Hello!

I am currently helping my mother downsize including what to do with mountains of my great grandparents old silver.

I’m going through it all, I found this salt/spice caster which I think might be properly old?

Can anyone help with the hallmarks? I don’t know what I’m doing but from my best guess I see the lion passant, crowned leopard head, a capital B in a shield and a C with a mullet/star marking for the maker.

I will note that I am aware that the lid is a later (likely Tudor?) addition married to the potentially-Elizabethan base?

Is that correct? Does that date this to 1579 or 1599?
