Undecaying leaves in beta 1.7.3

Someone correct me if this was already known, I've looked a little through this subreddit and seen people say it is impossible to get sheared leaves to not decay without wood around them in beta 1.7.3 without mods. And I too thought that was impossible until I was thinking recently. I had my beta 1.6.6 world on beta 1.7.3 for a while before downgrading and had these leaves that turned gray. I decided to do some testing and see if they have magic properties, and they in fact do.

Steps to get the undecaying leaves:

  1. Open a world in beta 1.7.3 and shear however many leaves you want

  2. Get rid of your shears by burning them (this is to prevent the game from crashing if you have them in a chest or your inventory when you are in 1.6.6)

3.Place the leaves in beta 1.6.6. They will not decay and won't you switch back either.

  1. Open the world back up in 1.7.3 and enjoy your leafy builds without having to put logs everywhere.

Drawbacks:

  1. If you use pistons frequently you may not want to do this since it will remove your pistons. But if you don't, this is a good and the only way as far as i know to get leaves that won't decay in beta. And placeable, undecaying leaves in beta 1.6 is nice.

  2. You have to be very precise about the way you place your leaves or they will decay when you break one. So make sure you know where you want your leaves or you'll have to do the whole thing over again. But for small bushes and stuff this isn't that big of an issue.

Sorry if this post is a little long for such a generally useless glitch, I just got excited feeling I discovered something. Screenshot 1 shows the leaves in beta 1.6.6, and screenshot 2 is them in 1.7.3. I found it a little interesting that they turn gray but still have a name. Okay I'm gonna stop rambling about minecraft leaves, thanks for reading.
