Am I the only one who thinks we shouldn’t sack Voss?

Hear me out.

The last time a Carlton coach left without being sacked was David Parkin in 2000. We haven’t been very good since then.

Voss has a contract until the end of this season. Resurrecting Norm Smith and Jock McHale co-coaching would not get us anywhere near finals this year. So what’s the point getting rid of Voss, having some poor assistant coach take over and repeat the cycle?

Let Voss see out his contract, do a proper search in the background and we can only hope that the curse on this club will be lifted.

i am not a crackpot.

After 7 straight losses, it's official. Things can only get better from here right? Right? 😭

Where do we go from here?

Just in. Official. Our new coach is Josh Fraser....

Coaching background

Appointed coach of Gold Coast’s NEAFL reserves team in January 2014.

Joined Carlton in 2016 as a development coach and VFL coach for the Northern Blues .

Became senior coach of the Northern Bullants in 2020/21 .

Later coached Collingwood’s VFL side and served as Head of Development

Thoughts? It may be the change we need desperately..

Nick Austin has to be next

Bloke has made some ordinary and perplexing decisions when it comes to our list since the end of 2020.

Its like he thinks just because someone was a 1st round pick, they will turn it around here. No, they weren't playing at their old clubs because they weren't good enough.

I knew r/AFL & would jump to Vossys defence and blame "Carlton".

Like, it's possible to respect Vossy and wish him well, whilst also acknowledging his consistent poor gameday coaching, lack of tactical nous & team selection is largely the reasons we're in this mess.

Under his watch we've lost Curnow, TDK, Silvagni, Kennedy, Jack Martin... AA level core of the list...

Young players in the 2s never being rewarded.

Favourites staying in the side after consistently shit performances (Motlop/Curnow 2025)

Not making changes or showing enough leadership on the bench during 5+ goal runs against us.

I'm not saying the list decisions were all his but he was ultimately a driving factor for top players to want out.

Bruce Mathiesons’ comments

I’m surprised this hasn’t had much traction. From The Age, he’s certainly saying what he thinks:

“They did the right thing, 100 per cent, but it’s not just him [Voss], there is a lot that has got to go, a lot of changes. Unless they do a clean sweep and fix things up, nothing will change,” Mathieson said on Tuesday.

Have a look at the recruiting, will you? Tell me, other than the young bloke [Jagga Smith], if you can’t pick in the first five and get a reasonable player, what else have we ever picked?
“It’s just terrible, absolutely terrible. You have got to look at the head first – it always stinks at the head first. Our football department is just a disgrace.”

Mathieson backed Wright and Davies to make the right changes.
“Look at anything. How are we going to improve? You look at Collingwood. Does [Scott] Pendlebury improve? Do all of our older players improve? The answer is no. You have got to get younger players in who will improve and give you a chance,” Mathieson said.

They are all great players, I am not canning them. But if you have a horse running against Winx, you not only want to catch her, you want to pass her – that’s when you win.

“You look at Brisbane. They had [several] players in their premiership side under 23. Name one good top player at Carlton who is 23 or younger. [Smith] is one … but there is a long way to go yet.”

Mathieson said the Blues needed to consider any rival offers for club leaders Patrick Cripps and Jacob Weitering, while Harry McKay, Adam Saad and Zac Williams should be moved on.

“You have got [Zac] Williams, you have got [Adam] Saad, these sort of blokes are on big money. Do you reckon they are ever going to improve? It’s just bad business,” Mathieson said.

Harry McKay has played one good game [against Brisbane on Friday night]. They all think he is a miracle man. That’s the first good game he has played in about two years. Just can’t have that.

“But I believe he should have been a ruckman all the time. I don’t think Harry McKay can read the game at full-forward. We aren’t great deliverers of the ball, that would help a lot.

Get him around the ground, he can run his arse off because he can mark around the ground, he is good below [his knees], he has a lot of skill, let him build, if you are going to keep him at all. I would sell him.”

(Kane Cornes) Carlton should ask the question of Justin Longmuir and try and poach him from Fremantle

u/FuckYouCurnow — 2 days ago

A thought

Vossy by resigning and resigning early has done us a favour. Carlton can now openly recruit a new coach well before the start of the new season and not having to be mindful of doing so and appearing to white ant Voss.

It gives the players a chance to step up and show who they are and for a change of tactics to emerge. I’m not super hopeful, but as much as I feel for Vossy, this may work out.

Cooper Lord

Has anyone got any information as to why they have not been playing Cooper? I other than him being sick/unwell last week?

To me, this bloke and Carroll are my 1 and 2 of the entire team

Our future as a club

With Vossy gone, along with Nick and Tassy coming into the league in 2028, how are we going to rebuild? There is a lack of available talent, too many teams in the comp, we have a shocking history of coaches and are the worst team this century by far at the moment. How are we going to fix this complete disaster?

It’s the same story with the media + general fans when the Voss news came out

It’s so frustrating but typical from the media and even fans in general that throughout the year have called for Voss to be sacked or spent more then half of a footy show discussing the troubles we have and potential replacements and how poor we are at the moment.

But as soon as the news comes out that he resigned, all of the sudden the narrative shifts? People start feeling bad and then go straight to “it was never Vosses fault” or “they’ve done him dirty” and “the list sucks and he didn’t get enough of a chance”.

I understand from a peoples side I do feel for Voss and hope for the best and there are absolutely more problems in the club that won’t be solved by just getting rid of Voss but I’m so tired of the narrative all of a sudden changing once the news came out.

The media goes from hinting that he should leave, discussing replacements to “Carlton didn’t go about this the right way” and “he couldn’t succeed with this list”. Both can be true but why don’t you KEEP that same energy you had during the season???
