A waxed unlined Durham (after and before)

Yesterday, I waxed my Barbour unlined Durham jacket for the first time. For this, I used the lightweight 4oz wax bar, which to my knowledge is no longer available through regular retail channels (my example, purchased online in the Netherlands, was almost certainly old stock).

I hadn’t expected waxing to be such a tricky job. Unlike the regular Barbour wax, this one is applied cold using the bar. The challenge is to spread it completely evenly, which is difficult because the bar doesn’t spread smoothly. After that, you heat the applied “layer” (which at first is more like loose clumps and streaks, see last photo), and only then does it start to spread evenly... though only if you keep pushing and rubbing like a maniac.

Long story short: with the help of an extra pair of hands holding the hairdryer - so I had one hand free to pull the thin fabric taut while spreading (which is also trickier than with a heavier fabric) - I ended up quite satisfied with the final result.
