Feeling conflicted about septoplasty
I have a septoplasty scheduled next month and I’m feeling very conflicted about it.
I saw an ENT, who specializes in sleep apnea, a few months ago to talk about why I continue to feel tired despite regular CPAP usage. He examined me and noted my septum was significantly deviated. He recommended I see one of his colleagues who specializes in surgery.
When I saw the specialist, he mentioned how I had significant nasal collapse with a deviated septum. Here’s the crazy thing though: my whole life I’ve felt completely fine. I never have issues breathing through my nose. The doctor mentioned the goal would be to fix my septum so that I’d have better air flow to potentially improve the quality of my CPAP treatment.
I’m starting to get cold feet about the procedure. Many of the stories I’ve read on Reddit are filled with horrors about recovery and complications. I think the biggest thing I’m worried about is undergoing a surgical procedure that may not lead to an appreciable difference in how I feel.
