r/DeadIsland2
How do you rank the writing of these games from least bad to most bad?
Dead island vibes
The posters for “send help” looks like the aesthetic from dead island or is it just me?
I just finished the game
I grew up with DI, mostly watching my cousins play it late at night, completely terrified but totally fascinated. Sometimes they’d let me hold the controller (iykyk). Later on, I bought a bundle with the original game and Riptide.
For a long time, it was my comfort game. I never actually finished the story, never really crafted weapons or even properly leveled up my skills : I’d just log in, kill a few zombies with the girl in the red skirt and her katana (I think?), and as soon as I got too scared, I’d quit. There was always this cozy stressful little feeling to it that reminded me of my childhood and those late nights plays.
Recently Dead Island 2 was really cheap on Steam, so I bought it out of curiosity, never expecting to like it or even finish it (I never finish my games). But wow, I ended up loving it and completely hooked.
I got really invested in the story, which was surprisingly good, and the characters are genuinely likable : you really grow attached to them. I loved that “Who Do You Voodoo, Bitch?” guy was included. The actress, her assistant, their whole crew, Amanda Styles (though her ending shocked me and I didn’t want that for her), Rikky ♥️…
The locations are awesome and the graphics are gorgeous. The semi-open world structure also helps a lot because you never feel too lost, and it actually makes exploration enjoyable instead of just stressful (at least for me).
The gore system and all the different zombie types are so satisfying ♥️. The variety of weapons and unique skills (the cards art is immaculate) is great too (I picked Jacob as my Slayer). The game’s aesthetic is beautiful : the art style, posters, graffiti, street art, all of it….
I finished the game and now all I have left are the Steam achievements (I still need to complete two challenge guides) and the DLC achievements. I’m waiting for the next Steam sale to buy the DLCs, and then I’ll replay the game in NG+ to get every achievement.
Anyway, it’s definitely become one of my favorite zombie games ever (alongside Telltale’s The Walking Dead).
Short but sweet zombie game. A true work of art
What is scarier than 2 vicious butchers and 3 mutators and 2 whippers 💀because it was not easy dealing with that Shi
I was minding my own business wen this Shi happened 😭✌️
The other Slayers
So I just finished my first playthrough with Ryan and I wanna ask. What happened to the other slayers in the character selection screen? Are they dead or just went their seperate ways?
In Dead Island 1, it's revealed that while you play on your own, the story is written wherein all the Heroes (Sam B, Purna, Xian Mei, and Logan) all move together at once. Hence they're all featured together in the cutscenes.
Meanwhile, in Riptide, if you're playing Solo, the other characters hang back and can be interacted with at the base. They basically choose to stay behind and protect the non-immune.
Anyone up to help me with the 2 online trophies? Just need them for the plat
Any help is appreciated:)
Map Types
Just curious, but which map type do you prefer: The Dead Island/Dead Island Riptide maps, where the whole map is blacked out and is slowly uncovered as you explore the place, and you can place navpoints anywhere on it. Or do you prefer the Dead Island 2 maps, where you can see everything and know exactly where to go via the icons(including knowing what they are about) but can only place navpoints on those locations?
Realizing I've been playing the game wrong...
So, I love this game. I've done a bunch of playthroughs (especially with Dani, and recently a lot with Amy. She's secretly OP). The first time I ran through it, I remember being super interested in the storyline, and remaining pretty focused on that. I did a few side missions here and there (usually when I wanted to go for better gear), but ignored a lot of them. After seeing that everything stays leveled for your level, I always figured "screw it. Go back at a high lvl so even the crap rewards can sell for more". It just recently dawned on me that there were probably a few interactions I missed out on, this way. Well, I'm currently doing my first Bruno playthrough friend. So, I decided to play through this one like it's DI1 (at least, earlier in the game). Do everything available, as it becomes available. Doing this, I'm realizing I missed SO MANY dialogues and NPC interactions!!! I feel so cheated!! Fortunately, most of my current characters still have NG+ to start. But, the others are going to have to do a playthrough like this so I can get all of their interactions too!
A big question
is it me or that the final boss where you have to go to the club on SOLA is a pain in the ass because ive been attempting to try and beat it and im on new game + and with the overpowered weapons it aint doing as much damage
Is this normal?
Both a question and a meme, i laughed a lot when this happend XD (PS5 btw)
Spawn rate fix?
I already googled up mods, but couldn't find any.. is there any solution to the absurd spawn rate of zombies? Whenever I turn my back on any point there's a new zombie. This kind of destroys the immersion for me because it often results in me running past everyone instead.
Zombie Respawn Speed
Is there a way to tone down the zombie respawn speed ? I'm not at all against refreshing enemies in a game where it's all about seeing how far you can punt the undead with a baseball bat, but they're respawning so fast it's a bit absurd. I can clear a street, walk up some stairs, look down, and the exact same zombies I just killed are back in their place, searching the same trash cans or eating the same corpse. I can enter the building, look back, and the courtyard I just cleared to get in is full again.
I get that Hell-A has the motherlode of zombie population, and the charm of the game is the bloodbath, but these guys respawn so fast it feels like there's an army of ninjas constantly sneaking in zombies behind me the second my back is turned.
Missing the first games TBH
I do miss Dead Island 1 and Riptide, those were my childhood. I still really wanna know how the full version Dead Island 2 would've been like from that other team, although there's a dev build for it which it kinda does give me old Dead Island vibes, and that's what I miss, I mean it was supposed to be released years ago anyways so that's for the vibes as well, but man I wanna know if anyone can suggest some good mods for Dead Island 1 and Riptide???
The Hellfire Revenant. Attempting to get Shoulda Stayed Dead achievement.
So I started my first NG+ run & I died once to the Hellfire. I respawned & he didn't. I also fought the Maw, died, then killed it bc thankfully he didn't despawn. Can I never fight the Hellfire again in this playthrough?
first time playing and Im only missing these 4 map markers in Ocean Avenue/base game. are these tied to one of the DLCs having content here or is my save glitched?
Ive checked the whole map for them and even the guides confirms I have everything and only this map has this problem. Im playing it as spoiler free as I can, so I dont know if we come back here for missions
only thing anormal in this map is my Party Starter chest icon glitched even after I completed it with no problems
Steam: COOP Achievements
Hey there,
I'm currently trying to get all the achievements for Dead Island 2. I've completed the two other co-op achievements but need to complete 5 quests (story or side) with someone.
-Slayer Squad: Complete any 5 quests in co-op.
If anyone could help me out with this achievements it would be much appreciated.
