Only Job

Is this anybody else’s only job? It is for me and although I know that’s not great, it’s definitely a blessing to have regardless. However it is hard when you talk to people and they ask what you do because a lot of people don’t like the kind of work we do so I kinda have to lie and say I just don’t have a job, which I’m really not lying about since this is not a formal job. And then I feel like they see me as a loser. But I just don’t feel capable/able to get a job, especially full time, mainly due to a health issue I’m dealing with that’s wearing me down and would affect my performance, but also due to the job market just being so competitive and not many jobs being open compared to the number of people applying. Anyone else relate?

Is the acceptance rate really 2%?

Is it cuz everyone talks about DA on here and that's why it feels like the acceptance rate is higher...? 2% feels really low if they also have 100,000 contractors. I'm just curious

I’ve been a worker for over a year now, and done hundreds of tasks. Was I accepted?

Ive been working for DA for well over a year, racking up tons of tasks and pay. Does this mean they’ve accepted me to the platform? What steps do I need to take next? Why is my urine red?

Drought complaints.

Wish people would stop complaining about only having 6/7 projects instead of their usual 80 etc. At least you still have some work you can be getting on with 🤷🏻‍♂️

Also, the amount of posts re feedback where some just can't accept any sort of constructive criticism, because they've convinced themselves their work was outstanding. Defo setting yourselves up to be cooked with that attitude.

Mini rant over. Sorry.

If this is your main source of income, what do you do during droughts?

I understand that gig work is unreliable blah blah blah. However, I’m in a weird transition period in my life and a permanent job doesn’t make sense for me right now. I’ve had no work on DA for over three weeks. I’ve been Doordashing during the drought to try to bring in some kind of money. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

how long has your drought been?

let me know how long you’ve been in a drought or if you’re in one at all. also include how long you’ve been on the platform. trying not to panic. 3 weeks of almost nothing. been here for 3 years.

Co-working?

I’m just curious guys, Cus there’s so many of us but I’ve never ran into someone else who does this job. Does anyone like co-work with other annotators? I usually work from coffee shops and often think it would be so nice to have pseudo-colleagues that you could almost like soundboard projects with? (If that’s allowed idk ahaha)

I’m in a big city and when I see someone on a laptop I always think “could they be doing my R&R?” lol

Edit- rookie trainers, ignore some of the comments in this thread, you can in fact work “wherever you want” (as it says on the DA homepage) BUT if u are permanently relocating abroad, deffo update your profile with your new country!

Pink box of frustration

So the drought has now hit me as well. I've got a dozen projects all related to a specific project family I can't really do for.....reasons

There's one there that requires a paid subscription and a metric fuck ton of work and subject matter expertise I don't have

And then everyone's favorite river of despair.....however when I click on these I get the pink box that says no tasks to work on despite them still being present on the dashboard.

This is beyond frustrating

Got my feedback, curious about their breakdown of %

I have a feeling their (outstanding = top 10%, excellent = top 25%) was just written copy without data, but maybe I'm just being a sore loser. I got Excellent, and like others I've read about, their "room for improvement" section is mostly vague criticism whereas the "strengths" section had actual comments from reviewers. Thinking the outstanding tier is reserved for people who had maybe 1-2 issues on reviews over a large sample size within 30 days? My guess is excellent is more like 10%, and outstanding more like 1%, but who knows. Curious if anyone here has gotten outstanding from the review, and how many hours they work on average on DA in a week if so.

Oh and one more thing, for anyone who feels bad about their rating. Reviewers can be wrong too; they can mark your work as having issues even if there weren't any. I've probably made that mistake as well. The AI is just tabulating all reviews done of your work and spitting out a score. Bit of luck involved there too. Not to say you shouldn't take the feedback seriously, nobody's perfect, but this is like the pilot program of a review system so it's gonna be a bit shallow. Better than nothing though!

Escape Hatch -> several less projects on dash

I spent a considerable amount of time on a task and couldn’t get the failure split the project was targeting (both models failed consistently after lots of prompt changes, so no split). I used the escape hatch, which I NEVER do, and submitted because I really didn’t want to lose that much time. When I got back to the dash, several of the projects I work on regularly were no longer there, and haven’t been since. Is that a penalty for using the escape hatch/have I likely been dropped from those (unrelated) projects?

$50/hr projects come at the worst times

Tell me why I’m clocking in an 8 hour day for $35/hr just to get hit with a $50/hr project at the end of the day. Why can’t they just drop this stuff in the morning 😭

Question on availability

Howdy friends,

I joined DAT a couple of days ago. I did the initial assessment and seem to have passed. I had some projects listed and some qualifications to do. So I did them. In all, earned about $120 with just a couple of hours of work. I was excited. But since clearing out those jobs and doing the qualifications, I haven't seen any more jobs posted.

Did I not pass my qualifications, or is this just a slow time?

R&Rs

It kind of blows my mind that some workers do not follow the directions of the task at all. I can understand sometimes the ratings can be tricky and ambiguous, and some projects certainly can be tricky, but to not follow the directions of the task that is bolded, highlighted, big font, and explained well in detail. It just blows my mind, lol.

Accidentally opened coding qual

So I was being nosey and opened the coding qual… I had planned to learn coding at some point in the future. I wanted to peek at the qualification and assumed I could exit work mode like other qualifications.
I now know you cannot. The good thing is I have 3 months. Is 3 months long enough to become familiar enough to pass the qualification and then refrain from the tasks until I develop more skills, or should I just opt out?

If it’s feasible, what do you recommend as pathway to passing the qualification?

Room for improvement tier 😔

I finally got the feed back and my overall rating was room for improvement and I'm sad about it 😔 one of the things I didn't realize was required or that reviewers would need to do for submissions on this project and so I can easily start doing it. The other two areas to improve noted inconsistencies in my ratings and that I occasionally need to explain more about my ratings. I'm really glad for the feedback but it's hard not to feel like a huge idiot or like I'm not good enough to be on the platform. I guess at least I didn't post a screenshot asking if I'm cooked 😅
