It’s the same story with the media + general fans when the Voss news came out

It’s so frustrating but typical from the media and even fans in general that throughout the year have called for Voss to be sacked or spent more then half of a footy show discussing the troubles we have and potential replacements and how poor we are at the moment.

But as soon as the news comes out that he resigned, all of the sudden the narrative shifts? People start feeling bad and then go straight to “it was never Vosses fault” or “they’ve done him dirty” and “the list sucks and he didn’t get enough of a chance”.

I understand from a peoples side I do feel for Voss and hope for the best and there are absolutely more problems in the club that won’t be solved by just getting rid of Voss but I’m so tired of the narrative all of a sudden changing once the news came out.

The media goes from hinting that he should leave, discussing replacements to “Carlton didn’t go about this the right way” and “he couldn’t succeed with this list”. Both can be true but why don’t you KEEP that same energy you had during the season???

For those who want Mara at 8, please sell it to me/change my mind

Look I understand defensively he’s the type we need. 7,3 barefoot doesn’t come around often. But at pick 8 I’m still not convinced. I would love to have my mind changed but i don’t think he’s the right guy to take at 8.

His measurements are great don’t get me wrong, but I do think it’s easy to get fooled by measurements. Mo Bamba, Bol bol and Hasheem Tabeet are perfect examples, elite measurements but just couldn’t find there way on a basketball court. Now Aday Mara for sure has probably a much better IQ and unique skill set however I’m still not convinced on the fit.

Firstly his free throw numbers and lack of perimeter game. That’s fine/expected as a center, but I just don’t think our team can afford another perimeter negative guy. Dyson we know has his concerns, JJ can hit the three but he’s not a close out threat yet. That’s why I think OO is very valuable to this team as we need someone to stretch the floor with Dyson.

If Dyson doesn’t significantly improve his three ball and free throws I just don’t see how him and Mara can share the court (albeit unbelievably elite defensively that paring would be). There would be two non shooters and bad free throw shooters who can allow their man to clog the driving lanes for Jj, Nickiel and the others. Good coaches will coach straight to that weakness. Not to mention the hack a Dyson/Mara come playoffs if indeed those numbers don’t rise

Now we definitely need to see his lateral and mobility tests before I can make any statements but if they’re not great (for a 7 footer) then i also have defensive concerns come playoff time. Regular season he’d be fine but we saw this with clingan who had his minutes cut for Rob Williams, in the playoffs. He will get picked on in switches and brought to the perimeter if he can’t move quick enough laterally. That would be a nightmare for us. Imagine the Knicks with Brunson and Kat dragging Mara out to the three and switching onto him to attack. I just don’t know how he would stay on the court. But again this is all hypotheticals, if he does move well for his size that could change things.

I do see floor point of view though that he is a better option compared to a guard. Like at worst he should be a rotational guy compared to a Flemings or Brown who could be complete busts. But with our roster construction idk I’m not so sure he’s the answer at 8. If we keep 8 and trade up for him that’s fine.

Feel free to change my mind.

Brown Jr or Philon?

As a hawks fan it seems at 8 there will still be one of these guards around.

I’ve seen a lot of red flag talk about Brown and a lot of love for Philon but Brown is mocked higher which I’m assuming because of potential.

Which one would you take?

We’re the only team that made the playoffs and has a top 10 pick 🤷‍♂️

I know it’s disappointing to not jump up but there’s far worse positions we could’ve been in (cough cough Sacramento 😬😬 )

We move

What do you want to Hawks to do with Kuminga?

Now that the season is done we’ve seen the highs and the lows that Kuminga brings. The playoffs was a perfect example. The stark contrast between games 2 & 3 vs 4,5,6 were pretty wild. But that’s the type player he is, an inconsistent guy whose X factor.

He’s got a team option that’s about 24m. Would you like to see us accept that and play out a full year with him? Or sign him to a longer term deal (x money for x amount of years)? Or would you rather see us decline it look elsewhere.

For me I wouldn’t be racing to sign him to an extension yet, I’d rather give him a full year to really prove himself. Otherwise if we are a genuine shot at getting an actual bigman (Hartenstein or whoever) but we need his salary I would rather decline the option. Technically he is an expiring contract so there could also be value in accepting and looking during the season if it’s not working out.

What do you guys think?

Real shit tho, maybe sounds like cope but from watching the east games Knicks are genuinely a level above all the other teams.
