Half-size paper solutions?

I’m one of those people who buys supplies for the dopamine, then takes years to incorporate them into my routine. I have a half-size journal (the leather one from Staples) but I’m out of paper. As luck would have it, I also own a Discbound punch! I have blank white 8.5x11 printer paper.

And I’m thinking about actually journaling again.

I’m now debating my options:

  1. Fold paper almost in half with an extra lip for the punch area. Each page unfolds. Fun but maybe a lot of pressure to fill the insides?

  2. Cut each piece of paper in half before punching. Might be crooked. Even using a large industrial paper cutter, it’s hard to get exact.

  3. Tearing each piece of paper in half after folding. Soft edge looks cool but might also look sloppy and feel less crisp than I want.

  4. Buy journal inserts. No clue where to start looking.

  5. [Insert your suggestion here.]

Appreciate any advice!

This is what 12 months of journaling looks like for me. 2 May 25 through to 2 May 26 with plenty of ups and downs.

2 William Hannah notebooks to be archived in due course.

All sorts of pens and inks used: last entry being in Edelstein Onyx with an Aurora 88 to mark Swindon Town’s defeat at home to Chesterfield FC. Do not go gentle into that good night….

Would you reccomend a discbound for school?

Hello! I'm new to discbounds and after a bit of research, I've found that this mainly accomodates journal practices.

I'm a HUGE organising girlie, and staple bound notebooks are just really not my thing for school because I just have this itching desire to organise things a certain way. My alternative at the moment is writing on refill paper and stapling it or putting it in my folder organizer which is such a hassle.

I would love to use discbound but my problem is that maybe its not practical for school? (For context, I'm in my last year of highschool and I intend to carry this organising trait of mine to University 😅) Cost wise and in terms of being efficient at note taking. Let me know what you think though!

Looking to start disc bound planner. Looking for US letter size leather/linen cover.

As said above. I am finding a TON of laminated covers. I would really prefer a linen/embroidered type cover but willing to consider leather as well. Everything I'm seeing are in many sizes but not US letter size. Any recommendations on where to look specifically? Or reasons why you might prefer laminated?

Where to buy covers that aren’t the same size as the paper and aren’t bland plain.

Can I make my own? Or find some that don’t cost the earth as I want to buy quite a few.
I’ve found covers that are plain colour
Or that are the same size as the paper inside.
But that doesn’t allow for plastic wallets or dividers then.
Anyone recommend
In the uk

Etsy all seem to want a fortune …
I’m willing and able to make my own but also can’t seem to find material to do so.

Early last year, Levenger had a stunning embroidered discbound cover, which is now discontinued. I've been waiting to see if they would stock a similar product and emailed them, but it seems I'm out of luck, unfortunately.

Does anyone have any suggestions for pretty/designed discbound covers? I've been holding off on this purchase in hopes of it coming back, but now I really need a notebook. I'm hoping to not get a plastic one

edit: I am thinking something from Inkwell press but always open but I'd love suggestions, seeing as some brands are lesser known (also I want around a5 size but inkwell's are bigger)

2nd edit: damn this place charges like min $40 usd to ship to canada which is kinda annoying

I see how people make discbound work well for them. So why did it never work for me? Was it the quality of the bought inserts that failed?

Basically, as per the questions in the title.

Further information was that I bought it as a cover, dividers, discs (swapped for the next size up FOC by the seller), paper and planner sections. All from the same Etsy maker.

The paper was actually pretty good to write on and was something like 100 to 120gsm. It all looked like it would work well for me but it failed on one very basic level. The tabs at the holes folded not bent when removed and replaced a few times. A couple of times of taking them out the tabs would start to snap off. That meant it was useless for me.

How do you people find your paper holds up to the key benefits of the system? Namely the fact you can remove the pages and replace them repeatedly.

I wonder whether it's the paper I had, was it too stiff and heavy? I had an Aroma notebook from years ago but it's thinner paper and while the tabs bent they didn't fold or snap off. The only problem was they aren't easy to get in the UK and the sizes are non standard paper sizes.

So what is a good UK supplier of paper and professional looking planning / diary sections? Should I reconsider using a discbound again with a different source for the infills?

Made an insert for my Disc Notebook to carry the X4 eReader using the supplied metal rings.

Shown here is my A7 and A6 disc notebook; I can move the insert to my A5 and A4 notebooks as needed.
