Korea blacklists Thai workers from Isaan

TLDR; Korea blacklists Thai seasonal workers from Isaan provinces(Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Chaiyaphum, and Maha Sarakha) because significant number of Thai workers from these provinces absconded from their employers. People from those areas are not able to get the work permission until the end of 2026.

Many of them enter Korea as the agricultural or fishery worekrs but they seem to run away to work in the factories, restaruants, or prostitutes.

Seriously what is going on in Thailand? What's happening to Thai people.

While foreign tourists are having fun time in Thailand, I would like to know what's happening to the local people in Thailand.

I know Asian countries have suffered from low birthrate, but seeing Thailand among advanced economy countries in this chart hits different

Once a magnet for foreign English teachers, Korea sees E-2 visa applicants hit six-year low

[Article]Once a magnet for foreign English teachers, Korea sees E-2 visa applicants hit six-year low

  • The rise of online tools powered by AI that let users learn independently has effectively eaten up demand for teachers from cram schools.
  • Younger people show less demand for English education — not because they are already good at it, but because many stop after achieving practical goals, such as standardized test scores like the Toeic, and are reluctant to invest further time and resources.” +Less emphasis on having to be taught by foreigners
  • Fewer students that lead many cramschools to close.
  • Weaker purchasing power when pay is the below the average salary of Koreans. You can still live a well-off life with TEFL salary in other countries. +weaker currency
  • Still supply is more than demand, so the industry in Korea cares less.

Police arrested two Thai nationals for allegedly making guns and using them to hunt pigeons “to eat them," the Iksan Police Precinct said on Wednesday.

The pair, who are currently in the custody of immigration authorities after it was determined that they were in Korea illegally, face charges of violating the Act on the Safety Management of Guns, Swords, and Explosives and the Immigration Act, according to the police. The men are likely to be subject to deportation.

The duo is accused of using homemade air guns to capture pigeons in a bamboo grove in Yongan-myeon in Iksan, North Jeolla, on March 16.

Officers were dispatched after a report was made claiming to have heard gunshots. The pair fled upon spotting the police, abandoning their vehicle and air guns at the scene.

After identifying the suspects, the police tracked and arrested one of them at an apple orchard in Cheongsong County, North Gyeongsang, on March 27, and the other at a farm in Buyeo County, South Chungcheong, on April 21.

The men reportedly told police they “had hunted the pigeons to eat them.”
