Wax for old Jacket
Hello Guys,
I recently bought a vintage wax jacket and I was told, that it is not possible to rewax it with the new wax.
I wanted to ask if this is true, and where I could find the old wax.
Thank you in advance

Yesterday, I waxed my Barbour unlined Durham jacket for the first time. For this, I used the lightweight 4oz wax bar, which to my knowledge is no longer available through regular retail channels (my example, purchased online in the Netherlands, was almost certainly old stock).
I hadn’t expected waxing to be such a tricky job. Unlike the regular Barbour wax, this one is applied cold using the bar. The challenge is to spread it completely evenly, which is difficult because the bar doesn’t spread smoothly. After that, you heat the applied “layer” (which at first is more like loose clumps and streaks, see last photo), and only then does it start to spread evenly... though only if you keep pushing and rubbing like a maniac.
Long story short: with the help of an extra pair of hands holding the hairdryer - so I had one hand free to pull the thin fabric taut while spreading (which is also trickier than with a heavier fabric) - I ended up quite satisfied with the final result.
Hello guys,
Does someone got more information about this jacket?
Got it from a vintage place and i would like to know if someone can confirm from which year this jacket is?
Im having trouble finding more info about this beige/yellow lining
Jacket is SMU so its probably the tissue that was left over
180/77kg chest size is 99cm.
At least in the US. I'd say this is about the minimum price I'd start really considering these at...
Is this normal to receive it back like this from the Barbour clean and repair service? Still has dog hair on the inside from the previous owner even (i bought second hand!)
I wasnt expecting it to look perfect obv but it does smell quite a lot and is hairy and the corduroy collar is kinda gross still ...at £50 i am surprised - has anyone else had a similar experience with the UK service? Thanks
Used the barbour wax to do it,
Will leave it drying for 24/36h, do you think thise wrinkles will be less visible once dried ?
I hesitated to use the nikwax first but people here told me to go straight to the waxing 🫡
I have had the pleasure of breathing new life into this beautiful vintage Solway Zipper complete with its original belt, hood and pile liner
Hello, i've tried sitting in the sun, walking outside for hours on windy sunny days, wearing the jacket whenever i could outside, etc, but the smell of the jacket is still there and it's embarrassing because I ride subway (im in NYC) and especially when it's crowded I feel like i'm the culprit of the bad smell. I bought it in January. I don't think it's the smell of wax, because when I waxed my other jacket, it doesn't have this smell.
How do you get rid of the smell on the new waxed jacket?
Thanks
Just purchased a Levi’s x Barbour Denim Bedale from Vinted for £170. I have a suspicion it may be too good to be true, did some googling and saw that there are some fakes on the market - found this on DH Gate: https://www.dhgate.com/product/bb-collaboration-denim-jacket-midlength-260205/1095594602.html?dspm=wapen.waptoapp.top1icdetail.1.wDTwwOoUUUCMC7peGlXZ&resource\_id=1095594602&f=bm%7Caff%7Cmy%7C1122861%7C114efe2b4fc8a04b114efe2b4fc8a04c%7C&f=bm%7Caff%7Cyfaf%7C2596172%7C2596172\_2601910\_997327%7CS697f9650e4b05a4aaa595b02%7C
Can anyone more clued up than me tell from the listing photos if it is the real deal or a replica? Or what to look for if the listing is real but the item sent is a fake?
Thank you in advance.
I rewaxed this Beaufort I've had for about a month. I've never had a waxed jacket or Barbour before so it was a little daunting, but all of the advice in this sub made me feel that I could confidently do it. I got it second hand so it looked gorgeous prior to the rewaxing with the way its patina showed, but it was not weatherproof at all. How did I do?
Hello guys,
Jut got a wonderful navy Digby jacket, but it is smelling like old vintage shop,
I like to smell good so its hard for me,
Ive seen many different info about that, i let the jacket all night long in my garden in close to 0 temperature but the smell is still here,
What’s your go to in term on smell like that?
Saw a good online deal for a secondhand Border size 34. Does anybody know how the jacket fits around the hips compared to a Beaufort in the same size?
The Beaufort I ordered recently in size 34 was a little bit tight at the hips so if the Border is tighter it won't fit.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.
It was $38 at a local thrifting emporium, and it fits perfectly! My boyfriend is very jealous.
Fortunate enough to pick between the modified Patchwork or the classic olive.
Which one should I keep? I can’t decide which I like more!
Am I bonkers considering this? I have many Barbours and don't need more....
Is it common for those to be made in New Zealand?
Hi everyone, I’ll be in the Birmingham city Centre for today and need to buy the wax. I already tried selfridges and a couple of other places but couldn’t find it. ChatGPT is also throwing out rubbish.
Does anyone know a place in the Centre where I could buy the wax? I’ll be leaving Birmingham this night.
Hello guys,
Just got a Black Ashby in a very good condition but cotton seems very dry (like if all waxed would have been removed from it)
Im wondering if previous owner didnt put it to the machine washer.
After checking a bit i decided to buy some NikWax to get the cotton impregnated first and then use the barbour wax when this process will be finished for the jacket to be totally weatherproof and to get a nice shine.
Can i get some feedback from people that did rhe same?
Any advice for this process?
Thanks 😊
