I got screwed, need help

Unfortunately the original motor for this car (d16y8) blew a piston rod cap out of the block. Had it towed to a shop. They put a new engine in it. Aaaand they replaced it with what I believe is a non vtec d15b...disappointing. Not to mention it burns oil like a bitch, even after replacing the pcv valve which was a problem but not the problem. They didn't change the computer, harness, or even just tune it. They just looped the circuit as shown in photo. I took it back, and they said they would pay to get it tuned. But the tuner said they need to fix an underlying issue before they tune, which will cost a bunch and i doubt the shop will pay for that. So i dont know if I should get it tuned and pour more into this car or find a matching computer and harness and try to do it myself?

Sadly leaving this group

Sunday driving my del sol to an errand, there was a light rain that slicked the road. Tires lost their grip on a tight curve and I skidded into a guard rail at about 15-20 mph. Not a bruise on me, airbag didn’t deploy. But the front corner & hood staved in. Estimated $10k to repair.

I have to let her go.

I’m heartbroken. I bought my 1993 del sol si new when the car first arrived in the US. She was my everyday driving car until I became a Dad & we needed a sedan. We decided to keep the del sol as a weekend fun car.

As a toddler, my daughter loved going around the neighborhood in the “little blue car”. I could put her car seat in it and take her on little rides because there was no passenger side air bag. She’s in her 20’s now and made me promise to never sell it so she could have it someday. I haven’t had the heart to break the news to her yet.

For 34 years and 163,000 miles I have driven, taken car of, and loved that car. This morning I’m going to the collision center to get my stuff out of it and say goodbye.

Edit: Thanks everyone for the kind support.

Those of you wanting pics… I just couldn’t. My last pics of this car will not be of her wrecked.

I’m not a mechanic at all. I believe the car is fixable, but not by me. Looking at the damage, everything on the front passenger corner plus the hood would have to be replaced. Hard to say if there’s damage to the underlying frame or not, which is where the costs would really be jacked up. But even if it cost only half that worst-case scenario, I’d have to let it go.

Those of you who wanted to track it down for yourselves, it’s now with Shorty’s Used Auto Parts in Bridgeport PA.

1995 Chameleon Del Sol

Super random. Trying to track down my old 1995 DelSol. I had to sell it when we had kids. I sold it in 2012 in PA. I think the guy I sold it too ran it through carriage trade auto auction in 2015/16 1995 SI. SOHC. Turbo. Intercooler. Love to find that car again. Just a shot in the dark. Thanks guys.

Make a wish! Six Del Sols in One Place!

As the title states, we managed to get enough folks to come out with their del sols last night. It’s already hard to run into another one already, let alone this!

What part is this?

Hello, while trying to replace the right rear ABS sensor, the mechanic found that the bolt is snapped off inside this part. I’m having a hard time identifying exactly what part this is so I can find a replacement. Could you help me? European Del Sol Esi with ABS, 1998.

d16z6 spark plug tube seals

me and my mom recently painted my valve cover on my 95’ del sol si, we got a new gasket with all the new grommets and stuff but she put these tube seals back on wrong. she put them on the outside instead of the inside and swears thats how its supposed to be and that its fine, even though when we first took off the cover the seals were on the inside like they were supposed to be. (refer to last photo)

instead of helping to fix it she got offended when i told her they were wrong and itll get oil into my spark plug wells, so now im putting them back how theyre supposed to be but i am struggling, is there a trick to this? ive never done this before so i am new at this.

ive attached photos to explain more, i just didnt understand that if they were meant to go on the inside of the VC how theyd (the seal) even work if they were just sitting on-top of it. i have heard this certain seal be called a couple different things so i hope the photos help if i am calling it something different. i believe the way they were originally is the correct way but i dont know too much about it, any advice or tips will help

93 Del Sol S restoration project

Well, here's how the del sol restoration is going. Shes only got 64k original miles. Carfax showed record of the original owner taking her to the dealership for regular maintenance up until 2 years ago, where she then hopped between a couple people before landing with me. I had basically a complete chassis refresh done. Every bit of brake systems, suspension, steering, and undercarriage that can be new is new. About 150hrs of body work cutting out rust, straightening body panels, dent and ding repair, and new paint job to include jambs, trunk and engine bay (paint is Jaguar's Racing Green Metallic, paint code HGZ). Complete exhaust system. Engine and ignition refresh with all new seals, top to bottom. AC refresh (had a hell of a time tracking down a shop that'd still do r12 lol).

On the schedule to get the seats professionally reupholstered.

About the only thing im considering now is doing a very small fast spool turbo (Garrett GT2554R) at about 6lbs boost just to get her a bit more on par with modern day performance standards.

95 Del Sol S Vacuum Tube

So I was changing my clutch last weekend and realized there is a vacuum hose that I have no idea where it goes to. Looked at some guides and diagrams but haven’t found anything. I have just a basic Del Sol S, nothing fancy or modded (except the clutch I replaced). Does anyone know where this tube goes to? I’m pretty sure this is why it sputters a lot when I hit the gas too hard

New to the group and help with 3rd break light.

Hey! New to this group and was looking for some help with my third break light. I have a lot of history with this particular del sol (sol it a year ago and just bought it back) and its break light keeps falling down. I’ve never had this issue before or with my other sol. Don’t know where it connects back at all. Pic of the del sol and what’s going on as well. Any advice is appreciated!!

Hello everyone. This is my del sol. It’s a 1994 regular S with the 1.5L engine ( 😞). Currently it’s pretty good just needs its new gasket seals, tire alignment and it’s good. But I want to know what I should do next on it? It has an AC and power steering delete. It was done by the previous owner. But I really want this thing to keep up with other cars on the freeway, it had a hard time even staying at 65 mph. Any advice?

Here’s things I’ve done:

AEM cool air intake
New exhaust system
New catalytic
New alternator
New battery
Hood and latch replaced

My beloved del Sol is starting to show its age. It leaks water into the trunk. The seals are drying out and it’s noisy as hell. One exterior door handle no longer works, and one window regulator is shot. The paint is getting splotchy. Mechanically, it’s running great at almost 230k miles.

But I can’t find the things I need to make it a practical car. I use it as my commuter - a job it frankly isn’t good at but I like driving it. I’m stuck with eBay for used window regulators. Cheap black plastic door handles. No replacement seals. I put about 20k miles per year. Is there a secret source for reliable parts to keep these things more than just sunny day cruisers? I’d hate to sell it, but I’d also like to not have to take my big weekend truck on my long commute every time it might rain.

I know that’s what comes with driving a now vintage car. It’s funny to think about how when I was in high school when these were still being made, my dad bought a ‘66 Chevelle. My car now is older than that was when he got it. But he didn’t have any problem sourcing parts for his car. I think even now you’d have a better time finding parts for his Chevelle than for a del Sol.

Broken locks

The locks on my 93 del sol si work but only with the key on the outside, My driver side door can be locked from the inside but only when the car is on but the passenger door won’t lock or unlock from inside and moves with the door handle also the master lock on the driver side doesn’t work, I wanted to see if anyone knew what was up before i have to take off the panels and see what’s up.
