A rant in the idiocracy of law

New to guns here, but familiar with state statutes in other respects. I'm smashing my head against the wall at the idiocracy of the features ban in CT gun law. It doesn't make sense. You can't even argue it because it isn't meant to make sense. It's meant to be confusing and stupid because there's no sense behind it.

They want to ban scary guns that can do mass shootings. Great. That's all of them. So instead they ban ergonomic features on guns? Is an adjustable stock going to let someone shoot more children than otherwise? Is a pistol grip in which the non trigger fingers are underneath the action of the weapon going to be that much better for the shooters carpal tunnel that I he is less distracted while shooting up a mall? God forbid a car jacker have a handgun that is built with a shroud to prevent him from burning his hands on the barrel of the gun, not including the slide.

Why do I, the law abider, have to follow these restrictions for my plinking range toy when the mass shooter/terrorist who's fucked in the head won't?

That's all. You've heard it all before folks, but for someone who has never been a gun person other than video games and knows very little of firearms in real life, reading the law as it's written should be obvious for the average reasonable person to realize it's not meant to protect anyone.

Plan your Northeast Appleseed season

You’ve been thinking about it, this is the year to do it.  Attend an Appleseed event, bring a friend, hear your shared heritage as an American, and become a Rifleman.  But if you’re going to be a Rifleman, be a KD Rifleman.

We have two Rimfire KD (RKD) events and one Known Distance (KD) event on our schedule for the Northeast. The differences are caliber and distance.  The RKD is rimfire only and shot out to 200 yards. The KD is centerfire only and shot out to 400 yards, and beyond. You should attend a traditional 25m rifle clinic prior to the RKD or KD to get the fundamentals.  The fundamentals are the same, trajectory and wind become factors at the longer distances.

Options for 25m events prior to the RKDs and KD

NH 25m Rifle May 30-31 @ Pioneer Sportsmen in Dunbarton, NH
NH RKD June 13-14 @ Alder Brook Sportsman’s in Littleton, NH

NY 25m Rifle June 27-28 @ Chesterfield F&G in Clintonville, NY
VT 25m Rifle July 11-12 @ Proctor F&G in Proctor, VT
ME 25m Rifle July 18-19 @ Skowhegan Sportsman’s in Skowhegan, ME
NH 25m Rifle July 25-16 @ Pioneer Sportsmen in Dunbarton, NH
NY 25m Rifle Ladyseed August 8-9 @ SaraSpa in Saratoga Springs, NY
VT KD August 29-30 @ Camp Ethan Allen in Jericho, VT
MA RKD September 12-13 @ Leyden Rifle Club in Leyden, MA

25m Rifle information: https://appleseedinfo.org/rifle-25m/
RKD information:  https://appleseedinfo.org/rimfire-kd/
KD information: https://appleseedinfo.org/known-distance/

Register here:  https://appleseedinfo.org/schedulemap/

Sign up, bring a friend, family member, neighbor, or colleague.  Learn the fundamentals and then apply them by making hits at 400 yards !!!

Moving to CT

I currently live in MA and have an LTC and a handful of firearms like pistols and an AR15. My wife and I are considering moving to CT and I am curious if I have to get rid of the AR? It’s MA compliant (so are my pistols), I would also need a CT carry license but I’m not worried about that. More so the AR I built (and am very happy with).

Question about Birth Certificate for DPS-164-C Form

The form says to send a “copy of birth certificate”.

Does that mean a photocopy of the original is good enough or do I need to request a certified copy from my city/town of birth?

7.62 x 39 rifles

Im looking at getting a rifle in 7.62 x 39 and was wondering what you guys are running or had suggestions? My only desires really are that its a rifle length, semi auto, and suppressor ready. Not worried about fixed mag since its a range gun exclusively.

Wondering what the best options to get before the ban? I'm guessing discontinued glocks because the newer models they'll just remake so they're legal and not convertible?

maybe something like G40, G49, G17L, G36, G24

Will these be illegal in October?

Trying to find out if Lamont’s Kingdom of Connecticut is banning these as well. I assume so because they’re automatic so that probably makes it an assault watch. Asking for a friend.

Looking for Guidance on Suppressors in CT

Hello everyone,

Where can I get some guidance regarding suppressors?

I’m interested in buying one for my 10/22 and another for my AR-15. Is the $200 tax stamp still in effect or not? Are they legal in Connecticut, or has the government also gotten involved with this issue? Is there an existing thread about this so I don’t repeat the topic?

The 2026 Legislative Session has officially adjourned. As always, we faced a high-stakes battle for your Second Amendment freedoms, and CCDL was on the front lines every step of the way. 🫡

Here is a quick breakdown of the session's key bills:
👏HB5436: Required a background check to buy simple firearm parts such as barrels and receivers. CCDL DEFEATED this bill before it could gain momentum.
👏HB5533: A polling place carry ban that we fought tooth and nail to defeat was KILLED for the second time on the House floor.
👏HB5454: An actual common-sense bill, supported by CCDL, designed to ensure towns issue permits in timely fashion, which we fought to advance was passed.
🚨HB 5043: A terrible bill that absorbed the language of HB5454 but seeks to ban America’s most popular pistols.

While we are disappointed by the late-night tactics used to pass the Glock Ban, we are incredibly proud of the victories we secured in an anti-gun majority. By killing two major threats and championing pro-2A language, CCDL continues to be the strongest advocate for your 2A rights in Hartford.

Stronger every session, we will carry on and accomplish even more with your support. Join the fight today with CCDL!

Question about obtaining CT permit

I had a CT permit over a decade ago then moved to Colorado and it lapsed. I still have my NRA certificate. Does anyone know if this is still valid or will I need to take the class again. I had a friend reapply using his old certificate and it was fine, but that was a few years ago and I know the laws have probably changed drastically. I see some saying they are good for lifetime and other saying CT now wants the certificate within 2 years of the application. My certificate is from 2008.

Edit: I have found where it states as of 2024 Connecticut requires your certificate to be within 2 years of the submission of your application.

Based on what I have seen FFLs and lawyers say and a plain reading of the bill:

- Gen6 glocks are unaffected due to the molded tab, but this is contentious

- Gens 1-5 are unaffected because they are out of production

- RXM, Dagger, Shadow Systems made on or after Oct. 1 will be banned

This shit’s stupid.

Medical Marijuana Schedule III

I have a state medical marijuana card and thus have not purchased a firearm in years. I do have a current pistol permit (which I don’t use) that I acquired prior to my doctor’s recommendation. Due to current federal reforms reclassifying medical cannabis to Schedule III, is it possible for me to purchase a firearm now or do I need to wait for the revised Form 4473 to be rolled out? I’m specifically asking to get a Glock before the ban.

CT legal PDW?

Hi, I apologize if this is a stupid question. I am looking to get a PDW, but I know the restrictions here are so extreme. I wanted to know if anyone else owned anything in the sig mpx wheelhouse around the ct area, or could tell me what falls into that lane and is still legal?
