Update: I listened to Madonna’s debut album after your recommendations

I made a post yesterday asking where to start with Madonna, and a lot of you told me to check out her debut album — so I did.

So I just listened to Madonna’s debut album for the first time, and I’m kinda obsessed with how intentional it feels. It’s very early 80s — lots of synths, drum machines, and bright production — but it still sounds fresh instead of dated. What really surprised me is how you can already hear her identity forming. The mix of playful confidence, a little vulnerability, and simple but effective lyrics makes it feel way more personal than I expected. It’s not trying to be overly deep, but the emotions are still there, and the instrumentation (especially the guitars + synths) really brings that out.

Track by track thoughts:

  1. Lucky Star —

8.5/10

Super catchy opener. The lyrics are simple and all about admiration/crush energy, but it works because it’s so genuine. The sparkly synths + subtle guitar make it feel bright and dreamy.

  1. Borderline — 10/10⭐️

I did NOT expect this. The lyrics are actually kinda emotional — about being treated badly in love but still holding on. It’s so pretty but also a little sad. The soft synths and gentle guitar really match that vulnerable feeling.

  1. Burning Up — 10/10⭐️⭐️

OMGG I’m obsessed. The lyrics are way more intense and desperate in a love kinda way, which makes it stand out. The stronger guitar gives it that attitude and edge, like she’s not holding back at all.

  1. I Know It — 7/10

Lowkey chill. The lyrics feel more reflective, like realizing something about a relationship. Not my favorite, but it fits the album’s vibe. The instrumental is softer and more laid-back.

  1. Holiday — 8/10

It’s good but idk why it gives me Christmas vibes 😭 but I lowkey love it. The lyrics are super simple — just about taking a break and celebrating life — but that’s what makes it so universal. Bright synths and little guitar touches make it feel warm.

  1. Think of Me — 9/10

This one surprised me. The lyrics have a bit of attitude, like “you’ll regret it when I’m gone,” but it’s still fun. The bouncy beat and playful synths balance that message really well.

  1. Physical Attraction — 10/10⭐️⭐️

OMFGGG. Kinda underrated?? The lyrics are more about desire and connection, and it feels a bit more mature than the others. The instrumental is smoother and more minimal, with synths and bass creating that hypnotic vibe.

  1. Everybody — 10/10⭐️

This feels like her saying “okay I’m Madonna, this is how I’m gonna get y’all” 😭 The lyrics are super simple and repetitive, but that’s what makes it iconic — it’s all about bringing people together. The beat is raw, energetic, and feels like the start of everything.

Overall, such a strong debut. The lyrics aren’t super complex, but they’re honest and match the vibe perfectly. Combined with the synth-heavy production and touches of guitar, it creates this really fun but still slightly emotional listening experience.

Also I started watching some of the music videos after listening, and they honestly add so much to the songs. You can already see her vision and personality coming through visually too — like she’s not just making music, she’s a visual artist as well. It makes the whole era feel even more iconic. Definitely gonna keep watching more.

Excited to listen to Like a Virgin!✨

Definitely continuing this Madonna era.

Saw Madonna at Coachella for the first time—where should I start with her albums?

I saw Madonna perform at Coachella yesterday and I’m honestly still thinking about it. The energy, the confidence, the way she controls the whole stage… I didn’t expect to be this impressed. It really felt like I was watching a true icon.

The only song I really knew before this was Like a Prayer (mostly because it was trending on TikTok at one point), but hearing it live hit completely different. Now I feel like I’ve been missing out on her music.

I want to properly get into her discography, but she has so many albums that I don’t even know where to begin. I’m open to anything—something iconic, something emotional, or just a really solid album experience.

If you had to recommend ONE album to start with, what would it be and why?

(For context, I usually listen to Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Lana Del Rey, Ariana grande, lady gaga, tame impala and so on! —so I love strong production and a good vibe.)

First time building my survival house 🏡

I just tried for the first time to build my first survival house and I don’t know how to feel about that, but it looks good isn’t it?

Still need to furnish and put all the doors!
