Hi everyone, this Friday my gf and I are going to Beacon for a day. I would love some recommendations for places to eat that offer gluten free options and activities to do.

Dyke Country Comedy Tour!
Hiiii, I’m Kate! I’m a Brooklyn comic hitting the road with my good pal Lee Robinson to do some gay comedy in the Northeast. Our first stop is Kingston on 5/21. Would love to see you at Unicorn Bar if watching two dykes do some very silly standup sounds fun to you! And there’s an open mic after the show so we can all do standup and become best friends and live happily ever after 🥹❤️ See you there!
Talkin’ beer. Best spots, growler fill ups?
Where do people do to get cheap tap beer, is there at least one place in town that will hook you up? I was also wondering if any breweries do the “growler fill day” where you get a bit of a deal on filling up?
Between the $9 pints and the jiggle I’ve put on in my midsection, I’ve been pretty close to cutting out drinking at restaurants and bars entirely!
Local hikes for someone recovering from injury?
Can anyone recommend a solid but not-too-strenuous (like im not trying to walk straight up a mountain from the trailhead) trail to get started with? I've been hiking around Harriman, Sterling, and Ringwood for 40 years, but I'm newish to this part of HV and not familiar with the trails, and concerned about my ability level; I was side-lined by an injury for about a year and a half and am finally starting to get back to regular activities, but being stuck sedentary for so long cost me all my muscle mass and stamina, not to mention a 30lb weight-gain.
I've done the Madam Brett/Dennings walk a few times and its lovely, but I'm ready to have my life back and get on an actual woods-trail. Sterling is my fallback since its easy and I'm pretty familiar, but I'd rather do something new and explore this area. Thank you in advance!
ETA: ideally something that'll take a few hours, like 5-7 miles. I'm ready to push myself a little on distance
Writers Group
Hi there! I'm new to the area (34F) and looking for a writing community. Before COVID I had a small – but lovely – writers group with a few work colleagues. Since then, I've struggled to find a structured, in-person community to share and critique work.
- Howland Public Library seems to have a writing group every other Tuesday. However, it sounds more like a space write with other rather than share work?
- Willow Bookshop just kicked off a writers group on the first Thursday of every month. I'm not sure what it looks like but I'm excited to find out.
- Workshops seem like a great idea. So many of them are online, which isn't a dealbreaker. But I'm curious if anyone has taken in-person workshops in the HV that they would recommend?
- Continued Education Classes sound perfect for engaging in a structured experience. Google hasn't turned up much, so please let me know if anyone you know has tried this route.
I write fiction – literary fiction, romance, horror, fantasy, etc. Primarily I struggle with accountability and would love to find local community along the way. If anyone knows an existing writers group or has a desire to form one, let me know!
