r/650GS

Hey Community, first post here.
My wife dropped her 1996 f650 funduro a couple of weeks ago and broke the clutch lever.
She managed to ride home without a problem with me following, and a couple of days later I swapped out the broken lever. Easy 5 minute job. Unscrew, cable out, cable in, screw tight.
Since then, and maybe unrelated, the thing refuses to drive anywhere. Starting up is ok, sometimes you get something out of first gear - a few meters only at most - and then you sense the impending death!!
I’ve checked everything over that I can. Lubed clutch, choke and gas cables. The stands too.
Battery has 13,7 V.
I’m stuck!! No idea what’s going on. Fuel system has been cleaned by our workshop 3 times in 2 years. And the tank is freshly full.
Thanks for reading!!
Dakar mods before long distance
I’m planning a long distance mixed environments overland trip in Aug on my F650GS I just picked up - 23k miles, roadworthy.
It just needs a fork seal, and the speedo/tacho are not working (common apparently, lots of online fix suggestions but fix maybe not necessary as have iPhone GPS speed).
It has full crash bars (bottom not fitted in pic), recent brake work, well looked after.
Should I fit the front mudguard?
Should I replace plastic bark busters with stronger metal ones to protect levers if I dump it in the middle of Africa?
Any other essential mods or prep before departure?
TIA
Remove front mudguard?
Why do some people remove the front mudguard?
