To those of asian appearance, where is the most friendly country you've been to?

I myself am south east asian and on the tanner side and my experience in china has been very friendly and have noticed most chinese areas enjoy seeing foreigners exploring their area (respectfully of course), have you guys experienced this in other countries?

What is it like to be middle class in China??

Tell me about the life of an average middle class Chinese person! How many hours do you work per week? What is your commute like? Is food and rent affordable? Do most families rent or own? Do you feel like you are struggling to get by or are you relaxed with finances? What is the healthcare system like for you? Do you use daycare?

为什么现在电动汽车上普遍采用水蓝色的灯? Why are aqua lights prevalent on EVs now?

我看到的大多数中国新车都在车身各处装配了这种水蓝色的灯。水蓝色是从什么时候开始成为电动汽车的普遍标志的?

Most new Chinese cars I'm seeing are now outfitting these aqua lights all over their cars. When did the color aqua become ubiquitous with EVs?

Are most of the shopping malls and supermarkets having robots to serve you in China these days?

Is non biological laundry detergent a thing in China?

I can’t seem to find a non biological laundry detergent in GZ. All the supermarket detergents have enzymes added.

For context in the UK you can get biological detergents (with added enzymes to break down protein etc.) and non-biological detergents (no enzymes added, relies purely on ‘soap’ for cleansing).

I have sensitive skin and keep coming up in hives from my clothing, when in China. I noticed even the ‘sensitive skin’ laundry liquids are biological. We literally went to 3 different malls with international sections, couldn’t find any. Even laundry liquids designed for kids and babies contain enzymes. My Chinese SO is convinced that non biological detergents don’t exist in China.

Is she right? Do they exist?

Otherwise will have to order online, pay 200RMB plus to a specialist importer, which is ridiculous.

Gift giving

I recently made a friend in my apartment, who is Chinese. She has been teaching me Mandarin in exchange for me teaching her French, and we've grown very close. I'd like to knit a sweater for her inscribe something on the tag. I was thinking of using a Chinese saying, but I'm not sure if any would be appropriate:

  1. 富丽堂皇( Prosperous and beautiful; To have the best of good fortune.)

  2. 所向无前 (No obstacle in any direction; To be able to conquer in any direction. Invincible against all opponents. An irresistible force.)

3.祝你长命百岁 (May you live a long and healthy life)

i was thinking of adding one of these as a wish to the wearer. she has been facing some changes to her health that has been affecting her negatively recently, and i hope for the message to lift her spirits.

高山流水 ( High mountains and flowing water; A description of beautiful music and by analogy a deep friendship.) i was thinking of this one as a show of our friendship.

are any of these better than the other or should I omit the whole idea?

Business degree in English in Shanghai or Shenzhen – how intense is the workload for international students?

I’m considering applying for a Business bachelor’s degree taught in English in universities located in Shanghai or Shenzhen, ideally with a scholarship.

My situation is a bit different from the typical full-time student because I currently run a small export business, so I won’t be able to dedicate 100% of my time only to university.

I’ve heard mixed opinions: some people say Chinese universities are very strict academically, while others say that for international students (especially in English-taught business programs) the workload can be manageable.

What I’m trying to understand is how realistic it is to balance studies + a small online business.

For students who studied (or are studying) business in English in Shanghai or Shenzhen:

• How heavy is the academic workload actually?

• Is attendance mandatory and strictly controlled?

• How many hours per week do you realistically spend studying?

• Are deadlines and exams very demanding?

• From 1–10, how strict is the academic pressure?

• Is it possible to have time for personal projects or a small business?

• Does having a scholarship make academic expectations stricter?

I’m not looking for an “easy” degree, just trying to understand how flexible or demanding these programs are in reality for international students.

Honest experiences would really help.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Hi i tried to come up with my own chinese name and im stuck between these three

  1. 藍予然
  2. 藍昀然
  3. 蓝瑜婉

i want something thats slightly androgynous but not too masculine leaning, and something that sounds poetic/thoughtful. currently i'm leaning to number 1, but i'm open to other suggestions that might make it even better. thank you!

What are other examples of TCM that were proven to be effective by modern science, other than Artemisinin?

The only example I have found is artemisinin. I have seen claims that other TCM treatments have been validated by modern science, what are some examples?

Chinese-only Xiaomi Home Robot ?

Hi, I have a met a Chinese person not long ago and we talked about many things including robotics. He told me in China Xiaomi had a odd looking robot for home that is able to fill glasses with waters and moving around with them, and that it is great for elderly people.

I tried to check out what this robot was and how it looks like but I have not been successful at all. Does it even exist ? Can you guys share a picture of it ? I am genuinely curious 😄
