be working this much. But I'll do it I guess. I work my ass off o love the team I work with but damn.

Do WorkDay and Compass EVER actually work from personal devices?

So once again I can not access either WorkDay or Compass from my PC or phone. I can ONLY access them from the work office computer, which is ofc not ideal.

Before I sit on hold for four hours on my own time again... is there something more I can do than clear cookies and cache, try a new browser or device, or another internet connection? I have done all those to no avail. Both just sit and sit on login until they time out.

TIA.

😍 Whoever stocked, you did an amazing job!

This location is always the best I’ve ever seen, constantly. I only come every few months when I’m in town (Wells, Maine) but I when I am it always amazes me.

Gross 🤢

Just bought this about an hour ago and got home to find this. Wondering if I should take it back and try again or just skip cleansing pads at DT all together 🤷‍♀️

New Associate: How many pallets a day?

I just started working at DollarTree as a stocker. At my store we get 1 pallet each for drinks, food/pantry items, and one for chips/candy/snacks.

I get scheduled for 5 hour shifts and my manager said I'm supposed to do the entire drink pallet one day and the entire food/pantry pallet the next day.

I did like half the drink pallet my first day and then like 60% of the food/pallet the second day. Then I came in on a third day and finished what was left of both, but my manager implied that he wants me to do 1 whole pallet per 5 hour shift once I've gotten used to things.

This was like 8 U-Boats stacked to the top total for both pallets. And maybe 20-30 minutes total each day spent checking the dates whenever I found out of date stuff and had to check all the items for stuff that was bad.

Just checking but is this normal? How many pallets do experienced stockers usually run a day? I think once I actually know where stuff is I could maybe do 3 U-Boats a day but 4 really seems like a stretch.

I'm not new to stocking btw I worked at Walmart for 5 years as an overnight stocker.

Silly thing to gripe about that I'll probably delete later, but I HATED stocking these gummy bear toothbrush holders

These 5 hooks? 1 CASE. Because of how unnecessarily wide they are, I could only fit 5 to a hook. And IMO they are big FOR NO REASON, all that space FOR 1 TOOTHBRUSH. I feel like they could've made the design smaller is all.

Coming to the store after quitting a week ago hits different

Last week my fiance and I both quit (I think in the system the SM put us as fired though) I haven't been to the store since but tonight I needed a couple things and didn't want to drive 25+ minutes to another tree so just went to the one 5 minutes away where I used to work.

I saw most of my people I used to be the manager of. The moment they saw me their faces lit up, one even did a happy dance and run to me to give me a hug.

Since I quit last week the store has basically fallen apart. The store is filthy, go backs everywhere, the case of bang energy drinks that was busted open that I forgot on the water fountain when I was draining them is still there. It doesn't look like anyone's swept in a week.

My people have also told me everything has gone to shit since we left. Our SMs mood is worse, everyone is struggling way worse than before.

I still feel bad leaving them behind but I needed to leave for my mental health.

Going in and seeing everyone's faces light up like that really makes me realize that I did actually have an impact on that store. My SM made it seem like all I did was mess up and not do my job etc etc but based on how my people reacted when they saw me shows me that no. I DID do a good job. These people respected me. These people liked me.

I don't even know what to say right now. The way I'm feeling right now. It's a weird feeling. Not a bad one but one that's making me want to cry happy tears. The past several months I felt like a failure of a manager but tonight proved me wrong. Way way wrong.

Asm I sold a penny item am I gonna get fired?

I have never been written up or anything but today I accidentally sold a penny item and I have seen posts here saying cashiers and asm’s have been fired for this. Will I get fired on the spot for this one mistake? It was not a recalled item it was Easter candy.

Receipt Survey

Just a quick question regarding the feedback survey on the receipt. I fill these out to give kudos to the employees who are all great at my stores. Has any employee actually been given any feedback in the stores from these surveys? Thanks in advance, I did search the sub and didn't see anything about this topic.

Dollar tree tried steeling my phone

Here’s the full text from the screenshot, copied cleanly and exactly as it appears:

---

Dollar tree tried steeling my phone

So me and my fiancé went to dollar tree to get some stuff and I lost my phone. I went back in and asked if they had seen it and they said no. So I went home and tracked it and it said it was at dollar tree. So I called them and asked if they had it and they said no again. So I went back up there and asked again and they said no. So I called the Joplin police department and they came and asked them and they said no. So the officer asked to look at the cameras and they said no. So the officer asked again if they had it and they said no. So the officer said he was going to get a warrant for the cameras and then they magically found it. They said it was in the back and they didn’t know it was back there. I didn’t press charges but I will never go to that dollar tree again. It was the one on 20th maiden ln Joplin mo 64804.

Manager Meetings

Do any of you all have them?

I've TRYING to talk my SM into a weekly or every other 15 minute managers meeting so we're all on the same page. Things she's been telling me to do for months now are not being told the the other ASMs or the MM, and vice verse. I had no idea we weren't allowed to wear black shirts anymore, is just one example.

I mentioned the possibility of a meeting to the SM and she shot it down with 'I don't want to be here anymore than I am.'

So I found a day there was potential for overlap (Truck day) as we are SUPPOSED to work it already (but truthfully it's most commonly me and the stocker that do truck start to finish) but it was STILL shot down.

Why?

What is so bad about a meet up so we can all be on the same page?

Our DM doesn't want us texting each other unless it's an emergency, which is fine, but I spent the ENTIRE weekend post inventory doing the incorrect thing because I was told to do one thing, then the SM and MM were off a few days, and I get back to 'why did you do that?'

Because no one told me the plan had changed. At all. And it's not the first time and I'm not the only one it's happened to. It's not going to be the last if we don't do SOMETHING.

Do any stores have manager meetings? If so, how do I make them happen. This is getting to be a real strain working 16 hours on a thing only to be told it was now the wrong thing to do and 'Sorry, I forgot to tell you. Undo everything you did now and do it right in the next four hours!'

Do these still exist?

I have a small print making business and I would buy these packs all the time cause they’re perfect to make cute sets with, unfortunately lately I haven’t been able to find them ANYWHERE. Are they discontinued?? Please help

compete

I've seen some despicable companies in my day but dollar tree tops them all , my wife has worked for dollar tree in Spokane for 5 years ,promised at least 21 hours a week part time ,the only time she ever received that many was Christmas , now shes lucky to see 8 hours per week ! Know why ? I found out corporate makes the stores compete for hours , thats right , people trying to feed their families and pay their bills have to compete with other stores to get hours , I've been trying to think of something more reprehensible and disgusting but I just can't ! Imagine a store caring so little for their employees they make them compete to sustain their livelihood !!! I always wondered why they had a revolving door for employees now I get it , isn't much point to trying to work at a job where your employer could care less whether you survive or not !!! I don't know where corporations feel they have the right to play with peoples lives like this but it is really shameful ! I have an idea...just set up a fighting pit and people can just fight for their hours !!!!

These DT dupes are really good!

I am obsessed with the Dynamita chips and then saw these at DT yesterday and thought wow only $1.25, why not? I was pleasantly surprised! They are just like the brand name, except they are skinny sticks. I don’t know if they are new but I hope they keep them in stock! ( I also love the Trader Joe’s version but I don’t have one close to me 😞)

It was hinted that I was being considered for an AM role... however I am a convicted felon(burglary) but my conviction is over 10 years old. I passed for associate. What are the chances that I'll pass the background check now? Or should I just be honest about it before moving forward? (California)
