Old is Gold, finally got a good combo in DMC 3 (crimson is godsend).

MGR music went surprisingly well with the combo.

My life is lowkey complete now, I finally have some nice combos on all three games (dmc 3,4,5) on record.

Is Metal Gear Rising (slightly) overrated?

I ask this question because I consistently see people put Mgr above games like Bayonetta, ninja gaiden and even sometimes above Devil May Cry.

I think Mgr is best in class when it comes to setpieces, story, presentation especially music, and setting. But when it comes to combat, this is far from Platinum at their best in my opinion. Less combos, less weapons, less moves, stealth sections, the clunky ninja run, and the giant camera issues on Jetstream Sam’s levels especially.

Even the bosses which are the biggest highlight are not perfect. Red monsoon is essentially just parryparryparryparryparry then swingswingswingswing until you magically hit him, then you slice the debris a few times until it’s over. I also think that Sundowner’s fight while cool as hell is very brief and a bit anticlimactic for how present he was as a villain early in the game. The Armstrong fight as Jetstream Sam was also janky as hell on my hard play through of it, with him flying across the screen erratically and deleting my health bar with little reaction time

Essentially, I love mgr, it’s one of the most memorable games I’ve ever played, but it’s combat honestly pales in comparison to its peers in my opinion, yet it feels like the general gaming industry is always placing it at the top of the mountain alongside if not above the greats that I mentioned in the first paragraph.

Do I need to replay mgr and discover more combat sauce that I’m missing? Or am I right that without the cutscenes, story, music and setpieces; Mgr would only be an average game to play, and that the same cannot be said about bayo or devil may cry?

How do you feel about bayonetta 2's combat?

Bayo 2 is often criticized on the bayo sub and youtube for how it gives even somewhat basic enemies in the game the ability to parry and break your flow in combat, due to the game being balanced around umbral climax instead of umbran climax in of itself being balanced. Im curious about how this sub feels about that.

I'm so hype. Copped this at Gamestop just now.

I couldn't believe my eyes.

Edit: Unfortunately not backwards compatible on Series X for some reason but its still going in the library

Dead As Disco thoughts?

I remember the Demo was frequently posted here a while back. Now that the game is out, what are your thoughts?

I saw that the story mode isn't as traditional as some people thought, there's no traversal of levels with enemies in between arenas etc.

I'm thinking of picking it up; has anyone here moved on to the actual release after the demo? And what are your thoughts?

Spikeout might be peak gaming

They somehow managed to recreate human consciousness in a 1998 3d action game with the enemy AI, every run of this game managed to feel fresh and engaging and I don't know how they did it.

Character Action Adventure?

I'm wondering if there are any games that blend the exploration style of Action-Adventures like Zelda with the stylish action of hack-n-slash character action games such as Devil May Cry. I've heard the 3D Ninja Gaiden & No More Heroes games are like this, but I haven't played any of them yet to confirm.

Song is “Maniac” by Bella and the Switchblades (off of the game’s OST). Gameplay footage is on “Japanese Hard Mode” difficulty.

I like this game a lot, y’all.

Which games do you think are the best melee combat focus games that aren't actually CAGs?

Games like:

-Monster Hunter

-Dragons Dogma

-Kunitsu Gami

-Sekiro

-Bloodborne

-Dark Souls/Elden Ring

-For Honor

-Batman Arkham series

-Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor

-The Warriors (ps2, Rockstar)

-The lord of the rings: Two towers/ Return of the king (ps2, EA)

And honorable mention for the arcade beat'em'ups like Double Dragon, Final Fight, Golden Axe, Cadillac and Dinosaurs, Capcom's D&D, etc

Do you agree?

What other examples can you think of?

Shout out to Mutants in Manhattan. I checked this game out at the library and had a lot of fun playing it for that week. Now its delisted from the Playstation store cause Activision can't manage ips.

Any fans of the Lords of Shadow games here? The story kind of goes hard...

Fan art is by me. Sometimes I get commissioned to draw ridiculously cool subject matter.
