Mos Maiorem: should we honor war veterans in the same way Romans did ?

Romans were known for their will to follow the path of their glorious ancestors.

About an interactive history maps of WWII Normandy campaign with day by day operations: I started with the 101st Airborne Division. Which division should I add next ? the 82nd ?

I started with the 101st division because it's one of the most known (due to Band of Brothers and other movies). But then what's the most known ? Ox and Bucks Ligh Infantry ? 4th Infantry ?

I recently visited Normandy WW2 memorials: I was able to reflect on all those souls lost during the campaign but something was missing out there.

A few months ago, I stood on the ground in Normandy. It was the most emotional trip of my life. But walking those beaches and all the places of interest, I realized how difficult it was to trace back what happened, almost 82 years ago.

In Ancient Rome, people believed that by remembering the virtues and sacrifices of those before them, they kept the flame of civilization alive. They called that the Mos Maiorum, the way of the ancestors.

I decided to start the Pridianum project (Roman military administration used to report troops status in a report named pridianum) to revive that tradition. I’ve spent the last few months reading reference books on detailed military operations , turning After Action Reports and General Orders into a structure information. I decided to turn linear narration of events into goal based events so that the information could be more easily visualized on an interactive map. Using this top to bottom approach, readers would not feel overwhelmed with too much details about the operations. At least, more people could approach the topic without being experts.

I’d love for you to explore the map and let me know if it helps you see the Normandy campaign in a new light. It's a personal, non-commercial project born out of a desire to never forget.
