Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

The proposed property tax increase for 2027 has me frustrated on a level I've yet to reach as a Billings homeowner.

In the right world there would be no need to question a proposed tax increase for more funding where it concerns things like public safety, parks, etc., because these are all important targets, but I'm not sure that's the world we live in anymore. Sucks to say, but I have lost so much faith in the people pushing me to widen their access to my wallet. Will what they've taken be managed responsibly? Has it ever been managed responsibly?

I'm at a point now where I want obvious tracking, honest auditing, open reporting, and actual accountability out of the folks demanding more out of me. An accessible, automated portal outlining all of the City's daily spending, department-to-department, would be even better. Let us have eyes on the machine we've been blindly feeding money into. I'd love to have a system where a citizen's skeptical inquiry about specific spending initiates a required explanation from the department that created the cost.

I know I'm fantasizing wildly here, ("venting uselessly" is probably a better description), but it's our money and a person can dream.

Tennessean in town. I have a full day to kill. Lead me.

First time in Montanta I have a full day to kill this week in Billings. Maybe another full day next week. I've done my homework online. I've found the pubs and museums and local events.

Any recommendations for local food/sights/events.

I like steak and cigars. Willing to drive if there's anything I need to see. Would like to soak up some local stuff. I'm a 52 year old single man.

Fighter jet or Air Show?

Approximately 2 p.m. I watched a fighter jet fly south south east. Looked like there were items under the wings. (won’t presume fire power.)

Opening ceremony tomorrow!

2026 SPECIAL OLYMPICS!

Bob Marley says, “it’s all about the feel.” Promised is a feel you will never get any where else! The feel good is guaranteed ! All extra hands and hearts wanted!

5 year old's "Yes" day in Billings.

We're from northeastern Wyoming, and have absolutely nothing fun for kiddos within 2 hours. Billings, or Casper, WY is the closest place with activities. Our 5 year old girl is in need of a day where she can do whatever she wants.

While I frequent Billings, I've rarely experienced the city. What are the best arcades, water parks, movie theaters, toy stores, etc...?

Pretend it's the best day of your childhood, and you could do whatever you want in Billings..

Thank you in advance!

Just a quick reminder since I so graciously received one of these this morning, these types of text messages are FAKE - These are Smishing Scams and the FBI is aware of them, you can file a complaint on the MT Website where you pay other State bills.

Couple of things here to reiterate:
Country code is from the Philippines - Scam
Court System sending a text and not a physical letter - Scam
Not a .Gov website - Scam
Court System acting fast - Scam
No previous texts about this “Final Notice” - Scam

Hi! does anyone like kpop?

I was a bit nervous to post this one, or really anything. but lately I've been looking into kpop dance covers, I'm not the biggest kpop fan but I do enjoy some songs and mainly choreograph, this is more of a fun thing, maybe to make friends and get out of the house, but I've decided maybe to come on here and maybe see if anyone would be open to start doing kpop dance covers? maybe we could even record it, make our own videos, and even make outfits together as a group! I do have other interests though, if anyone is open to them or to just be friends! Please people at least in the age range of 18 and up!

Mail-in Ballots

We received our ballots today. Wondering if the marked out bar code has any significance.

Shout out to both targets for having a pretty clean and effective collab drop.

My only gripes are the 4 items per person limit.

The same 4-5 guys hit both drops and hardly any REAL fans got the items they wanted.

They were blatantly talking about scalping the items in line.

If your son or daughter (or even you) weren’t able to get any items you wanted. It’s because these 4-5 losers.

Western Emporium becoming Tippy cow

Had breakfast and was informed that the Emporium is closing this Wednesday and will open as Tippy Cow on Friday.

The staff just found out and are being let go since Tippy Cow has its own staff. It will be sad seeing these guys close. The staff there were always great and friendly.

I wish them all the luck on their new adventures.

25NB looking for some nerdy friends and maybe bandmates?

hellooo, i have been meaning to post this for months but i don't go onto reddit very often and would forget my own name if people didn't say it to me every day LMAO.

i'm a born and raised billings resident but don't have many friends, i'd love to reach out and make some more since i really only talk to my partner haha. if there's any fellow dnd players, crocheter/knitters, or peeps in the local scene in the same boat i'd love to chat! i do attend board game nights at dragon egg games on saturdays (when i have the brain power for it).

as for bandmates, i do know a couple people in the local music scene but i'd love some more people to go to local shows with and maybe some people to even start a band with? i listen to all kinds of music and sing, play guitar, piano, and a couple others from when i was a youngin. just spitballin here, but thought i may as well put a foot in the door even if it is online lmao!

Legionnaires’ disease at the Howard Johnson hotel in Billings

Riverstone Health (our public health department) has been tracking this disease since March 16th.

According to this article in the Billings Gazette, the majority of water samples from the hotel in APRIL still tested positive for the Legionella bacteria.

Both Riverstone Health and the hotel have known about this for nearly TWO MONTHS and kept it under wraps while "remediation efforts were taking longer than originally expected".

Now they are notifying current and future guests, but Riverstone noted that "recent guests were not being clearly informed to make the best choice for their health conditions".

So how many travelers got sick and didn't know why? HAS THE HOTEL NOTIFYING ALL OF THE PAST GUESTS FROM THE LAST TWO MONTHS??

The Gazette also noted that an outbreak of Legionnaires in two New York City buildings led to seven deaths last year.

*edit - broke up the solid wall of text

25M trying the terrifying experience known as ‘making friends as an adult.’ Into gaming, movies, D&D/tabletop stuff, and generally being a nerd. Most of my social life has existed through Discord headsets for years, so I’m trying to actually meet people in Billings. Big fan of co-op games, survival games, Minecraft, chaotic conversations at 1 AM, and people who send memes instead of normal communication. Looking for friends to game with, hang out with, go to events with, or honestly just talk to. Comment or DM if you wanna chat.

Hey all I'm a RN thinking of taking a three month contract in Billings. I'm a rock climber and she's an artist who does a lot of landscape paintings.

We're a gay couple and she is Black. She's actually no stranger to living in super white rural areas but that was New England. We don't need a ton of friends or anything. As long as we can meet a few fun accepting outdoorsy people to climb and hike with we'll be okay.

Advice for us? Thoughts?

Trades apprenticeship

Howdy, I'm in my early 20s, just wondering if there are any local places hiring entry level plumber, electrician, etc, tried looking on Glassdoor and indeed and only found like 2 for low voltage electrician.

For dinner, Black Canyon Bistro vs Carbon County Steakhouse. Thoughts? I’ve never been to either. They are used to nice places but ok w anything. I just want to make a good impression. wondering about vobe, food, crowd, service. Would be for a Friday night. Thanks!
