Grand Cayman-Seven Mile Beach vs North Beaches/Rum point

We are looking for a place that is a happy medium. We normally look for laid back areas when we go to Caribbean islands, but we have a traveler with us this time who prefers nightlife and bars. On what part of the island should we aim to stay? Maybe I am thinking SMB is going to be too crazy when in fact it is not. Can you give me a comparison? Like, SMB is like Ocean City NJ when it comes to crowds and things to do. This is an adult only vacation. I was kind of hoping Rum Point might be a good compromise. Your thoughts?

Recommendations

Hello! We are arriving this weekend for a week. I’m looking for recommendations for a number of things:

  1. Best place for sushi

  2. Best place for seafood besides sushi

  3. A good gym for drop-ins

  4. A boat tour that would not be crowded but not a private charter

  5. A place we can volunteer

We are also wondering if there are any groups that play pick-up soccer.

Thanks in advance ✨

US business banking for offshore companies in Cayman and BV

We have a holding company in Cayman and a subsidiary in BVI and the US banking side has been the biggest headache since we incorporated. Weve been rejected by 3 major banks so far and the one that said yes wanted all directors to fly to New York to sign paperwork in person.

Our accountant recently moved our BVI entity to Meow and got an FDIC insured account with Visa corporate cards and full access to domestic wire and ACH rails in under 48 hours and no branch visit no months of back and forth.

Theyre setting up the Cayman entity next so is anyone else here banking through a US fintech for their offshore company?

What to expect at airport upon arriving and departure?

I ask because im trying to time checkout and car rental. We arrive at 1154am on a saturday and i asked Marshall for rental at 1pm. When leaving on a saturay, our flight is at 1250pm. However, our checkout from airbnb is 9am. Assuming i cant get a later checkout, ill have to kill some time. I cant imagine the airport is anything like the US where we need to arrive 3hrs ahead?

Gyms near sav?

Hey folks, returning back home and got a place secured in Savannah. I know there is gym in country side, but curious if there are any other options that others may prefer.

A few questions about the east end

I'll be staying at a resort on the east end of the island for a week. I have a couple of questions I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on.

(1) Are there companies that will deliver e-bikes for rental to the east end of the island?

(2) Is cycling along the Queens Highway and Old Robin Road safe?

(3) I'm interested in visiting the Salina Reserve. Any tips on how best to do that?

Thanks very much!

Private car rental? - DUI

Pretty much in the title. I have a year-old DUI on my driving record and I need to rent a car in Grand Cayman. The car rental companies are telling me their insurance won't let them rent to me. Even the smaller ones like Andy's.

Is there a private (person-to-person like Turo) car rental option there?

Snorkel tour advice, please

We will be on the island in Sept. We are interested in a snorkel tour. We typically go on a shared tour when we visit Turks. I looked at Red Sail and is seems everything revolves around the sting rays. We are not interested in that activity.

Thank you in advance.

The landfill is on fire

Just a heads up. Probably want to stay away from southeast of the landfill. It's pretty big.

Missed Connection 4/14 Southwest WN913 (Grand Cayman to Orlando) Group 8 Pilot

Missed Connection Southwest WN913 Grand Cayman to Orlando 4/14

We met at the gate before boarding Southwest flight WN913 from Grand Cayman to Orlando. Both group 8. We walked to the plane together and talked the whole way.

You were the pilot headed home to Florida with the easy smile. I’m the chef from San Francisco. We smiled again as we deplaned, but I couldn’t catch you before we went separate ways.

I should’ve asked for your number.

If you remember me, reply with something we talked about so I know it’s really you.

Single family offices and multi-family offices

This might be a bit of a long stretch, but I am wondering if anyone would be willing to connect me to some cayman family offices? Either mfo or sfo.

For context, I run 2 companies, one that is a pre-built solution for family offices that unified their work domains under one roof. The other is build focused for developing bespoke solutions for family offices.

Although I have worked with a Cayman asset manager and working with a startup mfo, I'm still trying to get my foot in the door in cayman.

Let me know, and I'm happy to chat. My linkedin is on my reddit profile.

Considering going to north side in May with family

Hello! My husband and I have fallen in love with grand cayman over the years and have always stayed on seven mile. We have a baby now and an Airbnb with family makes more sense for us. I found a great option on north side but haven’t been. Anything I should know before booking ?

US Dollars

Curious to know how widely accepted us dollars are on the island. Other than taxis do we really need cash? Also is 15pct standard tip for restaurants?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Juvenile Mola mola at Spotts beach - rare?

Had an awesome time observing the turtles at Spotts beach on Sunday, and got a bonus visit from a juvenile Mola mola (maybe 20” long). Was our first visit and super curious how rare this sighting might be from some more experienced with these waters.
