My level 7 Dwarf Battle Smith Artificer has taken the Fey Touched feat at level 4, bumping his INT to 18. The spell he picked, for roleplaying opportunity, was Comprehend Languages. He has never used it since gaining the ability. Last session he got a Helm of Comprehend Languages, rendering his spell choice obsolete. The DM agreed to let me take another spell instead of it and I was wondering what would be the best few options.
The party consists of a Hexblade Warlock (has a weapon that creates Darkness and fights from within that. A Tempest Cleric (who is our main AOE dealer and crowd control), a Beast Master Ranger, with Sharpshooter. My characters role is the frontliner, with his Steel Defender (and homunculus for extra options) who uses Web for some crowd control, but otherwise just bashes enemies in the face. He has a magical weapon that grants cold resistance and 1d4 cold damage per succesful hit and a shield imbued with Repulsion Shield.
In the campaign we are fighting a lot of Undead and are starting to encounter Fiends and stronger Monsters.
The options I am thinking about now are:
- Detect magic, freeing a spell slot for other memorized spells (but doesn't give an extra spell option)
- Hunter's Mark, dealing 1d6 extra damage per attack, for when we fight big 1 on 1 monsters (hex isn't really an option, because Fiends and Undead usually have resistance to necrotic damage)
- Gift of Alacrity (extra 1d8 for initiative for 1 creature)
- Tasha's Hideous Laughter (single target crowd control)
- Command (1 round crowd control, but doesn't require concentration)
- Bane (1d4 subtracted from enemies' savingthrows and attack rolls could be very useful)
So far I am leaning towards Hunter's Mark, but would like some input from you fine people before I make my descision.
