My Franken-Akorn saga
So the saga begins about 10 years ago when I bought my first Akorn. It was a beautiful thing and over time I learned how to control the temp and master long slow cooks. All was good.
Fast forward 7 or so years and New England weather took its toll and the ash pan and bottom of the main body began to rust out. Time for a replacement.
I found a deal on the AutoKamado and it sounded perfect so I bought one. Seemed good but the learning curve was steep. No matter what I couldn't get it to maintain a constant temp. Then the temp sensor shit the bed. So I bought a replacement and installed it. Still wildly inconsistent temps, the electronics were just not good. At some point I just got disgusted and ordered a replacement ash pan from char griller installed the dome from my old Akorn and just used it like a standard Akorn. Perfect for the last couple of years.
Along comes ChefsTemp and I see the possibility of having an actual working "AutoKamado". After a little effort (drilling through the original AutoKamado dome, trimming the Brrezo fan mounting bracket with a dremel and gutting the AutoKamado fan housing) I was able to install the control unit and take advantage of the fan ductwork to install the Breezo fan.
Finally, an AutoKamado that actually delivers on the promise. This thing rocks. Temperature control is great. Hopefully this continues to deliver. I'm really looking forward to some long slow cooks this summer.
