Thinking about getting a new smart ceiling fan any advice folks

the ceiling fan in my parents guest room has officially reached the sounds like a helicopter trying to land stage. it has been running for over twenty years, and after my last visit, i told them it is finally time to swap it out.

this thing is basically a triple threat in the worst way possible. the noise is a constant rattling hum that makes sleeping impossible. the light is just one dim bulb, barely enough to see anything. as for the controls, the pull chain is flimsy and honestly annoying for them to reach.

so yeah, my main goal here is something actually quiet, which got me looking into dc motors. also hoping to get a solid built in led so they do not have to rely on random lamps everywhere.

after digging around for a bit, i ended up landing on a model from parrot uncle, pic attached. it seems decent overall, clean look, dc motor, plus it comes with a remote which already feels like a big upgrade.

now i am a bit stuck on a couple things and figured i would ask here.

how tight is the receiver fit inside the ceiling canopy. the junction box is standard, nothing fancy, but i keep hearing these receivers can be annoying to squeeze in.

also curious about control options. has anyone managed to pair something like this with a wall switch like lutron caseta, or are you basically stuck with the included remote. my parents are very used to wall switches, so i am trying to keep things simple for them.

MY ROOM IS SO HOT HELP

I’ve been trying to figure out how to turn my ceiling fan on for so long now. Here are some things I’ve tried and some information.

It has no strings to pull and no switches on the wall to turn the fan on. So I’m assuming it’s remote controlled. I found the receiver and got the dip stick code and tried on the only remote we have in the house still and it doesn’t work (remote battery is good). I also tried every single combination possible…

On the fan motor housing (I’m guessing) I see the model number that says “HLC52-B-WH” when I look it up, I get fans which look nothing like mine. So either Google is lying to me, the fan is discontinued, or I’m a dumbass. The only way I currently use the fan is for the light (via switch on wall).

I’ve attached some pictures of the fan. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas.

This ceiling fan actually made me rethink my electricity usage

I randomly switched one of my old ceiling fan with atomberg renesa halo a month ago. First thing, it just looks better. The design is clean and doesn’t have that bulky motor look most fans do. Blends in nicely with the room instead of standing out.

The bigger difference though was power usage. I didn’t think a fan would make much of a dent, but after a few months I did notice my electricity bill was slightly lower. Nothing crazy, but enough to make me pay attention. Ended up replacing the rest of the fans at home after that.

Remote turned out to be more useful than I thought, mostly because I am too lazy to get up 😅 but I keep losing it around the house. I use the app & alexa voice command more becoz at night I dnt have to get up and search for power button, so thats useful.

Overall, didn’t think changing a fan would make this much diff, but it’s been a solid upgrade so far.

Has anyone else switched to a BLDC fan? Do you regularly use smart features in ur fan?

Does Anyone Know What Brand This Is?

Hey all, the chain pull for this ceiling fan just came out, so it looks like I'll need to buy a replacement internal holder thing. I'll be able to open it up tomorrow to find out what I need, but if anyone knows what the brand is by the sticker, that would help me out a lot.

Lights usually have a glass cover I removed, there are 5 basic blades, the whole thing's probably from the mid-2000's.

Switching ceiling fan help

The fan in my room started grinding in the middle of the night so, next day, I went to the store to replace it. I found a "lutron ceiling fan canopy module" when I was switching out the fans. Never seen that before so I googled it and how to wire it. My set up is the wall dimmer and fan speed switch in the photo. The light part controls the ceiling (can?) lights and the light on the fan at the same time. (I've been told this was the problem). The fan button just runs the fan normally. I didn't have any problems before the switch.

After trying to replace the fan with a new one and googling wiring I can't get it to work with the lutron canopy. I even tried to do it with the external remote supplied and it didn't work fan and it didn't work.

Home Depot and Lowe's told me to get an electrician and have them split off the ceiling lights. Is that true? Did I buy the wrong fan? I got a harbour breeze? I'm by no means an electrician but I have replaced ceiling fans, light fixtures and outlets with no problems so I would rather figure it out if I can.

I just want to get it back to the way it was lol. Maybe it was Southern engineered too much before me, they were here when I bought the place.

Photos are old fan with the light on showing the ceiling lights, new fan, wall switch and finding the canopy on top

Ceiling fan trouble

Hello everyone! I recently bought a house and have been working through different upgrades and renovations. Ceiling fans seemed easy enough until I started getting into the process the first one installed just fine but it hums a bit. Not a major issue but I can come back to that.

I ran into bigger issues with ceiling fans 2 and 3. I noticed they were very old and had a support bar installed on them where the junction boxes currently is, but on the finished side of the ceiling. I’ve never seen that and imagine it was an older way of doing things. I had to pause as I don’t think the junction boxes are rated for ceiling fans, which I think lead to the drywall around the fan cracking.

I bought the expanding junction boxes that expand and dig into the beams but as I took the old junction box out, I saw it was attached right on the beam in the center of the room. Had to pivot and bought a junction box that connects to this beam but as I was screwing it in, I hear the beam splinter.

Now here I am, any suggestions?

DC kit needed?

I bought a house that has a Monte Carlo Tuscany ceiling fan (model 4TUR52RB), but Visual Comfort (which now owns the brand) does not have any more remotes, the model is discontinued, and the house, unfortunately, did not come with a remote for the fan. The wall switch for the fan (if indeed it is the switch for the fan, but we don't know what else it could be for) doesn't turn it on, so it must have been turned off before the remote was lost.

How can I tell what sort of DC kit is needed for the fan? Sorry, this is out of my wheelhouse and I have no experience here.

Looking for trustworthy company to purchase a Matthews Irene 3 fan

Hi everyone,

I m in the US, and in the market to purchase an Irene 3 fan similar to this one.

https://preview.redd.it/9n6ucod9b0yg1.png?width=2680&format=png&auto=webp&s=fc863766be773ac82432ace113fe4e4118eca957

Many of the online companies showing through Google shopping have it at different prices, with the 60" going anywhere between $550 and $750. I m not even sure what s the suggested price for this model?

I tried to pull the trigger using 1STOPLighting.com who guaranty a 3 days delivery but that s totally bullshit and after 24hrs, they still hadn't processed my order to ship. I though that was fishy and I m trying to cancel my order, but they say they cannot guaranty cancellation. ..

Looks like I m gonna have a headache with these crooks....

In the meantime, can any of you recommend a trustworthy company to buy this model from?

Thanks.

Casa Vieja ceiling fan remote control speeds are inverse. How to rectify?

On two of my fans, 1 on the remote is the fastest fan speed and 6 on the remote is the slowest fan speed. Any way to reverse this craziness?

Tapping Noise

My ceiling fan is making this tapping noise when the fan moves, whether it’s running or not (video shows how the tapping starts when I touch the fan). The noise seems to be coming from above the fan, like either the junction box or within the plaster. The house is from 1921. I had the fan put in in 2023 (Minka Aire). Any ideas of what is happening?

Help with identifying model/identifying compatible light kits

I want to change the light kits on these fans from ones that use candelabra bulbs to regular bulbs, but the light kits I bought do not have a wide enough base. None of the item pages for light kits except for one says how wide the base is, and the one that I found is not wide enough. I either need help figuring out how to find light kits with wide enough bases (the base of the fan is about 5 inches, the base of the light kit is about 5.25 inches) or help identifying the model of the fan so I can look up compatible light kits.

3-level pull-chain fan 101 needed. If fan is on dimmer, can I simply remove the capacitor?

I have two pull-chain AC ceiling fans. Bot on a wall dimmer (fan type). So, I keep the pull chain on max. Recently, I noticed that one of the fans is making a bit of hum noise. Also, sometimes a strange start. My next thought was to replace the capacitor.

But looking at some of the online wring diagrams I started wondering whether I still need a capacitor? Could I simply remove the the pull chain switch and capacitor and wire the AC motor direct?

Ceiling Fan Identification

At an old lake house, downstairs in the dining room, which was converted into a bedroom. Had this ceiling fan in it I was a big fan enthusiast back then and I’ve never been able to identify it so I want your guises help to identify this fan as of now this fan is long gone as the room that this fan was in was demolished by the new owners there were two green balls as the chain fobs the tassel, I added when I was younger there was this schoolhouse looking globe on the kitchen counter next to the room, but I don’t know if that helps anything
