Current Loop Parking Situation

Hey all,

Just seeing if anyone has insight on the current situation parking in the Loop during the weekdays. It's been years since I've regularly commuted downtown and previously bikes could be stacked up in spots jussssstttt outside of No Parking Zones - basically the last 8 feet of a curb section. I believe this option was basically eliminated around Covid due to adding and moving the signs, but don't know what the situation is now. Is there much available street parking around the Loop or are garages the only option now?

Just wondering. Ik it’s illegal but I do it myself on some occasions but not all the time. If traffic is really bad I definitely will be trying to split or filter. I’m in the west suburbs. I know it’s not heavily enforcing by cpd but have any of y’all had issues with local suburb police

Are there any vintage motorcycle groups/shops in the area????

I have an old 77 Honda CB550 that I want to get some work done to. I also might be interested in a spot that lets you store and work on your bike. I’ve seen bike collectives where you purchase a membership and can store and work on your bike. And possibly even get help and advice lol. Just seeing what’s possible out here! Thank you for any help/advice!

Motorcycle seat shaving in the city

Hello, does anyone have any recommendations where I can get my motorcycle seat cushion shave to help with being a short rider. Preferably local in the city of Chicago.

Bought it used in 2021 with only 2,861 miles which was so weird to me. How could the previous owner have only put that little mileage in 5 years of ownership? Just passed 17k miles during this mornings commute.

Drove three hours one way to buy it from the oldest Honda dealership in the states in Indianapolis. My first fast bike, I had a 250 & 300 CBR before this one. It’s my forever bike and I’ll never get rid of it, just needs more green.

Meant to post yesterday but was super busy yesterday and today.

So…. I took the MSF last year and didn’t pass the Skills test. Did really well on the exam. I think it was nerves for the skills test. I did well during the practice but… I don’t know. Was pretty bummed. It was late in the season so I had to wait to try again. I went ahead the following week to to the DMV to get my permit while everything was fresh and passed the exam, but had a hard time figuring out how to get them to give me a skills test. Just gave up lol.

So this month I kept looking but I couldn’t find an MSF…. they are all booked all the time. So I just decided to do Ride Chicago. They have a new skills test practice only. HIGHLY recommend. not sure if the instructors change, but I had Jay and he was incredible. We worked on the skills test only for about 3 hours. Then I went back to Ride Chicago yesterday morning for the test, and passed with, what I will call Supreme Confidence lol.

It is a little expensive, but I can’t recommend Ride Chicago enough. I didn’t take their beginner class, but this new offering is exactly what I needed. I’m betting their beginner class is great if the practice was this good.

I’m on a black 2014 CBR500R so I’ll see you all out there! Be safe everyone!

For 20 years, the Ride Janie Ride Foundation has been bringing the community together for one common goal; to pay it forward.  What started as a way help to alleviate the financial burden of cancer treatments for our dear friend Janie Bawel, grew into an experience much larger than any of us could have imagined.  The annual event will take place on May 3, 2026, bringing together thousands of participants to raise funds for the nominiated recipients.

Since 2007, the Ride Janie Ride Foundation has benefited 104 recipients battling various types of cancer. The charity motorcycle event launches in Villa Park and ends in Frankfort. Because it is a 50-mile police-escorted ride connecting those two points, a direct route typically passes through several western and southwestern suburbs.

Stay safe riders! And thank you

Looking for insight on “Grey” area parking.

Alley behind house has a light pole, if I park my bike inline with it so I can chain my bike to it. Would I get a ticket?

It is in Logan Square, but if I get a parking ticket or 2 and it is less than $150 a month it sounds like a deal to me.

Ik it is technically not legal but I am leaving the alley unobstructed.
