Hi! I’m a uni student from Mexico and this year I want to do my first J‑1 Work and Travel in the US.

I’ve been reading so many different things about employers that I honestly don’t know what to believe anymore. Some people say their place was amazing, but then others say the housing was terrible, they barely got any hours, or the manager was a nightmare.

What matters most to me is:

• getting enough hours to actually work,

• having at least decent housing,

• and a work environment that isn’t toxic.

If anyone has done a J‑1 recently, could you recommend employers/programs and cities in the US where you had a good experience?

And if there are any employers or places you would NOT choose again, that’s also super helpful to know so I can avoid them.

I’d really appreciate any honest advice or stories. Thank you so much 🙏

Hola! Soy estudiante de uni en México y este año quiero hacer mi primer J1 Work and Travel a Estados Unidos.

He estado leyendo muchas cosas diferentes sobre employers y ya no sé qué creer: algunos dicen que el lugar es increíble, pero luego otros cuentan que el housing es pésimo, que casi no les dan horas o que el manager es un desastre.

Lo que más me importa es:

• tener horas suficientes para de verdad trabajar,

• que el housing sea al menos decente,

• y que el ambiente de trabajo no sea tóxico.

Si alguien ya hizo J1 recientemente, ¿podría recomendar employers/programas y ciudades en USA donde hayan tenido buena experiencia?

Y si hay algún employer o lugar que NO volverían a elegir, también me sirve mucho saberlo para evitarlo.

De verdad cualquier consejo o historia se agradece muchísimo
