My balcony garden in Dehradun

In spite of whatever negative is happening in Dehradun....that we are getting to know via news on almost every alternative day....there is one thing that still keeps are same is definitely the environment around us.... the pristine Doon valley at certain corners where we are in this is a glimpse from my home where I have sort of tribe to maintain a balcony Garden full of bougainvillea rose.... then some hibiscus and butterfly pea flower.... I am also doing a little bit of a kitchen garden thing when it's in full bloom....will definitely show here... 💛

Are UP bois scared?

Interesting encounter:

I was out grabbing a beer alone in a local bar in Dehradun. This bar isnt well known and i have been visiting it since 2018- so i know the staff.

A guy walked in ordered beer and started talking loudly on phone. His language showed he was from UP (typical loud speaker enabled while on call and telling the other part he was his BHAI along with UP dialect ).

While i was leaving, i asked him if he was from Up-the bro went in defence mode- telling he has living in Dehradun before it was Uttarakhand. Also mentioned he has business in UAE and Nepal where he forces other people to talk in his language (i am assuming Hindi ) and he doesn’t talk in English.

My closing words were- aap dusro ko apni language force krte ho aur humari seedhi language nhi bolte.

I also judged him getting on defence as soon as i mentioned i was from Uttarakhand

My question: are Up guys somewhat scared now if they are alone? If so, maybe they will behave?

Has anyone else visited this temple?

Advice, homecoming after 10 years !

Hello people of Dehradun, how’s it going?

I’m finally heading back home after almost 10 years, and honestly, it feels a bit surreal. The Dehradun I left behind was a quiet, laid-back town, the kind where weekends meant aimless drives towards Mussoorie.

Back then, Piccolo and Marigold were the spots on Rajpur Road, and going to Orchard felt like a proper plan you made with friends. Cafés were limited, everything shut early, and nightlife basically didn’t exist.

From what I’ve been seeing on this sub and across social media, it looks like the city has completely transformed especially Rajpur Road, which now seems packed with cafés, bars, and restaurants. It almost feels like Doon has grown into a proper mini city rather than the sleepy town I remember.

I’ll be in Dehradun for about 3 weeks, so I want to make the most of it both in terms of nostalgia and discovering what’s new.

What I’m looking for:

The best cafés right now (good coffee)

Restaurants that are actually worth it (any cuisine)

Places that are considered the talk of the town

Good breakfast/brunch spots

Any must-visit newer places around Rajpur, Old Mussoorie Road, or nearby

Also curious about:

Are there still pockets of the old Doon vibe, or has that mostly disappeared?

Cheers

tldr;

Coming back to Dehradun after 10 years. Last I remember: Piccolo, Marigold, Orchard days. Now it looks like Rajpur Road is full of cafés and nightlife.

In town for 3 weeks — need:

Best cafés & restaurants

What’s actually worth it vs hype

What’s changed in the city.

Any old-school spots still worth revisiting.

Film / Theatre Clubs of Dehradun

Hello folks! I recently shifted to Dehradun and wish to be a part of something creatively satisfying. I’d be happy if you could suggest a film or theatre group active in the city.

Therapist recommendations in the city

I’m looking for recommendations for a good trauma-informed therapist (preferably female) in Dehradun. This is for someone close to me who experienced childhood sexual abuse and is still struggling with:

nightmares

difficulty sleeping

body shaking/shivering at night

It has been more than 10 years, and we’re now actively trying to get proper help. If anyone knows a qualified psychologist/psychiatrist experienced in PTSD or sexual trauma, please share recommendations (personal experiences would be really helpful).

Thanks in advance.

Trip to Harsil

I am planning a trip to Harsil via Uttarkashi in the 3rd week of April. What are my options to travel to Uttarkashi on the same day of getting down at Dehradun railway station at 6am by Kota-Ddn Ac express from Delhi. Prefer shared taxi.

Any pointers would be of great help. Also need recommendations for stay at harsil.
