How Conservative is Greenville?

Hey all,

We currently live in SC and are considering moving to the Greenville area from the Fort Mill (south of Charlotte area).

We are generally pretty moderate people. Lean right on economic policy issues, but tend to be a little more liberal on social issues. I've voted for republicans and I've voted for democrats... true moderate.

We really value diversity of perspective and balance. How "purple" is the Greenville area? We like the city proper and think it's also the prettiest part of the entire state.

Also if the area does lean right, is it becoming more balanced with time?

Thanks!

Where should I move to in South Carolina?

Hello! I recently accepted a job in Awendaw, and my partner has gotten a job in Myrtle Beach. We're trying to determine a good "middle ground" town to move to.

Our budget is $1500/month rent. We're interested in culture & history, queer community, and natural areas to hike & fish in.

Right now, we're looking at Georgetown and Murrell's Inlet. I really like the affordability and culture of Georgetown, but the crime stats have me wary. Meanwhile, Murrell's Inlet seems to have more natural areas and is safer, but seems less culturally interesting and more expensive.

I'd really love to hear from South Carolinians about what the towns are actually like to live in, and if there's any other towns we should look into.

Thank you!

What makes a good South Carolina hash?

I write about South Carolina barbecue, and hash is one of those things that sparks some debate because everybody seems to have a different definition of “right.”

Some people want it thick and stringy. Some want it ground. Some like a little liver in there, some absolutely do not. Then you’ve got mustard-leaning hash, red hash, gray hash, onion-heavy hash, hash that’s mostly beef, hash that’s all pork.

Everyone seems to agree the best hash is the one you grew up with it. So I’m curious: what makes hash good to you?

Texture? Meatiness? Spice? Liver or no liver? A certain region? A certain restaurant? The one your family always bought?

And who has your favorite hash in South Carolina?

Do you know anybody who has gotten a ticket for using their phone while driving?

I still see a lot of people using their phones in the car. I've had to swerve out of the way of a few of them.

Can we leave the beauty of South Carolina alone, instead of building it up beyond our infrastructure?

Looking for opinions of a few towns in southern SC

I am moving from Colorado to South Carolina this summer. We are looking for a town that has several restaurant options, and i can feel safe walking down the street as a girl in my mid 20s. I understand that may be a big request, but I am not trying to move to the ghetto, we made that mistake when we first moved to Denver lol. I was thinking somewhere within an hour of the coast, maybe Beaufort or Ridgeland area. I definitely am tired of the city life and ready for a much slower pace, BUT i still need all my shopping and food options within a 20 minute drive. Please give me any advice on any areas surrounding Beaufort, Ridgeland, or Yemassee.

Transportation options for disabled

Y'all, can you please list any other options for transportation?

I'm out of ideas. I didn't realize how small Easely is.

I've looked into Senior Solutions, and a service called DART. both are limited for job trips.

Thanks.

Anyone know who’s hiring ASAP in Columbia?

Hey everyone,

I’m helping someone find work in the Columbia area and we’re looking for places hiring ASAP.

He has experience as an electrician helper and working around tools, equipment, and industrial environments. He’s dependable, shows up, and is ready to start immediately.

Open to:

construction helper

warehouse / material handler

landscaping

general labor

He’s also open to learning a trade or starting as a paid apprentice (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.).

He has reliable transportation and can get to work consistently. Also has an SC Works hiring voucher.

Looking for places where he can apply directly or walk in and talk to someone.

If you know any companies, contractors, or jobs that are hiring right now, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks!
