Honeymoon Location ideas? On a 'budget'

Hi! My fiance and I would love some help with honeymoon locations. We live in MN and want to honeymoon in the Caribbean, keeping it under $4k if possible.

We are in our mid twenties and want some place romantic, tropical, and relaxing, while not boring and having things to do and see nearby. Different animals, scenery, possibly jungles, snorkeling, NICE BEACHES, fun stores and buildings to walk around down the road, possibly massages? Etc. We are both very active and it’s hard to sit and do nothing for extended periods.

My DREAM is staying in some type of water bungalow over the ocean, or some type of unique lodging. FYI- we are NOT one bit rich. I realized after saying all that that it sounds like we have all this money to spend, but we do not. Trying to keep it under $4k

-Would be leaving from MN MPLS Airport end of June, and hoping for 7-10 nights

-Tropical (on the beach would be nice)

-Open to all inclusive resorts to save money, but also would love other options to get a more authentic experience

-Car rental : It would be nice to have a car and not have to take taxis everywhere. Safe driving in the area?

-Near things to do : beach, jungle, sight seeing, authentic food and buildings, not a total tourist trap with tourist shops like cities in FL and Myrtle Beach SC, water excursions, etc

-SAFE and not difficult or dangerous getting around

Have been to Puerto Rico and LOVED it. The buildings, scenery, beaches, EVERYTHING. I would definitely be open to going here again - Felt very safe, not anxious about getting scammed or robbed constantly like in Rome.

My fiancé and I both definitely get a little anxious when we are in foreign areas, but once we are situated and get a feel for the area/people, we are good

(Yes, I know $4k is pushing it, BUT I have faith in the deals that arise during summer, especially on Expedia. I have gotten Mexico all inclusive & Italy flight+stay packages on Expedia before for a week, $850-$975)

Bahamian men have two modes of interacting with each other.

Bahamian men have two modes of interacting with each other.

Highly respectful with honorable/honor-rebel and Yes King!

And the second is highly aggressive ….almost fight mode.

There is rarely an in between.

I was walking with guests one time and up ahead of us there were two men having a conversation.

Of course I thought nothing of it and kept walking. But then I felt a massive void behind me and when I spun around, everyone behind me was frozen in place.

It took me a second to understand that they were reacting to what seemed like a confrontation ahead of us. And rightly so. The men were gesturing and their voices were very aggressive.

And then I couldn't stop laughing.

Through my tears and body shakes I was finally able to tell them “I promise you that is a positive conversation and they are friends”.

Of course no one believed me.

A second later the men embraced each other and started laughing.

It was hilarious to see the group collectively release their held breath and finally start moving again.

Fun Fact #7 🇧🇸 The Bahamas flag is one of the few in the world with absolutely no white in it.

Aquamarine for the surrounding waters.

Gold for the sun and sand.

Black for the strength and resilience of the Bahamian people.

Now here’s the part I find funny…

Most country flags cannot seem to survive without white.

If it’s not a stripe, it’s a star.

If it’s not a star, it’s a circle.

If it’s not a circle, it’s an outline…

or a random dot just sitting somewhere in the middle like it paid rent to be there.

So naturally… I created what I call

“The No White Crew.”

At the start of my tour, I ask guests the colors of their country’s flag—

and just like that… you’re either in…

or respectfully disqualified.

And yes… I love picking on Americans a little:

“Quick question—do you know what your three colors actually mean?”

**EDIT**

Just to clarify…when I said “absolutely no white,” I mean no white anywhere on the flag, including emblems, outlines, or small details, not just the main colors.

A lot of flags that look like they don’t have white actually do once you look closer. For example:

Spain 🇪🇸 – white elements inside the coat of arms

Dominica 🇩🇲 – white stripes

Belize 🇧🇿 – large white sections in the emblem

Andorra 🇦🇩 – white outlined elements in the crest

Ecuador 🇪🇨 – white mountain and eagle details inside the national emblem

Bolivia 🇧🇴 (state flag) – white appears in the coat of arms

Bhutan 🇧🇹 – the dragon includes white

So under that definition, the Bahamas is still one of a minority of flags with zero white at all. I wasn’t saying it’s the only one…just not common.

P.S. There are a total of 195 to 200+ recognized country flags in the world.

What is there to do in Barbados besides hanging at the beach? Appreciate your input.

Thinking of taking a 4 r 5 day trip to Barbados. Can anyone enlighten me as to what there is to do besides sitting at the beach? Your comments/suggestions would be much appreciated. TYSM

Budget accommodations/Hostels in the islands

I wanted to see if anyone was aware of any decent and safe budget accommodations on any of the islands. I’ve stayed at decent places in the $60-$80 price range on St. John and the coasts of Belize and Costa Rica, as well as slightly pricier visit to Negril, and San Juan and Vieques in Puerto Rico, but wanted to explore more out in the islands on a semi-low budget. Any recommendations on this price range or am I just fantasizing? $100/night and under would work.

Offering free 15-min consultations for Caribbean business owners — websites + Stripe payment setup

Hey!

Not selling anything here, just offering some free help.

I work in tech/business consulting and I've been helping small business owners in the Caribbean with two specific problems:

  1. Getting a basic website up (or reviewing one you already have)

  2. Setting up Stripe so you can actually accept online payments to your bank account — which is a real headache in this region

If either of those sounds useful, I'm doing free 15-min Teams calls. No pitch at the end, no upsell. Most people walk away with at least one thing they can do that same day.

Drop a comment or DM me if you want to grab a slot. Happy to answer general questions in the thread too if it helps others reading.
