a GOOD Ranger?

I’m going to be playing a one-shot in 5e, and we are level 6. I really want to play a ranger, except I’ve heard how weak they are, and I don’t want to play something that doesn’t bring me joy because I feel like I’m not really doing anything. So, I was wondering if there are any good combinations with feats, weapons, races, etc. I’m going to assume he doesn’t want us to use Variant Human or anything similar to that. I’d also rather play a humanoid or something very close to one, like an elf, for example. So please help with the build idea! Optional features and races do seem to be allowed.

My level 7 Dwarf Battle Smith Artificer has taken the Fey Touched feat at level 4, bumping his INT to 18. The spell he picked, for roleplaying opportunity, was Comprehend Languages. He has never used it since gaining the ability. Last session he got a Helm of Comprehend Languages, rendering his spell choice obsolete. The DM agreed to let me take another spell instead of it and I was wondering what would be the best few options.

The party consists of a Hexblade Warlock (has a weapon that creates Darkness and fights from within that. A Tempest Cleric (who is our main AOE dealer and crowd control), a Beast Master Ranger, with Sharpshooter. My characters role is the frontliner, with his Steel Defender (and homunculus for extra options) who uses Web for some crowd control, but otherwise just bashes enemies in the face. He has a magical weapon that grants cold resistance and 1d4 cold damage per succesful hit and a shield imbued with Repulsion Shield.

In the campaign we are fighting a lot of Undead and are starting to encounter Fiends and stronger Monsters.

The options I am thinking about now are:

- Detect magic, freeing a spell slot for other memorized spells (but doesn't give an extra spell option)

- Hunter's Mark, dealing 1d6 extra damage per attack, for when we fight big 1 on 1 monsters (hex isn't really an option, because Fiends and Undead usually have resistance to necrotic damage)

- Gift of Alacrity (extra 1d8 for initiative for 1 creature)

- Tasha's Hideous Laughter (single target crowd control)

- Command (1 round crowd control, but doesn't require concentration)

- Bane (1d4 subtracted from enemies' savingthrows and attack rolls could be very useful)

So far I am leaning towards Hunter's Mark, but would like some input from you fine people before I make my descision.

What's more frightening? paladin or warlock?

Need a new level 5 character and I wanted to focus on the frightened condition. initially I was going to go conquest paladin but then found out about the undead warlock and thought that may be a fun route. I haven't played paladin or warlock enough to know the best mechanics so some help would be grateful.

PLEASE help me make a disgusting build. LvL 20, dex based if possible, and Single class only.

(Also no necrotic dmg if possible)

We are currently doing the "Tomb of Horrors" campaign/threeshot and I couldnt make it to the 2nd of the three Sessions. I told my dm, that I dont want my character to be used, unless its needed for a check. Aka I stay back multiple rooms, if needed come out, then go back, but not fight whatsoever.

Yesterday, through some friends I found out, thst not only my character got killed(by them and then revived) but also bombarded with fireballs, exhaustion levels and other stuff.

So not only did they use up all my "live saving" items and effects, because we wont get a long rest anymore. But also just basically killed my character cus i'm the only frontline we have, besides a non attacking Paladin.

So since my character will prolly die next Session, what is a super disgusting lvl 20 Single class build I can use. Not Samurai tho.

Okay so I'm running a DND campaign and this one character is meant to be a like millennium+ years old spellcaster who is, in the most literal way, connected and fused with the stars. I want to make them very powerful while keeping the cosmic elements, level and homebrew are completely on the table but race wise I haven't decided yet so I'd prefer if it wasn't super definitive for the build to work.

We're playing in DND 5e, could someone please help or offer advice/inspiration?

Fungal Oathbreaker Paladin 2024

Heya

Looking to multi class a paladin character for a level 9-20 campain.

He was jumped by a follower of an ancient eldritch mold deity when investigating a cult, despite killing it, the paladin was taken over by the deitie's spores and is now controlled by them. This broke their pact, and has granted them more spellcasting abilities. Here's the question(s): What class and subclass do I multiclass as and at what level? Kinda like the idea of a warlock or a sorcerer

Currently level 11. Stats are 16Str 12Dex 14Con 8int 12Wis 8Cha. Rolled stats. Didn’t roll too well lol. Feats I already have are heavy armor master, Crusher and WarCaster. Have light hammer & a warhammer. 1st Time dnd player so don’t know what stats matter at what levels. Using 2014 rules. Unsure of levels 12 and up ASI/Feats. +2 con? +2 Str? Or feat? Any help greatly appreciated.

I am looking to create a character, either divine or Arcane that has a mental link to a library or to anything that has been written down in any manner.

I am thinking a Mind Palace type deal but with a library.

What stats/Classes/Feats should I look inro?

Offensive Powerhouse Build (low level)

Ok so I need advice. I want to create a character who has insane damage output. For this build I want everything offence. So the ideal build would be a build that can do high damage reliably.

Some infos:

- we start the campaign on lvl 3

- the campaign will mostly be pvp and just a bit of pve

- leveling is a bit tricky, so the build should be good for low level (lvl 5- 8)

- can be a caster, but a melee build will probably be stronger, since we can grab sword of wounding very early on.

I thought of this build last year, thinking of finally using it. Just wanted to see if there was anything wrong with it RAW.

I wanted a tank to protect the squishiest or most relevant character on a battle field almost having a similar play style to Yuumi from LoL (jumping to support who needs it the most)

These are my notes from when I first thought of the build:

"This works for any druid but Moon Druid will work best. Due to the ability to cast spells in wild shape and extra temp hp.

  1. Be a druid

  2. get the tough origin feet (optional)

  3. At level four get the Mounted Combatant feat.

  4. Transform into a tiny creature and mount a friend that you want to protect. Now all attack on them can be directed at you and any DEX saves they need could be fully avoided if they succeed the saving throw.

  5. At level five you can now refresh your temp HP using spell slots to wild shape again.

  6. If you multi class into warlock or your DM allows you to use the rune carver feat or the old version of magic initiate you can take Armor of Agathys. Now when hit, you will deal damage.

Pros of multi class warlock, you get a level one spell slots on short rest. You also get an invocation which can be used for advantage of concentrating checks, an upgraded familiar, extra spells, or a summonable weapon. At druid level 5 your extra spell slots can be used for another wild shape

Cons of multi class warlock, loss of spell slots progression, takes longer to get a flying speed. 13 Charisma needed"

So I'm looking for advice on how to build my soulknife rogue that is already lvl4, here's some miscellaneous and relevant information:

*Stats at lvl 4:

-Str 9

-Dex 17

-Con 14

-Int/wis/cha 12

*Like the title said, he's a soulknife rogue, the species is Human with alert and lucky as origins feats + Defensive duelist that I took at lvl 4.

*Our party has a paladin oath of vengeance, a sorcerer of wild magic, a bard of glamour which had multiclassed into warlock. The sorcerer has the musician and inspiring leader feats, the Paladin has the grappler, alert, dueling and interception feats and the bard I don't remember their feats but know they intend to take warcaster next.

*I do intend to make him a full rogue for the epic boon and the 20 level feat, but if you want to advice some multiclass you can still do so anyway, I'd love to hear what one could do.

*Here's a list of feats that I'm thinking about taking next:

-Speedy(for speed)

-Charger(speed and also damage/pushing)

-Athlete (to get up from prone fast, climbing speed)

-Mage Slayer (more spell protection)

-Durable (sounds overpowered to heal mid combat)

-Shulker (for blindsight)

-Sharpshooter (For no disadvantage at high range, and no cover unless total)

-Mounted combattant (only if I can comfortably get a mount, for advantage)

-Grappler (for advantage)

-Sentinel (for easier opportunity attacks)

-For the epic, I'm hesitating between boon of skill (which with this subclasses would make me succeed pretty much any skill check)or boon of night spirit (which I'd take only if I take skulker or get any magic items that gives darkvision in the written campaigns we're doing)
