Web & Windows update is out!

Web & Windows update is out!

We've been working hard to significantly improve Craft on Web and Windows. This release is the first step in a broader push to raise the overall quality of Craft across every platform, expect more to follow.

It brings personalization, performance, and polish: new tabs open faster, memory usage is smarter, a new in-app update banner keeps you current, and we've fixed a long list of keyboard, sync, and editor issues, including a major fix for Dvorak, QWERTZ, and AZERTY layouts.

Highlights

  • Faster, smoother app: New tabs open noticeably quicker thanks to a pre-warmed view. Idle background tabs are auto-released after 10 minutes to keep memory in check.
  • In-app updates: A new update banner appears when an update is ready, plus a manual Check for updates button in the About section.
  • Daily-note date navigator: A new pill control lets you jump between days quickly.
  • Quicker navigation: "Open in new tab" is now available in folder and shared-with-me menus, and every document card has a handy Copy link action.
  • Cross-tab sync: Language, theme, and "What's New" dismissal now stay in sync across all your open tabs.
  • Big keyboard fix: Letter shortcuts and Cmd+. / Cmd+/ now work correctly on Dvorak, QWERTZ, AZERTY, and other non-US keyboard layouts.
  • Personalize your accent color: Pick any accent color and watch it flow through the editor: links, selection, drag highlights, the daily-note "Today" header, and icon badges all adapt automatically. Dark mode keeps everything readable, even on bright accents.

Editor improvements

  • Pasting into a table cell now lands inside the cell instead of below the table
  • Single-click no longer toggles edit/select on empty table cells
  • Improved formula editing in tables
  • New visible-section indicator in the Table of Contents sidebar
  • Smoother sidebar animations and tighter row spacing
  • Fixed cover image clashing with content in wide page layout
  • Select block on right-click

Collections

  • Fixed SUM aggregation precision and grouped-calculation scope
  • Kanban: fixed infinite render loop in group toggles and card insertion with duplicated column names
  • Faster gallery card opening on fast double-click
  • Better theming in popups and menus

Sync & stability

  • More reliable cross-tab logout and restored Windows context menu
  • Fixed clipping on maximized windows
  • Folder move-to-root sync and root folder ordering fixed
  • Tab state survives disk errors gracefully, no more crashes on low disk space
  • Fewer memory leaks and render loops throughout the editor

Is OCR still coming to Craft

Last year (I think) it was stated OCR was coming, what arrived was an ai feature that isn’t really ocr in the sense understood for notes and search. Is actual OCR, like Evernote level OCR something that is planned for documents or is now is good as that will be?

Hey everyone,

Let me share what we've been working on these past few weeks, and what's coming in the next few months. We're doubling down on some of the core aspects of Craft to make them better: Task Management, Collections, Reminders, Search, and Performance.

We've always been proud of our engaged community that helps us make Craft better alongside the team. We read all the posts and feedback, and they directly shape our plans. In the coming months we'll address many of the points you've raised.

I do hope in the coming months we will address many of the valid points that you shared with us.

Here's a quick glance at what we are planning to ship in the next 6–8 weeks:

  • Early next week: better sidebar customization, Reminders improvements, and some smaller fixes
  • 2–3 weeks: Collections improvements (especially on iPhone), and wrapping up our Craft Assistant push: BYOK (bring your own key), better Apple Foundation Models support, and additional QoL improvements (with usage improvements if we can fit them in)
  • ~4 weeks: first version of the All Tasks View shared with the beta community
  • in 5-6 weeks: first set of performance related improvements (app open, doc opens, tab switching, etc.)

We'll also share more about what we're planning for the rest of the year in about a month.

One last thing, your feedback is genuinely important and always welcome; it's a key input into how we shape the roadmap. At the same time, we won't be able to ship everything in the next release, so if you don't see your suggestion yet, it doesn't mean we're not listening.

Thanks for being on this journey with us, and happy Sunday!

Would've given up on Craft if it wasn't for the MCP server. Love the mobile and iPad app, always have. But now with AI in the mix, I'm using Craft as a layer alongside Todoist and Google Drive,. Claude orchestrates across all of it.

Here's my setup:

  1. Craft = the knowledge layer. Where I think. Notes, principles, book highlights, trip plans, recipes, app ideas. Folders mirror my life areas — Health, Home, Relationships, Ventures, Personal Finance, Experiences & Travel, Knowledge. Daily Notes for journaling.
  2. Todoist = the action system. Same life areas as craft. Don't use craft for task but would be amazing to integrate stuff captured and integrate it here.
  3. Cowork = the operating system. A folder of CLAUDE.md and MEMORY.md files that tells Claude how I work, what's where. Each life area gets a "workstation" — basically a desk.

One big thing is synchronizing all my life areas across Google Drive, Todoist, Craft. Same taxonomy everywhere.

Anyone else playing around with AI as the orchestrator and Craft as a knowlede layer? Really cool stuff. Feels like a novelty right now, not sure if its really making me productivty lo.

Even if you just use the MCP to organize Craft then doing more than 90% of people.

Using Craft as a brains-dump

I keep dreaming of a workflow that would make Craft the perfect brain-dump app and second-brain system. It already has many of the right building blocks, but the connections and automation between them still feel limited.

My ideal workflow would look something like this:

- I quickly capture anything:

- web links

- screenshots

- voice memos

- tasks

- reminders

- quick thoughts

- Everything goes straight into a universal inbox with minimal friction.

- Later, during processing, I add tags, properties, or relations.

- Based on those tags/properties, items are then automatically collected into:

- folders

- collections

- dashboards

- documents

- project spaces

At the moment, Craft feels very close, but there are still some structural limitations:

- Tags are still quite limited and not deeply integrated into workflows.

- Collections are restricted inside their parent documents rather than acting globally.

- Shortcuts can append to documents, but not directly into collections/databases/views.

- Captured content cannot easily include active elements like mentions, backlinks, or relations during quick capture.

- There is still friction between “capture first” and “organize later.”

What I would love to see:

- A true global inbox

- More powerful tags/properties

- Dynamic smart collections based on filters

- Global collections/databases not tied to one document

- Better automation rules

- Shortcut support for adding structured objects directly into collections

- Ability to create mentions/backlinks/relations during capture

- More object-based workflows rather than purely document-based organization

Craft already has one of the best writing and UX experiences out there. These kinds of workflow improvements could make it an incredible PKM and second-brain platform as well.

Feature request: Graph View similar to Obsidian

Hi Craft team,

Please consider adding a Graph View feature similar to Obsidian.

It would help users visually see connections between documents, backlinks, folders, and linked pages. This would make Craft much stronger for personal knowledge management, research, study notes, and long-term knowledge organization.

A global graph and local graph for each document would be very useful.

Thanks for considering this feature.

Craft Agents is a worth competitor to Codex CLI

I really enjoy using Craft Agents, I was looking for an opensource or free non vendor locked alternative to Codex and Craft Agents is simply the best in it's class. I don't see a lot of people talking about it which is interesting since it probably is the easiest to use Agentic platform compared to things like Hermes etc. Just posting this to make sure people know and good job Craft team!

Following Viktor’s post yesterday, an update has already dropped, 3.4.2. This seems to be the ‘early next week’ version he was referring to:

• Early next week: better sidebar customization, Reminders improvements, and some smaller fixes

The customization is useful, especially on the smaller mobile screen where you can now hide Imagine and Shared with Me. Imagine in particular didn’t need to be at the top of the side bar, it’s a (very useful) setting to access MCP and API connections but didn’t need to be accessed daily.

The reminder improvements are the other ones I’ve looked at. Seems an improved implementation but to be honest I’ve never really found a good use case for them or understood when to use reminders vs tasks. I can see the point of timed tasks but adding an alert to a document seems less useful. Any good ideas?

Here are the full release notes:

Craft 3.4.2 Release Notes
This update brings a redesigned Reminders experience, more flexible sidebar customization, smoother editing, and a range of visual polish across Craft.
You can now keep Craft cleaner by hiding Imagine and Shared with Me from the sidebar on Mac and iPad, or from the Home Screen on iPhone. Reminders are easier to manage with grouped sections for Overdue, Upcoming, and Resolved items. On Mac, you can also pin the Craft Assistant panel to the side of your window so it stays open while you write.
We’ve also improved styling interactions, math formulas, exports, slash menu labels, and fixed several small visual glitches across the app.
Highlights
Home, Sidebar & Navigation
• You can now hide Imagine and Shared with Me from the sidebar on Mac and iPad, and from the Home Screen on iPhone via Customize Sidebar. This is especially useful if you prefer a cleaner, more focused mobile experience.
• We also cleaned up several small visual details across the app, including sidebar alignment, selected Calendar states, and card style modal behavior.
Reminders
• The Reminders list has been redesigned with grouped Overdue, Upcoming, and Resolved sections. Resolved reminders are hidden by default, and a new 3-dot menu lets you show or hide resolved reminders, resolve all overdue reminders at once, or delete all resolved reminders with confirmation.
• On iPhone and iPad, the plus button has moved to the bottom-left toolbar. Reminder icons now clearly indicate whether a reminder is overdue, upcoming, or resolved. To resolve or unresolve a reminder, use its context menu.
Slash Menu
• We added a Custom Reminder option to the slash menu and block Edit menu, making it faster to add reminders without leaving the keyboard.
• Reminder, table, and separator labels in the slash menu are now clearer too.
Tags
• Tags hidden in workspace settings no longer appear as badges in block previews.
Document Editing & Styling
• You can now drag colors, color pairs, hex strings, and images directly onto the styling panel and color targets. The dropped value applies immediately, without needing to open a picker.
• Math formulas now support non-Latin characters and symbols typed directly, including emojis. We also improved spacing around \dots to better match standard mathematical typesetting.
• On Mac, scrolling past a focused block no longer jumps back to it for certain block types.
Export
• Mermaid XY chart axis labels, titles, and legends now render correctly in PDF and PNG exports.
Assistant
• On Mac, you can now pin the Craft Assistant panel to the right side of the window so it stays open while you write. Drag it to snap, or use Pin to Side from the chat menu.
• The Assistant can now also reorder rows and columns in tables, including transposing tables or moving rows to the top.
• Card background colors set by the Assistant now preserve both light and dark variants correctly.

I'm an avid Craft user and think it's a fantastic app. I rely on it for personal knowledge management and as a hub for my active projects. Working in film in LA, I've found it especially useful for creating project documents and sharing URLs with department heads to streamline our pre-production workflow.

That said, I have a few pain points that I wanted to share:

Formatting control is my biggest frustration. I know the Craft team has mentioned plans to improve image placement and formatting options, which is great to hear. Richer text formatting overall would be a huge win. Capacities is a good reference point for what's possible, offering two-column text layouts and more flexible image positioning among other things.

Page width is another persistent headache. By default Craft confines content to roughly the middle third of the screen. The "Wide Page" setting helps but having to enable it manually for every new document is tedious and even then it doesn't make full use of available screen real estate.

I'm genuinely excited to see what the Craft team has in the pipeline and hope these thoughts are useful.

Thanks for building such a great product!

It’s been discussed before, but after a few image heavy projects I have a few thoughts. Here are the features I miss most.

- Resize images freely by selecting the image block and drag the corners. Any resulting white space on the sides should be kept empty.
- Add an option for right, center or left placement for images.
- Crop. I would like to crop images directly in Craft.
- Add thumbnail as an image size, to fit more images in a small space and get a better overview. Even better if a bunch of images can be toggled between regular size and thumbnails (similar to the dropdown triangle, but with preview thumbnails).

I was hoping whiteboards would solve my image problems, but I really need the images to be fully integrated with the texts.
