how RBC ruined my 900 credit score over 200 dollars, and i am leaving after 25 years with them

I have an RBC Visa Platinum card that I barely use. I had to use it a couple of times over the past few months and honestly just forgot about it — my fault. As a result, I missed two payments on my February and March statements, totaling about $200 give or take. I realized the mistake and paid the balance in full in April, including the interest, before the next statement.

Then I got a notice from TransUnion saying my credit score dropped from 900 to 755 because RBC reported the missed payments. I’ve had a 900 (full)score for the past 3 years and 800+ for more than 10 years, so this was a pretty brutal hit over a $200 mistake that I already corrected.

I tried calling RBC’s credit department to fix the issue, and the experience was awful. The first two agents went to absurd lengths with security verification — one even asked me about the last payment on a business credit card I haven’t used since 2020. After all that, both of them refused to help because of “inaccurate information.” Eventually, I got through to a third agent, who told me I have a “habit” of missing payments, citing this one occurrence in 2024 and another in 2023.

Before anyone says I deserved this because I did miss the payments — yes, I know that. But I’ve been with RBC since 2002. I have multiple accounts with them: chequeings, savings, business chequing, business credit card, line of credit, HELOC, multiple credit cards, multiple investment accounts, and I’m currently in the process of transferring another mortgage to them.- and I was told I have a "habit" of missing payments, despite my 900 credit score.

What really frustrates me is not just the late-payment reporting over 200 dollars. It’s that I couldn’t even get anyone on the phone who seemed willing to acknowledge the problem or work toward a resolution. Being told I have a “habit” of missing payments was the final insult.

Bye, RBC.I am transferring my accounts out this year.
