Just appreciating these colorful beauties while the sun sets. I hesitated with ranunculus and anemone my first year growing because I heard they were trickier but I’m so glad I started growing them!
Harvested a couple tulip bouquets from my garden. I can only bear to cut them when it's about to rain and the tulips are already on their way out... So I don't get much vase life but it's still beautiful.
I grew gudoshnik double and akebono for the first time this year and love them. The dark purple palmyra tulips are double tulips but came back from last year and even multiplied in my garden! So I think I'll also leave all the new double tulips in the ground this year again.
I first heard about these insane Japanese pansies a couple years ago- and finally got my hands on both the Midnight and Antoinette series from two nurseries in my area! Seeds are not currently available in the US. Plugs only via a couple wholesalers who supply nurseries.
My white whale. I haven't been this excited about a flower in my life 😍
My first year with yellows! I have a whole bunch of mystery tulips that are still yet to show their blooms…. Can’t wait to see what shows up.
I love the colors but the stem length is so short! I’m thinking of just pressing them if the stems don’t get longer. I read that growing them next to sweet peas helps them have a better stem length so I’ll have to try that next year. Have any of you had any luck using them in arrangements?
Guys it's lilac season ❤️ And the clematis next door is blooming. This is my favourite season of all! I have two 4 meter tall lilacs in my garden and I make sure to pick some every single day.
Hyacinths, tulips, lilacs, clematis. I am leaving the daffodils to slime off separately and I will add them tomorrow.
Please be kind I'm totally new to this! I'm in 9b/10a, Phoenix Metro area.
On a whim I decided to grow cut flowers this year. Did a miniscule amount of research and decided on African marigolds, zinnias, cosmos, snapdragons, and carnations. Didn't plan the bed very well I think. Zinnias and cosmos seem to be doing ok? At least they're making flowers.
I have questions- I read that I'm supposed to cut back a bit when I cut zinnias and cosmos so they grow better and not leave the flowers on the plant too long. Is this really the case? I feel like I'm trying to battle Hydra with my cosmos.
Also, my marigolds, snapdragons and carnations are taking much longer than the seed packet said they'd take to bloom. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. We've had some early heat this year, could this be causing slow growth? I read they like the heat so I'm not sure what's going on.
The bed gets morning sun, filtered midday sun, and afternoon shade. I soak plants in the morning and that's it. Sometimes I go out with a watering can in the morning and touch up any areas that look particularly dry.
My watering system broke and had excessively high pressure for a day when I had just sowed the seeds so there was quite a bit of mix-ups and seeds not exactly where I wanted them. I tried to move some plants around for better airflow but wasn't sure how big a deal the current layout is.
I would love some feedback on how to improve, either what I can do now or what I should change for next year.
Thanks so much!
The tulips and daffodils are finally blooming! I have Replete, Obdam and Bridal Crown as well as the Salmon van Eijk tulips. It was a long cold winter in the north and everything is 3 weeks late, but here we are! I managed to forget what I planted in the autumn so everything is a surprise to me lol. I'm leaving the daffodils to slime off for a day before I arrange them with the other flowers.
Sorry got rid of my ugly mug from the last post 😂
I’m very new to cut flowers and decided as an experiment to plant some snaps from seedlings this past fall (zone 7b polar vortex winter ensued). I thought they were all dead and now I’m amazed at what’s happening
What do my flowers need? Feel like they haven’t been growin taller in the past few weeks. Should I fertilize? I’m located in Tennessee
This is the very first year I’ve been able to have a small garden on my balcony. I planted some ranunculus and anemone. This morning, I cut my very first ranunculus flower. 😍
I have thousands of Lily of the Valley in my woods. I saw on Tik tok people sell them for insane prices. But I’m assuming that’s wholesale out of season prices. Does anyone have experience selling when it’s in season locally?
What have you sold for?
🐿️🐿️What advice do you all have for dealing with relentless squirrels? They have dug up all of my beds. They have destroyed all my marigold seeds twice now. I finally got a few established seedlings and they dug those up. They’ve destroyed my zinnia bed as well, and those are my Johnny seeds so I’m pretty upset. I have snaps to plant out this weekend and I’m too scared now! I’m starting to think violent thoughts about them 😂 I have tried cinnamon with no luck. I can try to cage my raised zinnia bed but all my marigolds are in landscape beds that I can’t cage realistically. Any tips would be helpful! 🐿️
Not looking so good. Do you think something is munching them?
